A 17th century Wenceslas Hollar "Trinitarianus" hand coloured engraving in frame. This finely detailed etching has a sight size of 10-3/8 x 6" with a plate size of 10-1/8 x 5-5/8". It is marked "Trinitarianus 831 W. Hollar fecit" and it is plate 831. It is on laid fibrous paper and it was from the series/portfolio "The Antiquities of Warwickshire Illustrated" printed in London, England 1656 (Hollar (1607-1677) was from Prague, Bohemia. It could be from the second state used in Dugdale's Monastic Anglicanum in 1661 or the third state in 1673. We have seen this engraving in monotone and the colour could well have been applied later (which was commonly done). The black wood frame measures 14-3/4 x 9-3/4" and this print is in excellent condition with only light tanning and mellowing and a couple of minor spots of foxing. There are a few minor rubs to the black on the old frame. A vintage, original dated hand tinted copper plate stipple engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi dated 1786. This print measures 11" x 8-3/8" (imprint size) and it is in a later (c.1900) painted and gilt 14-3/4" x 11-3/4" frame. It has the following inscriptions: "Painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds", London. Published Dec 12th 1786 by E.M. Diemar, No. 114 Strand, and "Engraved by F. Bartolozzi, R.A. Engraver to His Majesty. The image is titled The Honourable Miss Bingham" and it has flesh and blue hand tinting. This item is in excellent original condition with no tears, foxing, image staining, fading, losses, damage or repairs other than some uniform paper darkening/acidosis and a water stain at the bottom 5/8" away from the paper border impression. A Georgian 14k glass emerald and diamonds ring circa 1780-1800. This antique yellow gold (unmarked but tested and guaranteed) ring features a 3/8" across top which has claw set early silver coloured genuine rose cut diamonds surrounding an emerald coloured glass stone. Emeralds then were a scarce and difficult stone to acquire, so the use of a cut glass "gem" with diamonds was not unusual. This ring weighs 2.5 grams and it is in excellent original condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than chips under two claws of the glass emerald stone. A rare early Wedgwood tri-colour miniature jasper cameo pin circa 1790 1800. This English Georgian period 2-1/4" x 1-1/4" tri-color jasperware brooch consists of a Wedgwood miniature plaque mounted in a (later) sterling silver setting. The jasper ware cameo dates to approximately 1780-1800, and this beautiful miniature has a very light blue, white and royal blue edge classical scene of a sacrifice to the gods of classic mythology. This exact cameo appears in the top of a patch box in the 1953 Wedgwood book by Wolf Mankowitz, dated to circa 1785 (plate 97). These miniature Wedgwood jaspers were often mounted in the cut steel jewellery popular in the Georgian period, or were sometimes set into the top of boxes, but were also sold unmounted. The mounting for this pin is sterling silver, with a modern period wheel catch, so it would have been set in the sterling setting at a later date. It is impressed WEDGWOOD with a small cross mark, a deep and not perfectly evenly lettered mark as should be expected in a piece of this age. The pin is stamped STERLING and it has a safety catch. A pair of English Georgian period sterling silver footed salt cellars or dishes with clear glass liners, fully hallmarked for London, England 1771-2. This antique pair of 2-1/2" diameter salt stands or dips are 1-1/2" high, and they have three hoof design feet. The liners are clear blown glass with a polished pontil, and these salt dips have a maker's mark for Nathaniel Appleton and Anne Smith (London, est. 1771). This is a classic 8-3/4" x 8-1/2" (top measurement) two-handled heavy brass Chinese censer dating to the late 17th-early 18th century. This censer weighs approximately four kilograms and it has the ornate two character Xuande mark on the bottom, and an interior six character Xuande mark. A rare Bilston enamel cow patchbox with floral 1770-1790. This antique English Georgian period Bilston enamel patchbox or patch box features an enamelled lying cow on the top and a painted porcelain floral on the bottom circa. This 1-7/8" x 1-5/8" copper/brass mounted box was used to hold patches, the applied facial beauty marks popular at this time. It stands 1-1/4" high, and the hand painted cow has a well-painted face, with green, pink, white, yellow and black enamel. The hand painted floral design on the underside is well painted, and the interior has a mirror and white enamel on the top's inside. This item has the following condition issues, which are common to antique examples like this one: enamel losses to the cow's tail and rear flank, an enamel loss to the green grass, cracks and an old restoration to the porcelain floral panel, minor