Certainly the finest and most decorative vintage chocolate box we've come across! This is a c1930s-40s (we think) paper wrapped box with an applied print of two kittens on the top. The textured paper wrap is wallpaper thick with lush gold highlights, and this box has a gold Urney applique. The original tied ribbon is also present on this 13-3/4 x 9-3/4" box, which has the original sticker on the bottom (CHOCOLATES - 1-1/2 LB NET MANUFACTURED IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND). An American Federal period portrait miniature of a lady circa 1800. This well painted antique miniature painting on ivory measures 2-5/8" x 2-1/8" is under a glass cover. The portrait features a woman with draped headdress and white dress. She is extremely well painted, and the case is leather over wood with a brass clasp. The cases were sometimes replaced over the years, so we can't that it is original to the portrait, although it may be. An antique embroidered silk with cotton back bed hanging or valance from the Xuantong era in the late Qing period 1908 - 1912. This beautiful fringed antique valance has fine embroidery, including gold thread and multi-color silk thread depicting flowers, butterflies, fish, people and many other symbolic figures and images, with fine short and long stitch embroidery and extraordinarily fine seed stitching. It is mounted on a pinkish cotton backing and it has a fine 7" fringe and edge netting. There are some black silk embroidered characters with the Xuantong era date. It has sewn red loops on the back of the fringe edge for the suspension of some article(s) and the top has a sewn fold for hanging much like a curtain-on-rod. The fabric section measures 81-1/2" x 18-1/2 inches. These fine embroideries were usually made to add to the bed of the newly married couple by the bride or her family. This item is in mostly excellent vintage condition with no tears, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor soiling to the cotton backing and some traces of thumbtacks from previous hangings and slight wear. It features a blue and yellow lithographed design and the swing-up brass handle has Victorian style decoration. An antique Dutch silver hand made miniature fireplace from 1900 or earlier. This unusual and well-made decorative miniature stands 1-5/8" high and 1-7/8" wide. It has a tooled gallery around the back plate, an integrated fire fender and floor surround and a space in the bed of the fireplace possibly for a wood cradle or grate (not present). It has an array of silver stamps including the Dutch sword mark and others - some may be import and maker's marks or resale marks (Dutch items were required to be marked each time an item is sold). This hand wrought decorative miniature weighs 19.6 grams and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there are two solder bumps at the top of the back plate where it may have had hoops attached for wear as a pendant at some time in the past. A rare and unusual japanese oil lamp lamplighter`s kit which dates to the 19th century or earlier. This wonderful and old set is in a gold-trimmed and black lacquer over wood 8-1/2" x 4-1/2 inch box, which stands 6-1/4" inches high. There is gold trim inside as well as on the underside of the lid, with some minor wear and loss, and there is a bruised corner on the upper base. The interior has a divided compartment, and the lighting tools are inserted into a recress in the base. The tools include a brass base and fitted platform which snaps tightly into place; the tools include a pouring pot in the shape of a teapot for the oil and a receptacle with a hinged lid as well as long brass tongs in their holding slot. The pourer has a removable lid revealing a bat-shaped cutout; the receptacle has a pricket for a candle, which was used to light the liquid-fuelled lamps. The drawers are long and shallow and they smell of incense, and the finely-hinged handles lift up in order for the drawer to be opened. They are also brass, and painted black. These lamplighting chests were utilized by Japanese lamplighters, and this one is unsigned but of undeniably fine quality and construction. A truly unusual item from the distant past, in remarkable condition. An antique Japanese Meiji period solid silver picture frame circa 1880-1900. This antique 5-1/2" x 3-1/2" frame has a bamboo pattern with a patterned ground; it has a textured snakeskin design paper over wood backing that originally had a support foot for standing up the frame. That is now missing and replaced with a wire so it can be hung on the wall. The frame front has copper round-head nails. It retains the original patterned backing paper and glass window. It is unmarked, as was often the case with older Japanese pieces, but tests as very high grade silver, sterling or likely higher, as .950 grade was often used in Japan. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the loss of the foot rest and slight bending at the lower right hand corner (very minor). An early Art Deco 14k white and yellow gold watch chain with slip knot shape long links circa 1920. This vintage 15-1/4" long watchchain is unusual, each link has a slip-knot in the center. The links alternate between white and yellow gold. The spring-ring is a replacement, as unlike the rest of the chain which is 14k, it is 10k.
