A 800 solid hand engraved Italian lidded canister or box circa 1930-35. This lovely silver item is gilded on the interior and it has a lobed design with ornate floral engraving. It could possibly have been for cigarettes, although similar items were also prodiced to hold sugar or tea. It is stamped 800 MILANO and A RONCHI on the bottom. The jewellery firm August Ronchi opened in Milan, Italy in 1929 - this firm sells mostly high end jewellery and watches, but has also produced lovely quality silver items in the past. It weighs an impressive 201.2 grams, and it is in excellent vintage condition with no monograms, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A large and elegant European silver goblet of modern design by Wilhelm Binder of Schwabisch Gmund (Germany), established in 1869. This goblet apparently dates c1900-10. It measures 8-3/4" (24cm) in height, and measures 4-1/4" (just under 11 cm) across the rim. It weighs approximately 227 grams. It is stamped with the German post-1886 crescent moon and crown mark, 835 WTB and has a company number of 73123 and a small punch mark we could not make out. It has not been monogrammed or inscribed, and it is in excellent condition, with no dents, breaks, corrosion, repairs or damage. A massive Neoclassic English sterling silver centerpiece basket, fully hallmarked for Sheffeld 1910. Made by the firm James Dixon & Sons, this basket is a prime example of quality Edwardian silver done in the revivial of design from a century earlier. It has gadrooned edges, scroll and leaf edge terminals, and berried wreath designs. This 16-3/4" x 11" beauty weighs an impressive 1010 grams (approximately 32.5 troy ounces) of sterling silver. It was presented as an award, and it has the following inscription at the center of the bowl: PRESENTED TO W.T. GENT, Esqre. J.P., IN RECOGNITION OF 30 YEARS SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL OF MISTERTON 11th MARCH 1925." Mr. Gent was the Justice of the Peace of the small town and rural area of Misterton, Nottinghamshire, England, and the inscription also has the names of other council members. This basket is solidly made and heavy, and it was actually plated with sterling over the original parcel gilding (polishing has revealed gilding under polished silver areas, rather than vice-versa). As this basket was bought on the secondhand market for presentation some 15 years after its manufacture, the purchasers opted to silver over the existing gilding, which was considered somewhat ostentatious and contrary to the British taste of the day. Some of the gilding is visible on the ribbon openwork, on the upper section of the base, and on the inscription area. Further polishing will reveal the intact gilding under the thin sterling plating done probably at the time of presentation. This wonderful survivor is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the areas of exposed gilding. An Edwardian period sterling silver ladies mesh purse or handbag circa 1900 1910. It is in excellent antique condition - no damage or missing parts and it has the original antique chain handle. It snaps shut firmly and evenly. It has not been initialled or engraved. It measures 5 " in width when it is hanging down, & 9" wide when extended. It measures 5 3/4" from top to bottom, not including the chain handle, which measures 14" in straight length. A pair of English sterling silver matching gravy boats from 1906 by Martin Hall & Co. hallmarked for Sheffield England 1906 - 1907. This antique matched pair of 2 gravy or sauce servers measure 7" from the lip to the edge of the handle and they stand 3-3/4" tall to the handle's top; they have the maker's mark for Martin Hall & Co. Ltd. They weigh 343 grams and have a Celtic design G or G monogram. The feet are a simple trefoil shape. They have a liquid capacity of approximately eight to nine ounces in each gravy boat. They are in very good antique condition with no breaks, losses, damage or repairs other than some surface marks on one boat (which (see pictures) and ordinary signs of use. This 2-1/4" high serving piece has the maker's mark for either John Deacon & Son or John Dixon & Son, and it weighs 67 grams. This Queen Anne style serving piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906; it has a C.H maker's mark for Charles, Alfred Henry & Francis Herbert Westwood trading as Charles Harrold & Co, 2 and 3 St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. It has an ebony finial with a threaded wingnut mount and it weighs 256 grams. A Posen 800 silver coffee set for 12 in box circa 1905-10. This stunning, all original set is in its original fitted case; this set consists of twelve 3-3/4" coffee spoons with gilt bowls, sugar tongs, and the ornate silver sugar bowl with the original clear glass liner. The box is green paper wrapped with gold borders and gilt shell clasps; the interior is silk lined with the L. Posen Wwe. retail stamp. It has the designation in the stamp Hoflieferant, which translates as suppliers or purveyors to the Imperial Court, which was granted to this firm in 1903. The well-respected German silver firm Lazarus Posen Witwe (widow) was established in 1869, and was in operation until it was destroyed by the Nazis on Kristallnacht in 1938. Each piece is stamped with the Posen marks, and the bowl features an exquisitely detailed gryphon and wreath openwork design; the inrterior is gilded as well. The 4" diameter sugar bowl has a clear crystal liner with a polished pontil, and there is a sugar tongs as well as the 12 spoons. The box measures 13" x 9-1/2", and this stunning quality set is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs and it appears possibly unused. There is only a bit of tearing of the bottom paper, a bit of soiling to the silk on the inside of the lid and some darkening of the gold borders on the exterior.

A Gorham Art Nouveau sterling silver swing-handle basket circa 1900. This lovely American basket measures 6-3/8" x 4-7/8" across the basket and it stands 7-1/2" to the top of the handle. It has a sinuous Art Nouveau floral design and it is stamped STERLING GORHAM MFG CO 1984/6 on the bottom. It weighs 181 grams (5.8 ounces) and it in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a small split on one of the cutouts (see image). A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some indenting to two feet on each of the interiors of the mustard and salt pieces, and slight denting on bugs. An ornate 11-1/4" boxed pair of matching sterling silver salad servers, made by Wm. Hutton & Sons of Sheffield, England in 1906. These servers are of heavy construction, and the shanks of the bowls are heavily tooled with an attractive design. The 14-3/4 x 5-1/4" black paper-wrapped box has gold trim, with a fitted satin and velvet interior. This fine hand engraved 9 x 6-3/4" standup picture frame dates to around 1910 and this oval frame has ball feet, a brass support foot (patented May 19, 1908) and the original plush insert. It is stamped STERLING with the Webster maker's mark, and it is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a dent in one foot, the loss of the nap to the plush backing, and a shallow dent on the front at the top right. A JG Graves Sheffield sterling silver swing-out key pocket watch 1902. This English sterling silver key wind cased pocket watch is by JG Graves of Sheffield, England. Graves (1866-1945) was a watchmaker, entepreneur and benefactor, and this watch is hallmarked for Chester 1902, with the swing-out case having the Graves maker's mark. The watch is 2" across and the works measure 1-9/16" across the plate. They are inscribed J.G. GRAVES SHEFFIELD REVERSING PINION No688375. The single sunk dial has gold toned hands and it has THE "EXPRESS" ENGLISH LEVER in red and a black script G.S. GRAVES SHEFFIELD (indicating a late issue). It has an engine turned and engraved design on the back of the case and the back dust cover is unmarked. It is key wind and adjustment is by a nut at the pivot of the hands on the dial. This watch includes a later plastic base and dome cover, and it is in good condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs - the case, porcelain dial and works all appear intact, clean and undamaged however this watch doesn't run and the crystal has some minor abrasions. An Edwardian heavily engraved long bar straight pin brooch from around 1910. This pin measures 2-1/2" x 3/16" and it has a deeply tooled swirl design and dentate (tooth-like) border. It would make an appropriate veil pin for a bride, or a cheerful addition to a jacket, tie, collar or blouse. A wonderful Valentine day or sweetheart gift.
