An Algonquin lidded sewing or yarn basket circa 1930s. This lovely Native American 10" tall and 6-1/2" across utility sewing basket has large hoop handles and the lid has a coiled wood yarn guide opening on the lid. It retains traces of the original natural dyes on the exterior while the interior of the body and lid show the bright red, orange and green of the original colours. This nice decor item is in very good condition with no major damage or repairs other than the mild dye fading and a small area of splits with a small loss to the narrow banding beside one of the handle mounts. A Fukagawa Seiji 9-3/4" tree peony Japan porcelain vase from the 1900-20 era. This large and wonderful high-quality Japanese porcelain vase has orange and blue tree peony flowers with yellow and white applied jewelling and gold highlights. It is in a myriad of blue colours with subtle gradations and shading and it has a gold rim and gold leaf veins. It has the Mt. Fuji mark used from 1900-20 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs. A genuine, vintage hand embroidered and beaded Pashtun tablecloth or tray cover cloth from the early part of the 20th century. These decorative embroidered and beaded textiles were made to show off the skills of young women in contemplation of marriage and this was brought back from Afghanistan in the 1960s. It is typically brilliantly coloured and it measures 33" x 27" (that measurement includes the beaded strands, which are approximately 1/1/2" in length). It is in excellent vintage condition with no major losses, holes, insect damage, fading, tears, damage or repairs. There are a couple of loose threads on the fringe and a touch of soiling but the cotton, silk, wool and silver threaded edging (which used to be known as cloth of silver, I believe) remain in remarkably fine condition. An Ando Japanese boxed cloisonne smoking set from the 1960s-1970s. This elegant set consists of the 9-1/2" x 4-3/4" faux alligator papered fitted box, the Japanese language "Cloisonne Making" fold-out pamphlet, the 3-5/8" covered cigarette jar, three 3-3/8" bowl-shaped ash trays, and the 17" x 9-1/2" fringed woven table mat. This set has an Organo mark on the bottom, possibly for Organo of Japan, a now world-wide Japanese company specializing in water treatment (they began in 1946, this may be an older company logo). The set is odour free and appears unused, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than one corrosion spot on the metal on one ash dish. A colourful and vintage c1950s-60s Native American beaded bolo tie. It is signed "MRS. LIZZIE (illegible)" on the deersking backing, and the glass beads on this 38" long tie (19" when worn) include green, pink, white, red, orange, yellow amber, metallic and various other colours; it is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor stretching of the elastic retaining strap on the deerskin back. An attractive, well painted Japanese 10" x 6-3/4" lacquer over wood box c1900. This box has a richly painted scene of a bird, tree with flowers and leaves and a curved fence with mountains and a lake in the background. The thickly applied colours include textured black (tree), gold, orange and grey. This box has a black interior and the original lock (key missing) with a metal escutcheon plate; it appears to have been used as a cigar box in the past however, it could be used for many things. It is unsigned, and it is in very good condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than bruise showing wood on the lid's lower right corner, some minor lacquer losses at two of the edges and on the upper edge of the lid. Please note that the bright edge on the front of the box in the first picture is reflection of the gold decoration, which is intact.
