A Birks sterling silver sauce boat with under tray dated 1946. The sauce boat measures 5" from the edge of the spout to the outer edge of the curved handle and it stands 2-1/4" tall (excluding the handle) on it's four hoof style feet. The boat has the Birks date mark for 1942 while the 5-5/8 x 3-5/8" tray bears a 1946 date stamp. This classy serving piece weighs 128.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no monograms, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs other than a few slight scratches and small, shallow dents on the boat rest part of the tray. There are a couple of short scratches on the bottom of the tray where someone tested it (maybe the stamped word "STERLING" had too many syllables for the tester to handle). A 5-5/8" long sterling silver honey serving spoon and 4-1/8" sugar tongs in the Tudor Scroll flatware pattern, introduced by Birks in 1919 - it had been out of production for some time. The honey spoon has a narrow flattened rim unlike the similarly shaped sugar shell and both items are in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some tiny denting to the back of the spoon and a W monogram on each piece. A vintage c1920s Buchanan & Lyall Just Suits Cut Plug tobacco tin. This 7-1/2 x 5 4-1/2" tin has orange/red graphics with gold, it has a carrying handle and a side locking tab, and the lid opens up. A Canton enamel squash blossom jewel or trinket box from the 1880s 1890s. This lovely and large Chinese enamel on metal box measures 4-1/2 x 3-1/2" and it stands 2-3/4" high on its foot rim. It is nicely worked with a fine life-like appearance and the hand applied enamel is in yellow, green and blue. The interior is light blue as is the underside. An evocative and well-painted framed 22-1/4" x 14-1/2" (sight size) English oil on canvas by Charles Cattermole (R.I., R.B.A., R.O.I. 1832–1900). Entitled "The Patrol's Return" on a mounted plaque on the 31-1/2" x 24" wood and plaster frame, this painting is signed CHAS CATTERMOLE on the lower right. The back has a Toronto gallery label from 1949 and the canvas is numbered 908 on the back. The image is clean with full colours and a glossy surface (and was most likely cleaned and revarnished in the not too distant past), and it is in excellent condition with no losses or damage to the canvas however there is moderate but noticeable plaster loss to the frame. A Charles Dana Gibson THE WEAKER SEX ink sketch study. We are proud to offer this original preliminary ink sketch by the famed American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944), the creator of the Gibson Girl. He first came to eminence as the foremost magazine illustrator of his time in the late 19th century, later in life he turned completely to painting. His long and illustrious career takes more room than alloted here to discuss, and is well covered elsewhere on the Internet. This item is a 22" x 15-1/2" preliminary ink study on paper of his "The Weaker Sex" illustration. The hair is done in characteristic fashion but the inking is more simplistic, and the magnifying glass is not as finely detailed as in the final work, which in the final version has a fourth woman in the upper right hand corner. His signature (Charles Gibson) is visible in the shadow area beneath the arm of the woman holding the magnifying glass. On the back of the drawing No. 84 and Mrs (or Miss) Drew is written in pencil. Besides the fact that he apparently was working out the details of the shadows under the arm, he most likely deliberately drew lines over the signature as this piece does not have the perfection of his finished work. The paper is a slightly heavy thickness of sketch pad paper; it is framed in a black-painted wood frame with gilding (minor paint spots and a couple of dings to the frame). Some notes on condition: there are some creases, a tear in the upper left, a few scratches to the paper surface, some brown foxing and some spotting and a water stain on the right hand side. A rarity and an interesting example of a great work in progress. This item is in very good original condition with the condition issued noted above. It has a floral style motif, and it has an impressed S as well as a pseudo Chinese mark, minor variants of which were used by Charles Meigh (1835-49), Charles Meigh & Son (1851-61) and also Job Meigh (c1805-34), all of Hanley, Staffordshire; we feel it dates from c1850-60 but it could possibly be of earlier manufacture. A Chinese articulated silver gilt fish pin circa 1930s. This fantastically detailed and superbly constructed 2-1/2 x 3/4" fish pin is lushly gilded and it is fully articulated and it has natural coral eyes. It has a safety clasp and the mouth is hinged and opens (for what purpose we don't know). A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. A sterling silver modern design Consul (Switzerland) ladies wrist watch circa 1970. The brushed face has a gradient colour, from chocolate to golden amber. The hands are silver, and the body of the watch is an abstract modernist plain solid cuff style. The back of the cuff has a clever and unusual gate type of closure to allow it to be easily taken on and off, unlike a cuff bracelet. The clasp works well and there is a safety chain and this watch weighs 48.0 grams. The face is marked Consul and Swiss Made, and it is a 17 jewel manual wind works. The back has an RW mark, as well as 925 sterling mark, a German crescent moon and crown, a floral oval hallmark and the (model?) numbers 5391 and 22. It measures 1 11/16" at the widest but tapers to a width of 5/8" at the narrowest, and the widest interior measurement is 2 3/8" across. A cranberry thumbprint pattern glass pickle cruet on a silver plated stand from the 1890 era. A Curt Schlevogt Czechoslovakia malachite glass perfume bottle with a cabochon from the 1930s. Typical of his pioneering work with this type of glass, this 2-7/8" tall and 2-1/2" across bottle has an Oriental motif and the variegated green and gloss and satin finish found on vintage 1930s pieces. An Art Deco period Czechoslovakian molded green Peking glass necklace circa 1920s. This is a brass and molded floral design 17 inch long necklace with a central 1-1/4" x 1" drop with a jade green coloured molded glass floral design. A (probably) Czechoslovakian 20" glass bead necklace c1910-20. This unusual necklace features faceted crystal round beads (5/16" and 5/8"), multicolour striped crystal 3/4" rods, black glass spacers and black round beads (7/16" and 3/4"). Also included are black double-cone beads with white applied edges and hand-blown green glass roses. All are joined with string and it has a springring catch; it is in excellent original condition with no cracks, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips to one multicolour bead, a slight corner chip to another and two green roses with losses. A Davenport 2614 Old Imari 2451 style pattern cup and saucer from 1870-1887. This wonderful fully hand painted English bone china 2-5/8" tall cup and matching 5-5/8" saucer has lush gold, cobalt and orange decoration. The pattern was later copied by Royal Crown Derby as "Old Imari" or "Traditional Imari" (in production from 1902-2014). This scarce cup and saucer has the Davenport mark used from 1870-87 and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than a tiny 1/16" surface glaze flaw or glaze crack. The cup rings true and on the top and interior edge the flaw isn't visible through the original gilding, which was applied over the flaw at the factory. An Art Deco carved Bakelite nail grooming kit with an elephant from Austria circa 1930. This period 3-5/8" x 5/8" vanity item features a carved threaded two-piece cylinder topped with an elephant figure with black glass bead eyes and traces of red colour; it is stamped AUSTRIA on the bottom. Included is the one remaining grooming tool - a cuticle pusher with bakelite handle (marked KLEIN-AUSTRIA).
