A rare, early English flow blue three piece soup tureen c1850-60. This tureen stands 11" high with the lid, and the matching, fitted underplate measures 14-3/4" x 13". It has a floral style motif, and it has an impressed S as well as a pseudo Chinese mark, minor variants of which were used by Charles Meigh (1835-49), Charles Meigh & Son (1851-61) and also Job Meigh (c1805-34), all of Hanley, Staffordshire; we feel it dates from c1850-60 but it could possibly be of earlier manufacture. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, losses, damage or repairs other than a tight 1-3/4" craze-like hairline near the lid's finial, some overall crazing, a few scattered craze lines to the bowl. A superb quality 4-3/8" across Sorrento ware wood inlay trinket or jewellery box from the mid to late 19th century. This box stands 1-3/4" high and it has wonderful colour and workmanship. The sides feature red banding and a Greek key design in green, yellow and black with a brown ground. The top is the highlight, with literally thousands of individually placed fruitwood tesserae in a needlepoint-style flower and leaf panel decoration - the effect isquite similar to a carpet; the colours are bright and unfaded and the fine workmanship is remarkable. The interior of the box is olive wood. The condition of this unsigned, brass-hinged box is very good indeed for a box of its age and type, with only some very small barely noticeable losses and craquelure to the finish. There is a small loss along the edge of one corner panel, some minor lid warping to the hinge and front edge leaving small gaps, a thin crack and small corner losses to one lower red band on one side panel and the possible replacement of one half of one hinge with a non-brass one. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. An antique Unger Bros sterling silver stamp safe or case circa 1890. This scarce late Victorian era 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" American sterling silver stamp safe has a lovely floral repouse design. This pocket stamp carrier is similar to a match safe in appearance, but smaller and without the striker edge. It has two circular cutouts on the upper edge for grasping the stamps. In the Victorian era, letter writing was a more popular pastime, so these boxes were a necessity to a well appointed desk. But not every writer had one, they are uncommon and are quite collectible today. It is stamped STERLING 925 FINE with the Unger Brothers maker's mark (they were in business 1872-1914), and it weighs 11.2 grams. A Victorian silver plate rolltop butter dish or server in the Aesthetic style from the 1880s. This antique beauty was made by Meriden and it has all of the hallmarks of quality and Victorian style and mechanical complexity. It has a pedestal base, a handle with floral decoration, high relief borders and a roll top with a pressed floral design. The rolling lid rests on two pins secured with a chained pinion and there are mounts on each side for a pair of butter knives. This steampunk item remains in reasonable condition with a few issues - one knife rest is missing (3 are intact), one side of one mounting bracket for the retaining pins is broken off, there is some pitting on the interior where a (now missing) ice liner would have been and there is a bit of plating loss on a few areas. The rolltop is functional and this would make a great decor item or table centerpiece (and a great "what is it?" for your next dinner party). An antique Chinese lady motif tea chest tin with hasp. This domed trunk style tea chest is 8-7/8" wide and it stands 6" tall. It features a blue and yellow lithographed design and the swing-up brass handle has Victorian style decoration. It also has a brass hasp and eye for a lock and it has a circled DB or BD maker's mark which we haven't identified. By the construction and style we'd say it's late Victorian but it could be slightly later - it is in very good condition with some minor surface corrosion spots, a few minor scrapes and a dent on the bottom along with the expected wear. An 1894 South Africa 1/2 Kruger Pond 22k gold coin mining brooch pin. This unusual pin was assembled as a souvenir of the South African gold mines and these coins were frequently brought back to the U.K. after the Boer war as souvenirs. This 2-1/8" example was constructed around the same time as the mintage of the coin which is in 22k gold (9 mm, 3.99 grams). It is mounted in a braided ring with finely wrought mine picks and shovel spades with gold nuggets - the setting tests as 10k gold. It has the original c-clasp and a safety chain and it weighs a total of 7.3 grams. Although soldered into the ring the coin remains in superb condition and this scarce historical souvenir of the gold trade in South Africa is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This