An attractive Victorian period 15K yellow gold genuine rubies and pearls ring circa 1880s. This dainty antique size 4-1/2 or size 4.5 ring features fine sculpting and a beaded edge, two 5 point by gauge genuine rubies and three genuine half pearls gem stones. This lovely antique ring has a B&H maker's mark and the remnants of quite worn English hallmarks and it tests as 15 K. It has a brilliant intense yellow gold Roman or matte finish, which was popular at the time, as it gave the ring the appearance of 22K gold. The rubies appear a little washed out in the pictures, they are a deeper red in real life. An early Victorian 18k Socrates carnelian intaglio signet ring. This antique size 7-3/4 or 7.75 rose gold mid-19th century ring is completely hand made. It and it features a deeply carved carnelian intaglio portrait of Socrates. It is simply executed but stylish with subtle design flourishes. It measures 7/8 x 5/8" across the bezel-set intaglio gem stone. It has a full set of stretched and now obscured hallmarks - it tests as 18K. Although the stone is a substantial size, this ring in the 18thC and 19thC worn on a gentleman's pinkie finger as a pinkie ring. In order to save gold some jewellers would stretch the shank to resize the ring rather than solder another section of gold to effect the sizing and that appears to be the case here. It weighs 8.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, it does show wear and patination commensurate with age.

A 19thC 12K carved sardonyx Pericles cameo pendant on a 14K chain. This fine Victorian pendant features a finely carved high relief portrait of Pericles in sardonyx, with the face in white and the base on a translucent reddish brown base. The 5/8 x 1/2" (sans bale) pendant is unmarked and it tests as 12k; the later 15-3/8" chain has a springring clasp and it is stamped ECCO14K. A Victorian Aesthetic silver plated hot water pot by Reed & Barton 1876. This 9-1/4" tall pot is stamped with the Reed & Barton mark, the 2764 pattern number and the patent date of Feb. 1, 1876. It has fine floral high relief feet and floral bands plus hand tooling and a pebbled finish on the top panel. A genuine Chinese late 19th century oxblood glaze classic bulbous shape vase. This vase is 9-1/8" in height and features the lovely brownish red oxblood glaze over a greyish-white ceramic body. It has fairly thick glaze at the base, which shows some frit. It has allover crazing and the surface of the glaze has fine overall pinpoint pitting from firing as well. It is unmarked and it is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a small area on the upper rim where there is a dullness in the glaze and small shallow depression. (the rim glaze is mostly intact). The glaze at the bottom shows some chipping also, likely caused during removal from the kiln after firing. Some of these pieces were of lesser quality, as there was pressure to produce them to meet the export demand, even in the 19th century. Subsequently, there was less care in their production than in the finer quality 18th century pieces. That is not true of all 19th and early 20th century Chinese oxblood ware, but some pieces like this show that they were produced more quickly and with a little less care than earlier pieces produced for the wealthier in China and elsewhere. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. This antique serving piece is truly superb, from the immaculately detailed gilded butterfly basket with a swing handle to the original cranberry glass bowl with a polished base. The three feet have fine hand engraving and most unusually each of the seven butterflies has the old English diamond registry mark incorporated into the design, not added or stamped on later. Although unsigned this is a work of superb craftsmanship and the registry number dates the design to 1869. It measures 4-1/2" across and it stands 5-3/4" tall with the handle upright. A heavy sterling silver watch chain graduated bracelet circa 1880-1900. This late Victorian 8-1/4" bracelet is made of a piece of graduated watch chain (the links range from 5/16 to 7/16") with a non-rotating sterling swivel. Each link has an English lion silver mark and the swivel has an S.G maker's mark with a lion and k year stamp (probably 1884, possibly by Samuel Garside, a Birmingham silver chain maker). A 19th century Dutch red glass bracelet with a 14k clasp. This Victorian era 19th century 7-3/4" hand cut red glass bead four strand bracelet is complete with an unmarked but tested 14k yellow gold clasp. The beads have a rich red garnet colour and the 3/4" wide box clasp has three large faceted red glass beads. A sterling silver nutmeg grater circa 1890s. It may actually be older. This American antique 1-3/4" x 1-3/8" egg shaped sterling grater has the original interior gilt rasp and interior gilding. Nutmeg was an expensive