An 1894 South Africa 1/2 Kruger Pond 22k gold coin mining brooch pin. This unusual pin was assembled as a souvenir of the South African gold mines and these coins were frequently brought back to the U.K. after the Boer war as souvenirs. This 2-1/8" example was constructed around the same time as the mintage of the coin which is in 22k gold (9 mm, 3.99 grams). It is mounted in a braided ring with finely wrought mine picks and shovel spades with gold nuggets - the setting tests as 10k gold. It has the original c-clasp and a safety chain and it weighs a total of 7.3 grams. Although soldered into the ring the coin remains in superb condition and this scarce historical souvenir of the gold trade in South Africa is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use.