size 5-1/2 ring features a natural purple genuine amethyst stone in a multi-claw setting and it has hand engraved foliate inlaid silver shoulders. It measures 5/16 x 1/4" across the stone, it has an obscured set of hallmarks and maker's marks with an O year date for Chester, England 1897 and it weighs 1.4 grams. A 15k rubies seed pearls shamrocks memento pin brooch from the 1875 era with green, yellow and rose gold. This splendid mid-Victorian 1-3/8" pin has an appealing hand etched floral design with genuine rubies and seed pearls as leaves and flowers. It also features a border with raised flowers alternating with raised and textured shamrocks which have leaves which are split with one side green gold and the other side of each leaf rose gold. On the back it has a compartment with a beveled glass window and retaining bezel which would have probably held a lock or braid of hair but now holds a trimmed tintype portrait of a man. It has a loop for wear as a pendant, it has the original c-clasp and it weighs 11.0 grams (intact). It is typically unmarked and it tests as 15k gold. The hair compartment is quite deep and it would easily hold a gold coin or other memento or even another portrait. A wonderful survivor and an example of the fine quality Victorian jewellers were able to accomplish. An 18k Victorian 5 pearls row engagement ring from the 1880s 1890. This antique size 5 ring features a row of five genuine pearls which in Victorian times meant fidelity, love, loyalty and purity. These were the wedding fashion before the diamond engagement ring came into vogue and this example tests as a minimum of 18 k gold (the marks are obscured and it may be as high as 22 carat). It measures 3/4" along the pearls setting and it weighs 4.5 grams. An antique Japanese Meiji period solid silver picture frame circa 1880-1900. This antique 5-1/2" x 3-1/2" frame has a bamboo pattern with a patterned ground; it has a textured snakeskin design paper over wood backing that originally had a support foot for standing up the frame. That is now missing and replaced with a wire so it can be hung on the wall. The frame front has copper round-head nails. It retains the original patterned backing paper and glass window. It is unmarked, as was often the case with older Japanese pieces, but tests as very high grade silver, sterling or likely higher, as .950 grade was often used in Japan. An exceptional Victorian Tunbridge Ware trinket or dresser box circa 1850s. Tunbridgeware was made as souvenir ware in England and Scotland. It consists of tiny inlaid exotic wood tesserae in geometric designs. This 4-3/8 x 4-1/4" and 1-3/4" high example has a repeating floral pattern on the top, a Greek key design on the sides and a bird's eye maple ground. The lid appears to be rosewood and the box is quite heavy. It retains the original colours which include green, yellow, red and gold and the workmanship is superb. A Minton wild strawberries A2625 hand painted berry or fruit bowl dated 1866. This Victorian beauty measures 9-3/8" across and it features finely handpainted leaves, flowers and wild strawberries all in high relief. This bowl is similar to other antique Minton patterns however we haven't definitively identified it. It has the impressed MINTON mark (used from 1862-71, later MINTONS) and a date cypher resembling that used for 1866. A Victorian 14k diamond brooch circa 1890. This antique 1" across whirling circle pin has a free and graceful open filigree design. This round yellow gold pin shows the transition from stylized Victorian to the more flowing Art Nouveau influence. It measures 1 inch across, and in the centre is a claw set clear white genuine European antique cut diamond, measuring 3.5 mm. across (approximately 20 pt. by gauge) - it is is VS2 diamond of I-J colour. It has the original gate-latch safety clasp, where it is stamped 14 K. It is in very good condition, with all of the claw work in excellent condition, and the diamond in excellent condition also, but please note there appears to be an old professional repair visible only on the back of the brooch. A Scottish sterling silver broad axe pebble broadaxe pin brooch from 1880-1900. This late Victorian 2-1/16 x 3/4" pin features hand engraving and shaped green and red jasper stones in the shape of a Scottish traditional broad axe. It is stamped MADE IN BRITAIN and the lack of full hallmarks was typical at the time to avoid duties on silver. An antique Dutch silver hand made miniature fireplace from 1900 or earlier. This unusual and well-made decorative miniature stands 1-5/8" high and 1-7/8" wide. It has a tooled gallery around the back plate, an integrated fire fender and floor surround and a space in the bed of the fireplace possibly for a wood cradle or grate (not present). It has an array