cracking to the surface of the interior white enamel, and cracking and silver losses to the mirror. A late 18thC Qing Dynasty Canton enamel bowl. This high quality bowl has original gilding and it dates to circa 1770 - 1800. This lobed quatrefoil shaped bowl measures 7-3/4" x 6-1/4" and it is 3-1/8" in height. The enamelling is particularly fine, done to the Chinese taste. The rim of the bowl retains much of its original gilding. The interior is a pale blue enamel, the bottom is speckled white. The upper rim has a Greek key design border. While it doesn't appear to have been much used other than decoratively, this bowl was likely made to be a jardiniere, and may have been used as that previously. It is in excellent condition for its age, with no corrosion, apparent losses, damage or repairs other than a slight touch of wear to the gilding on the edges and some minor discolouration spots to the interior enamel. A set of 4 Chinese Qianlong tea bowls and saucers. These period porcelain blue and white 1-5/8" high cups and 4-5/8" saucers date from 1736-95, and this set has a central scene on the saucers and the outside of the cups, decorated borders, and interior flowers in the cups. All pieces are unmarked, and they are in good condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than a 1/16" rim flake to the glaze on one cup and roughness and glaze flakes to the rims of all of the saucers. A fine quality late 18th century copper plate etching by Francesco Londonio (1723-1783) of Milan, Italy. This Georgian period etching is from the Costumes Pastoris (Pastoral Customs or more commonly, Pastoral Scenes ) series. Image size (taken from the plate indentation lines) is 36 cm. x 27 cm. (14-1/4" x 11"). This series was produced for Consigliere Mellerio. This item is in the collection of the National Digital Library in Portugal, and a collection of Londonio's etchings resides at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco (F.A.M.S.F.), amongst others, and there are some etchings from this specific series in the F.A.M.S.F. collection. The F.A.M.S.F. dates this series to the 18th century. It has an 8 in the lower right corner, indicating that this is plate 8 in the series. It is housed in a later 19th century black finished wood frame measuring 21-5/8" x 18-1/2", and it is in very good original condition with no cracks, tears, repairs, losses, damage or repairs other than some very fine overall speckled foxing and a central crease. A genuine George III English Spade Guinea coin pendant dated 1791 and made of 22K gold. This is a genuine antique Georgian period gold coin from the UK - it was only in production from 1787-99. It measures 1" across and it has been soldered to a 14k or 15k mount with an attached loop for wear as a pendant or as a watch fob. This coin shows considerable wear (high carat gold was very soft and wore easily) however the subject matter and date is clearly visible. This pendant weighs 8.4 grams (in total) and it has no monograms, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the later mount and the expected wear to the coin. A Georgian Wedgwood black basalt bowl from the 1790 1800 era. In the unadorned black basalt matte finish, this classic antique bowl is stamped WEDGWOOD 6 with an incised broken circular mark near the edge. It is simple in style, 9-1/4" across and 4" high with a 1-1/4" collar and a fine foot rim. This item is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor residue deposits on the interior and some linear light surface abrasions on the exterior waist (somewhat exaggerated in our halogen-lit picture). A set of 4 Chinese Qing dynasty tea bowls and saucers. These antique porcelain blue and white 1-5/8" tall tea bowls or cups and 4-5/8" wide saucers date from 1736-1795. It is possible they are slightly older. This antique Chinese porcelain set has a man on a horse holding a small twig, followed by a servant carrying provisions. The background shows a tree starting to flower. My interpretation is that he was looking for indications that winter is over, so the important work of spring can begin. The scenes are the same on the saucers and the outside of the cups, decorated borders, and interior flowers in the cups (possibly prunus/plum), but everything is hand painted, so no pieces are identical. These tea bowls were more likely produced for the Chinese rather than European taste. The porcelain is a fine quality. All pieces are unmarked, and they are in reasonably good condition, but with no losses, damage or repairs other than sone very fine edge chips on the cups and a fine partial hairline crack in one saucer. Please note that all pieces have the expected glaze irregularities including burst bubbles, tiny firing cracks on the bottom rim of one cup, bottom rim chips on one saucer, and a few tiny firing pits/dark kiln specks from the manufacture of these pieces.