imported spice when first introduced to Europe and to North America, and it became enormously popular as a condiment. A sterling silver nutmeg grater was a sign of prosperity, as well as indicating a great fondness for the spice, of which aficionados would grate to their own taste when sitting down to eat. Not easy to find them anymore. This antique example features fine ornate leaf hand engraving and a dedication saying Z.S.J. to M.M.J. 25th. Dec 1893. A fine Christmas gift indeed. It is stamped STERLING along the gilt inner rim, the gilding on the interior and rasp is a rich gold in colour and intact. A massive Japanese 19thC bronze jardiniere or plant holder with raised or bas-relief detail. This handsome antique signed Japanese bronze work stands 13-1/2" tall and it measures 11-1/2" across the opening. This is a large example of a classic bowl design, and it has a nice patination (appears somewhat lightened in our photographs to show detail). It features perching and flying birds and floral branches, a decorated collar with bat designs (a sign of luck and prosperity) and incised decoration. It has an applied signature planchet on the bottom, which has not yet been translated. It has some patina inside from use. This rustic 7-3/4" salad size plate is from a series of plates made for the Canadian market depicting various scenes. It was made by the Brittania Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland for Francis T. Thomas of Quebec c1880 as part of a commissioned series of Quebec scenes. It has a view of the Quebec City monument, text in two languages and a border of leaves and beavers. It is in very good condition with no cracks, damage or repairs other than a 1/4" front rim chip and some browning and crazing from heat. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. An antique 12k gold genuine rhodolite garnets and mine cut diamonds ring circa 1890 1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring has four genuine true red colour garnets surrounded by twenty genuine mine cut diamonds in a classic marquise shape. This Victorian period piece is unmarked, but has been tested and is confirmed to be 12 K gold. It measures just over 7/8" long and is 5/16" across the elegant marquise shaped setting and it weighs 3.0 grams. Rhodolite garnets most resembled rubies in colour, so were a desirable gem stone even in the 19thC. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This ring was a popular style at that time, sometimes all in diamonds, but mostly with a less expensive gemstone in the centre for contrast. A Georgian 12-1/8" sterling silver stuffing or dressing spoon circa 1809. This fine antique serving item is fully hallmarked for London, England 1809-10 and it is in the Fiddle pattern. Made by William Eley, William Fearn & William Chawner (registered 1808), one of the most notable families of English spoon makers. Examples with a largish bowl like this are great serving spoons for many occasions. This spoon weighs 142 grams and it has a family crest with a unicorn and the phrase "ORA ET LABORA" ("Pray and Work", the motto of St. Benedict). An authentic antique late Georgian period 15k ring with genuine pearls and natural and genuine emeralds circa 1820 1830. This beautiful size 4-1/2 or 4.5 yellow gold ring is unmarked and it tests as 15k, and it is most likely English in origin. It has a 2 mm. across natural emerald at the center and six small emeralds gem stones between the pearls, all in a flower shape arrangement. It also has pearls along the finely tooled shoulders and the grooved shank has appears never to have been sized or altered. There are naturally occurring colour variations in the pearls, but they are over-emphasized in the photo, less noticeable in real life (one pearl may be a replacement). This ring weighs 2.5 grams, it measures 5/16" across the flower head. A scarce and unique find, and a special wedding or engagement ring (would be a really fine birthday ring also!). A 1733 Augustus II Poland death commemoration medal with a 1782 girl's birth inscription pendant. The medal itself measures 1-11/16" across and it is made of silver. It was one of a few different designs minted in Poland honoring Augustus II (12 May 1670 – 1 February 1733) who was the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. There are very few of this design (we've found only two examples) and it features a portrait of Augustus on one side and an allegorical scene on the other. This medal has a loop soldered at the top and it was inscribed to honour the birth of Barbara Ann Williamson at Worcester (England) Nov. 24, 1782. This historical artifact weighs 28.9 grams and it is in fair condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the engraving, the added loop for wear as a pendant and some moderate wear and surface marks from 283 years of existence.