of silver stamps including the Dutch sword mark and others - some may be import and maker's marks or resale marks (Dutch items were required to be marked each time an item is sold). A Victorian hand engraved sterling silver bangle with a double loop clasp. It features fine hand engraving on the shoulders beside the clasp which consists of a double loop in a hook and eye style. It has a fine safety chain anchored to a loop and it measures 2-3/8 x 1-7/8" across the interior and 5/16" wide. The chain has no second loop and it was probably soldered to the other loop as a retaining chain to the underside (where there is some solder) but it is now loose. This bangle is unmarked but tested and it weighs 12.2 grams. A Barbour Silver Co. silver plated tilt kettle, stand and associated burner from the 1890s. It has a simple, elegant design and it stands 13" tall from the top of the ebony wood handle to the bottom of the stand's ball feet. The base is unsigned, the kettle is stamped BARBOUR SILVER CO. NICKEL SILVER 4002 (operating from 1892-98) and the associated burner has the Meriden stamp. An M.J. Tobias Liverpool 18k & sterling engraved face Swiss pocket watch from the 1890s. This 14 size or 18 ligne watch is 1-7/8" across and it has a typical unmarked Swiss bar movement, a fancy engraved 18k yellow gold back cover with Swiss gold markings, a dust cover marked M.J. TOBIAS LIVERPOOL HANDS DETACHED LEVER FULL JEWELLED, and a very fancy engine turned and engraved sterling silver face with a village scene under a silver rimmed open face cover with a glass crystal. It has subtle gilded highlights, a single sunk second hand dial, blued hands and applied silver Roman numbers. Tobias started in Liverpool in 1805 and his family later expanded the watch business and started to export Swiss-sourced watches with varying cases and faces to the U.S. This face is one of a small variety of engraved faces we've seen - other configurations and cases were also made. This high relief, decorative personal grooming set consists of the 10 x 5" hand mirror with beveled glass, the 9-1/4 x 3" hair brush, the 5-5/8 x 1-3/4" small clothes or shoulder brush and the 7 x 2-1/2" large clothes brush. This vanity or dresser set matches, it has the Howard marks, STERLING, 925/1000 and a patent date of 1892 (PAT. '92.). A Victorian gold filled photo locket on a fancy rolled gold plate chain necklace from the 1870s 1880s. This necklace is unusual in that it is gold filled and not the typical sterling silver and it features yellow gold plate and a strip of fancy bordered rose gold plate setting off the design. It has a subtle matte finish and the rose gold is glossy and it opens up to show two (very faded) baby photos which both have annotations with names and the date 1900 as well as the paper lining, original glass windows and both bezels. This attractive oval 1-5/8 x 3/4" (including bale) locket retains the two photo retaining bezels and it has two instant relatives included. The back is undecorated and the front has a lovely X-style design with graduated seed pearls. It has a satin finish and it comes with a slightly later J.Co. 1906 15 YRS gold filled chain with a swivel. "15 YRS." refers to the guarantee on the chain's gold plating to last for 15 years under normal use (similar to that used on watch cases). A 15k yellow gold early Victorian rhodolite garnet stickpin from the 1850s. This 2-3/4" tie or cravat stick pin has fine wirework decoration on the 9/16" top which features a bezel-set pinkish-red rhodolite garnet stone. It is unsigned and tests as 15k gold, it comes with a bulldog and it weighs 1.7 grams (sans bulldog). It weighs 2.3 grams, it is stamped 10K with a maker's mark and the ends stand proud when viewed from the side giving it a nice subtle wave-like appearance. A Davenport 2614 Old Imari 2451 style pattern cup and saucer from 1870-1887. This wonderful fully hand painted English bone china 2-5/8" tall cup and matching 5-5/8" saucer has lush gold, cobalt and orange decoration. The pattern was later copied by Royal Crown Derby as "Old Imari" or "Traditional Imari" (in production from 1902-2014). This scarce cup and saucer has the Davenport mark used from 1870-87 and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than a tiny 1/16" surface glaze flaw or glaze crack. The cup rings true and on the top and interior edge the flaw isn't visible through the original gilding, which was applied over the flaw at the factory. A pair of Victorian rolled gold plate dangle drop earrings from the 1890s. These well-made hollow 1-3/4 x 1/2" earrings have an applied bow and four swinging drops each. They are screw-backs and they are unsigned. The backs are rose gold coloured and the earring itself is yellow gold and they may be the original backs (screwbacks were introduced in 1894).
