A 19thC ironstone Wolfe-Montcalm Monument Quebec Canada scenes plate from the 1880s. This rustic 7-3/4" salad size plate is from a series of plates made for the Canadian market depicting various scenes. It was made by the Brittania Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland for Francis T. Thomas of Quebec c1880 as part of a commissioned series of Quebec scenes. It has a view of the Quebec City monument, text in two languages and a border of leaves and beavers. It is in very good condition with no cracks, damage or repairs other than a 1/4" front rim chip and some browning and crazing from heat. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. This antique serving piece is truly superb, from the immaculately detailed gilded butterfly basket with a swing handle to the original cranberry glass bowl with a polished base. The three feet have fine hand engraving and most unusually each of the seven butterflies has the old English diamond registry mark incorporated into the design, not added or stamped on later. Although unsigned this is a work of superb craftsmanship and the registry number dates the design to 1869. It measures 4-1/2" across and it stands 5-3/4" tall with the handle upright. An antique Art Nouveau period Scottish sterling silver two piece belt buckle, depicting the Green Man, a well known creature from ancient United Kingdom mythology. He is associated with birth and re-birth, and the coming of spring. Wide silver buckles of this size - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8" - in solid silver, silver plate or gold were often presented to a young graduate nurses by their families or by consultants at the hospital they were then working as graduate nurses, as their badge was the wide black belt of their nursing uniform. One of my nurse friends who trained in the UK says this practice was still usual into the 1950s. This buckle is fully hallmarked for Glasgow, Scotland 1897-8 and it has the maker's mark for (possibly) James Forest. An early Victorian 18k Socrates carnelian intaglio signet ring. This antique size 7-3/4 or 7.75 rose gold mid-19th century ring is completely hand made. It and it features a deeply carved carnelian intaglio portrait of Socrates. It is simply executed but stylish with subtle design flourishes. It measures 7/8 x 5/8" across the bezel-set intaglio gem stone. It has a full set of stretched and now obscured hallmarks - it tests as 18K. Although the stone is a substantial size, this ring in the 18thC and 19thC worn on a gentleman's pinkie finger as a pinkie ring. In order to save gold some jewellers would stretch the shank to resize the ring rather than solder another section of gold to effect the sizing and that appears to be the case here. An attractive Victorian period 15K yellow gold genuine rubies and pearls ring circa 1880s. This dainty antique size 4-1/2 or size 4.5 ring features fine sculpting and a beaded edge, two 5 point by gauge genuine rubies and three genuine half pearls gem stones. A Scottish sterling silver banded agate sword and shield brooch pin dated 1863. Although a common form this example is one of the most ornate and best constructed we have seen. It measures 2-3/4 x 1", the silver is deeply and intricately tooled and the cut and polished banded agates are well matched and are gray (or grey), white and blue striped. The shield is mounted by wire pins through loops on the sword back and most unusual is a hand-etched British hallmark shield with the letter and number cyphers indicating a manufacturing date of Dec. 6, 1863. An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This was lit in the flame, carried to the cigar, and then extinguished and reinserted in its well to soak it for the next cigar. Each tweezer/clamp has a sliding collar to squeeze onto the wick, and this unusual item has the maker's mark for Hirons, Plante & Co. (c1878-1882) of Birmingham, England. This lighter is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than seven shallow dents on the body. A set for 12 mother of pearl handle silver plated fish knives and forks from the 1897-1900 era. This 24 piece set consists of the 7-7/8" fish knives and the 6-3/4" forks. Each piece has a mother of pearl handle with excellent lustre and green and pink flash. The ferrules are unmarked and nicely embossed (they may be silver - we haven't tested them and it wasn't required to mark small, light items). The silver plated fittings (knife blades and forks) have ornate and attractive hand engraving and they have the maker's mark for Harrison Fisher of Sheffield, England (established 1897, this mark in use from 1897-1900). We don't have a box for this set however they will be shipped in a long cloth flatware wrap with pouches for each piece. A Colossus or Lacy Spiral Burlington Glass clear EAPG water goblet from the 1880s. This 6-1/2" tall antique pressed glass item was made by the Burlington Glass Works of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (1874-97) (and possibly produced by other companies). It is a beautiful clear white with very crisp detail. A W.E. Welding Brantford Ontario 4 gallon eared stoneware crock with blue floral decoration 1873-94. This attractive, antique Canadian pottery crock measures 12" tall and 11-1/2" across, it has two ear handles and attractive blue tulips decoration with blue splash over the impressed Welding markings. Welding was in business with W.W. Belding in Brantford (1867-72) and went solo in 1873 after their factory burnt down in 1872. The glaze on this pickle or food storage crock is an attractive deep tan with minor dark kiln shadowing, the floral decoration is only slightly blistered and intact and the interior is intact. It is in very good condition with no damage or repairs other than a base chip to the left of the tulips and a tight, inconspicuous hairline on the backside top rim between the ear handles and a tight, slightly branched surface impact crack beside the decoration which doesn't penetrate to the interior. A 9K rose gold Edwardian engraved hinged bangle bracelet fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England 1911. This 1/4" wide hollow bangle features engraving on the front half which extends to the ends of the unengraved back side. It has a hinge, a box clasp and a safety chain. The colour is an intense rose gold and it has both 9 and 375 hallmarks along with an A.L.W.H maker's mark. It weighs 8.3 grams and is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there are three dents on the engraved front one of which has a crack to the gold (see images).
