The Kidds Southern Ontario garage band photo circa 1965. This professionally photographed and framed portrait of the mid-1960s garage/psych band The Kidds, who recorded one 45 rpm single record ("Children in Love") for Nestor Records, was purchased at a local auction in St. Catharines, Ontario (near Niagara Falls), the hometown of the band and many others of the era. The 14-1/2 x 11-1/2" photo is matted in a 20-3/4 x 16-3/4" black painted wood frame and it is initialed on the lower right by the photographer. It is high quality and genuine, and most likely unpublished. There is a documentary on Niagara area bands which features the Kidds, and using that and the invaluable help of the kind people at the Garage Hangover internet site we have a positive identification of the band. Interestingly this photo is NOT shown in the documentary although lots of other items are featured (search for Miil for The Big Story of Small Potatoes documentary). A search will bring you to the full documentary. A must for the garage band archivist, or the band member who doesn't have a copy. A signed Thomas Kerr Ebbutt galleon sailing ship sterling silver pin or brooch fully hallmarked for Edinburgh, Scotland 1959. It has the Ebbutt maker's mark (in use from 1937-69), it weighs 7.5 grams and there is a ribbon below the Viking style ship which has never been engraved. It is also stamped SOTLAND (sic) and it has an etched identification date from a previous owner. A TJ&J Mayer superb glazed moulded stoneware jug from the 18303s - 1850s. This wonderfully detailed and high quality glazed English high relief stoneware pitcher is 9-1/2" in height. It has a chocolate brown stippled ground on which is laid very thick allegorical scenes with palm trees in greyish coloured clay. It is known as the Paul and Virginia design. The hand-carved detail is stunning and even the handle is decorated with fronds and a stalk. The lip has two holes for the fitting of a pewter lid which was an option with these jugs - this example was never fitted. It has the stamped T.J.&J. MAYERS PATENT mark with DALE HALL POTTERY LONGPORT under the Royal Arms mark which was in use from c1843-55. It also has a No 102 18 pattern mark and the registry number for 1850. This item is in superb original condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some faint crazing on the glazed interior only. A great example of this Victorian decorative style. A Trajan silver drachm ancient Roman coin in an 18K yellow gold pendant. This genuine ancient silver coin depicts the Roman Emperor Trajan on the reverse and it is almost exactly the coin depicted here (combine the link in your browser address bar): www.forumancientcoins.com/ (plus) catalog/roman (plus) -and-greek-coins. (plus) asp?vpar=409 (there were subtle variations and differing year marks in this series). It is housed in a custom 18k yellow gold modern pendant setting that replicates a more ancient setting style and it is stamped 18K. It is also stamped R to ethically verify that the setting is a modern version. The coin is set in a bezel and it is intact and unsoldered and the entire weight is 7.1 grams. The coin is in excellent condition and it is struck very well and beautifully centered with smooth surfaces and no overt damage - a truly fine example. An antique Unger Bros sterling silver stamp safe or case circa 1890. This scarce late Victorian era 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" American sterling silver stamp safe has a lovely floral repouse design. This pocket stamp carrier is similar to a match safe in appearance, but smaller and without the striker edge. It has two circular cutouts on the upper edge for grasping the stamps. In the Victorian era, letter writing was a more popular pastime, so these boxes were a necessity to a well appointed desk. But not every writer had one, they are uncommon and are quite collectible today. It is stamped STERLING 925 FINE with the Unger Brothers maker's mark (they were in business 1872-1914), and it weighs 11.2 grams. An English hand painted Gaudy Welsh tea set by Allerton's, consisting of the 6" high teapot (including finial), the 5" tall large covered sugar bowl, the 4-3/4" tall milk or cream jug, four 2-1/2" tall cups and four 5-7/8" fitted saucers. Including the lids there are 13 pieces and each is handpainted with cobalt, orange, green and copper lustre. the shape and decoration are undoubtedly those of Allertons however the saucers are marked with what appear to be impressed date stamps (from 1928-29). The sugar and teapot have a 30 mark - it was illegal to sell unmarked china after 1891 so this set would appear to predate that year due to the lack of markings. Or not. This set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs except crazing to the creamer, sugar, one saucer and one cup. An unusual mid 19thC Japanese Imari 12 sided handled mug 1850. This 3-1/8" tall and 3-3/4" across the top Japanese porcelain mug features the Imari colours of red, orange, gold and blue, and it was undoubtedly made for the European market. A truly unusual late Victorian rolled gold plate swing-open photo or hair locket brooch c1900. This 1-3/8" diameter pin features a twist border and a bevelled glass window; it has a c-clasp and the back is hinged, opening to reveal a bezel holding the glass. A Victorian brass & glass fob with a Lord Kitchener medallion. This 5-1/4 x 1" brass and cut French Jet (black glass) watch fob has a swivel and it is complete with a later commemorative oval 1-3/4" x 1-1/4" pressed steel medallion depicting Lord Kitchener. The medal has a high relief portrait of Kitchener (1850-1916) with the legends FEARLESS NOBLE BRAVE AND TRUE and BRITAIN'S NOBLE SON. The fob and medallion are both in very good condition with some chips to the glass inserts, some minor denting and a patina of wear to the chain, and some loss and weathering to the plating on the steel medal.
