A 14K Australian black opal ring circa 1960s with intense color. This vintage opal is a genuine opal gem stone, most likely from the Andamooka area in Australia. It has been sugared (treated with sugar and acid) to deepen the colour. Andamooka opals can be great quality, but treating them to intensify the color has been done for many years. The setting is an abstract modern design in 14 K yellow gold, custom made for the opal. It is a size 7-3/4 or 7.75 and the opal is a cabochon opal measuring 24mm x 12mm x 4.4mm - approximately 7 carats in size. It has a fantastic colour play including intense red, green, blue, gold, orange and purple. Our pictures don't do this stone justice, and the view of the ring on a hand shows the intensity of the colours. It is stamped 14 K and this is a genuine opal all through, not a doublet. It comes with a recent independent professional gemological appraisal for $3500 CAD which does mention the sugar enhancement, so it is factored into the value given. The ring weighs 7.3 gr. A Pforzheim Germany plique-a-jour enamel Arts and Crafts necklace from the 1910 era. This stunning survivor from the Edwardian era was made in the Pforsheim area of Germany which was the center of such items. Plique-a-jour (French: "Light of Day") refers to the labour-intensive technique of repeatedly firing enamel in metal-bordered cells resembling cloisonne, resulting in unbacked transluscent panels. This fine example measures 1-7/8 x 15/16", it has a baroque pearl drop and a pink tourmaline in silver (800 grade or better) with pale lavender purple enamel panels. The best exponent of this work was the firm of Levinger & Bissinger who were prime exponents of the Jugendstil movement. Included is a contemporary associated arts and crafts 25-3/8" chain (stamped STERLING on the hook and eye clasp) from which is suspended the pendant on a 4-1/8" drop with a hook suspension. The pendant has an impossible to read mark which appears to be a diamond cartouche containing a B and a possible animal head - a silver mark but as yet unidentified. This piece looks like the work of Levinger & Bissinger but we are unable to definitively confirm it's one of their pieces. This rarity weighs 7.1 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs; a couple of enamel panels show natural striations form their manufacturing process. A pair of Victorian 12k yellow gold pierced swinging earrings circa 1880 1890. These stunning antique 1-1/2" x 7/8" (including ear wire) earrings feature a finely detailed ring which swings back and forth across the faceted interior gold ball. They are not stamped, but test as at least 12k gold. 12k was used as part of the United Kingdom gold standard from the 19th century until 1932. A 10k opal and rubies oval circlet ring from the 1950s - 1960. This vintage size 7 yellow gold ring features a wonderfully colorful and flashy 70 point genuine opal (calculated by gauge) which has orange, green and blue fire (only hinted at in our pictures). It is surrounded by 14 genuine round cut rubies and the setting measures 1/2" x 3/8" across. This is a classic gem design that has endured through centuries, and the rubies and oval opal enhance each other. Please note that the rubies are a slightly darker red colour than they appear in the photo (on our viewer, anyway). This ring weighs 2.5 grams, it has an obscured maker's stamp and tests as 10K or slightly higher. There is no 10 K mark, possibly the ring was sized and that mark was lost. Opal is the birthstone for October and July is ruby. One of the claws for the opal is a repair, and the opal sits about 1/32" out of alignment due to this. A 12K Egyptian rose gold genuine yellow topaz ring. This vintage size 6-1/2 or 6.5 genuine topaz solitaire has gold hallmark for Egypt. The date mark may be for 1943 -1944, but that may vary by city where assayed. The claw-set stone is a rectangular faceted or emerald cut, and is a definite yellow with very slight brown under-tone, and has an excellent clarity. The topaz measures 11.5mm x 9.1mm and has a depth of 7.3mm, so it is slightly over 5 carats in size. The ring weighs 3.2 grams. We also tested the ring, and it appears to be closer to 14K, but is being sold according to its assay mark. A 14k white gold genuine ruby and diamonds ring circa 1940s. This elegant vintage size 6-1/4 or 6.25 quatrefoil shape ring features a central 42 point natural oval ruby of medium dark purplish red colour with light inclusions, surrounded by two brilliant and 24 single cut diamonds (total 26 points, SI, G-H colour). The ring is a style which looks lovely on a hand. The jewel part of the ring measures 13/16" long and x 1/2" wide across the finger. It is marked 14 K and has a maker's mark of TJF or TIF (mark worn), and it weighs 4.1 grams. Thoughtful 75th or ruby anniversary or July or April birthday. There is an independent gemological appraisal with this item for $1500 CAD. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A 14k white gold man's diamond with black onyx bullseye ring by Birks from the late 1930s 1950. This vintage size 7 men's ring by Birks Canada has a central 21 point genuine diamond which has a round black onyx stone bezel set around the centre stone. It is stamped BIRKS and 14 K and another mark. The whole ring is white gold, and was custom made at Birks. The ring comes with an independent gemologist's appraisal for $2000CAN. The diamond measures 21 points (measured in setting) and is SI-1 clarity and I-J colour. There are two quite minutes chips at the bezel, visible only with a loupe, and this was mentioned in the appraisal of $2000 CAD. The ring measures 5/16" across the top and it weighs a substantial 6.7 grams; it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. It was photographed before being cleaned, so there are vestiges of surface grime visible in our photos.

An early Victorian 18k Socrates carnelian intaglio signet ring. This antique size 7-3/4 or 7.75 rose gold mid-19th century ring is completely hand made. It and it features a deeply carved carnelian intaglio portrait of Socrates. It is simply executed but stylish with subtle design flourishes. It measures 7/8 x 5/8" across the bezel-set intaglio gem stone. It has a full set of stretched and now obscured hallmarks - it tests as 18K. Although the stone is a substantial size, this ring in the 18thC and 19thC worn on a gentleman's pinkie finger as a pinkie ring. In order to save gold some jewellers would stretch the shank to resize the ring rather than solder another section of gold to effect the sizing and that appears to be the case here. It weighs 8.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, it does show wear and patination commensurate with age.

This scarce survivor features three lovely navy blue synthetic sapphires with natural pearls between them, all set in tooled stars. This bangle measures 2-3/8 x 2" across the interior, it is 1/4" wide and it weighs 13.8 grams. It has a pushbutton clasp and it is stamped 14K with a key maker's mark.
