A vintage two-volume set of "The Letters of Robert Louis Stevenson", selected and edited by Sidney Colvin. The publisher is Metheun and Co., London, England 1900, and this set is the second edtition. Each has hand-cut pages, gilding on the top edge, gilt purple endpapers and cloth bindings with title stickers applied to the spines. Each is tightly bound and includes a tissue-covered plate of Stevenson and an extra spine sticker tipped in to the endpapers. The books measure 6-1/2 x 9" and they have 375 and 384 pages (vol. 1 and 2). This set is in excellent condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than some foxing to the tissue, plate and title pages (not affecting the images) and some slight foxing to the extreme edges of the papers on the outside. Only a few pages have some light spots showing near the extreme edge, and the covers show slight rubbing to the seams and some bruising to the top and bottom of the spines. A fine hand painted and gold trimmed Dresden factory painted porcelain lidded jam or marmalade pot by Donath & Co. c1900. This 5-1/2" tall serving piece features different floral scenes on each panel between the footed columns and on the lid; it is marked with DRESDEN with the crown mark for Donath & Co. (1893-1916), and it has a gold rose painted over the Thomas maker's name. It also has the retailer's stamp for Ryrie Bros. Ltd. of Toronto (who were bought out by Birks in the 1920s). A Gorham silver plated open chafing dish on stand from the 1900 era. This top quality late Victorian era warming dish measures 9-5/8" across and it sits on the ornately designed heavy quality footed stand, which has a large fuel well with a turned handle. It has two mechanical burners - the long thumbwheels open the lids and raise and lower the wicks in the same motion, snuffing the flames. The burners are mounted in a fitted top which sits on the fuel well; they are stamped PAT'D AUG 29.1899. The stand is marked with the GMCo EP anchor mark for Gorham and it has a pattern number 0560, which also appears on the dish. This item is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a tight crack on the natural material of the handle. This Queen Anne style serving piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906; it has a C.H maker's mark for Charles, Alfred Henry & Francis Herbert Westwood trading as Charles Harrold & Co, 2 and 3 St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. It has an ebony finial with a threaded wingnut mount and it weighs 256 grams. A scarce and unusual 3-3/4" antique English porcelain souvenir beaker or tumbler from Elora, Ontario, Canada c1900. This travel memento features a black transfer of the Irvine Bridge; the area has long been a tourist destination and it is quite beautiful with the Victorian town and the Elora Gorge on the Grand River the highlights. This beaker has embossed decoration and gold trim; it is stamped with the Myott's mark with the Royal Grafton mark beneath it. A Posen 800 silver coffee set for 12 in box circa 1905-10. This stunning, all original set is in its original fitted case; this set consists of twelve 3-3/4" coffee spoons with gilt bowls, sugar tongs, and the ornate silver sugar bowl with the original clear glass liner. The box is green paper wrapped with gold borders and gilt shell clasps; the interior is silk lined with the L. Posen Wwe. retail stamp. It has the designation in the stamp Hoflieferant, which translates as suppliers or purveyors to the Imperial Court, which was granted to this firm in 1903. The well-respected German silver firm Lazarus Posen Witwe (widow) was established in 1869, and was in operation until it was destroyed by the Nazis on Kristallnacht in 1938. Each piece is stamped with the Posen marks, and the bowl features an exquisitely detailed gryphon and wreath openwork design; the inrterior is gilded as well. The 4" diameter sugar bowl has a clear crystal liner with a polished pontil, and there is a sugar tongs as well as the 12 spoons. The box measures 13" x 9-1/2", and this stunning quality set is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs and it appears possibly unused. There is only a bit of tearing of the bottom paper, a bit of soiling to the silk on the inside of the lid and some darkening of the gold borders on the exterior.

It has a sinuous Art Nouveau floral design and it is stamped STERLING GORHAM MFG CO 1984/6 on the bottom. A pair of so-called Whimsey glass vases c1900. Glass whimseys, or end-of-day glass, were made at the end of the day's glass production by glassmakers using leftover glass; these items were usually taken home and given as gifts. Many forms were produced, including glass canes, figurines and artistic objects. This pair is made of amber and citrene coloured glass with white highlights and ribbon decoration. They are unsigned and the amber vase has a hook so it can be hung on a wall; the other sits on a table. The hanging vase measures 6-7/8" from top to bottom and the yellowish table vase is 4-1/2" from the edge of the trumpet to the edge of the stem. A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some indenting to two feet on each of the interiors of the mustard and salt pieces, and slight denting on bugs. An ornate 11-1/4" boxed pair of matching sterling silver salad servers, made by Wm. Hutton & Sons of Sheffield, England in 1906. These servers are of heavy construction, and the shanks of the bowls are heavily tooled with an attractive design. The 14-3/4 x 5-1/4" black paper-wrapped box has gold trim, with a fitted satin and velvet interior. An Art Nouveau sterling silver purple crystal & clear paste lavaliere necklace from the 1900 era. This 14-3/4" drop lavaliere necklace features a central 2-1/4" x 1-1/4" drop with clear paste stones and two large ones in deep amethyst purple. It is a heart shape variant with the graceful curvy lines so popular at the time. It is unmarked but tests as high grade silver, sterling or near sterling. A pair of Zig Zag confection tin lithograph premium miniature cups circa 1900. These scarce advertising miniature tin cups were given away as premiums in Zig Zag confections at the turn of the century. The first has floral decoration and the D.L. Clarke company logo and name, a box of the Zig Zag confection and the name of the Franz Euler Co. of New York, the manufacturers of the premiums and advertising items used by Clarke to promote their products. Zig Zag was a product similar to Cracker Jack, and these premiums were included in boxes of the product. The other cup depicts the confection box as well as a picture of Clarke's Zig Zag Pepsin gum. Each is lithographed with bright colours and each has interior and bottom gold toning. They are in very good condition with the following condition issues: 1)the first cup has a bent handle, some minor losses to the gold wash, and some moderate scrapes and dings to the decoration, however the graphics are strong and legible 2)the second (gum) cup has an intact handle and it is somewhat less scraped than the other. An untitled oil on board painting by Lionel Macdonald Stephenson (Canada, 1854-1907) depicting a rocky shore line with island. Famous for his paintings of Fort Garry (Winnipeg, Manitoba), this 12-1/4" x 9-1/4" artwork is in a period (repainted) gold 17-1/2" x 14-1/2" frame. A 10k yellow gold signet ring with stylized letters 1900-1910. This size 4 gentleman's signet pinky ring measures 1/2" x 7/16" across the top and it has an applied letters monogram which is possibly JJS - it is done in such a way as to vaguely resemble a dollar sign. It is stamped with a maker's mark and 10K, and it weighs 3.0 grams. A superb and vintage Art Nouveau 12-3/4" across Austro-Hungarian ceramic wall plaque depicting a lovely woman with an earring and flowers in her hair c1905. This terracotta plaque is probably by Ernst Wahliss, and it has an impressed flying dove stamp with a pattern number 1518. It also has a pencil notation 5620/23, which was typical. Some Wahliss items had a foil tag which often became lost. It has a brown border, a black ground and an ivory coloured face with brownish hair. This item is in excellent condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a few slight flakes to the brown border and a fine scratch along her chin.
