This fine 1-1/8" Victorian pin is in the Aesthetic style and it is a fancy starburst with heart-shaped gold ribbon flourishes. A 15k rubies seed pearls shamrocks memento pin brooch from the 1875 era with green, yellow and rose gold. This splendid mid-Victorian 1-3/8" pin has an appealing hand etched floral design with genuine rubies and seed pearls as leaves and flowers. It also features a border with raised flowers alternating with raised and textured shamrocks which have leaves which are split with one side green gold and the other side of each leaf rose gold. On the back it has a compartment with a beveled glass window and retaining bezel which would have probably held a lock or braid of hair but now holds a trimmed tintype portrait of a man. It has a loop for wear as a pendant, it has the original c-clasp and it weighs 11.0 grams (intact). It is typically unmarked and it tests as 15k gold. The hair compartment is quite deep and it would easily hold a gold coin or other memento or even another portrait. A wonderful survivor and an example of the fine quality Victorian jewellers were able to accomplish. It is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor damage to the cut tintype portrait. There is a slight patina from use which is quite exaggerated in our pictures. We gave this pin a simple surface cleaning only, preferring to leave the 150 years of patina intact. A 15k sardonyx cameo Etruscan style watch or locket pin brooch from the 1860 era. This fine mid-Victorian 2-3/4 x 7/8" pin features a fine carved genuine sardonyx male warrior portrait mounted on an Etruscan style pin with ornate wirework. It is unsigned and it tests as a high 15k (a bit below 18k) and it also has a hook for the suspension of a watch or locket. It weighs 7.8 grams and it is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses or damage other than some gold soldered repairs, a small split and the replacement of the original c-clasp with a safety clasp end. There is some blush and tarnish as you would expect on a piece after a century and a half. A 15k yellow gold early Victorian rhodolite garnet stickpin from the 1850s. This 2-3/4" tie or cravat stick pin has fine wirework decoration on the 9/16" top which features a bezel-set pinkish-red rhodolite garnet stone. It is unsigned and tests as 15k gold, it comes with a bulldog and it weighs 1.7 grams (sans bulldog). A 15k yellow gold enamel and pearl Victorian stickpin lapel brooch from the 1860s-70s. This stylish beauty features a 3/4" across head with a twisted cord decoration along with cobalt blue enamel in the shape of a star. There is a 4 mm. pearl in the center of the dome and it measures 2-3/4" long in total and it weighs 5.2 grams. A 17th century Wenceslas Hollar "Trinitarianus" hand coloured engraving in frame. This finely detailed etching has a sight size of 10-3/8 x 6" with a plate size of 10-1/8 x 5-5/8". It is marked "Trinitarianus 831 W. Hollar fecit" and it is plate 831. It is on laid fibrous paper and it was from the series/portfolio "The Antiquities of Warwickshire Illustrated" printed in London, England 1656 (Hollar (1607-1677) was from Prague, Bohemia. It could be from the second state used in Dugdale's Monastic Anglicanum in 1661 or the third state in 1673. We have seen this engraving in monotone and the colour could well have been applied later (which was commonly done). The black wood frame measures 14-3/4 x 9-3/4" and this print is in excellent condition with only light tanning and mellowing and a couple of minor spots of foxing. There are a few minor rubs to the black on the old frame. An 1894 South Africa 1/2 Kruger Pond 22k gold coin mining brooch pin. This unusual pin was assembled as a souvenir of the South African gold mines and these coins were frequently brought back to the U.K. after the Boer war as souvenirs. This 2-1/8" example was constructed around the same time as the mintage of the coin which is in 22k gold (9 mm, 3.99 grams). It is mounted in a braided ring with finely wrought mine picks and shovel spades with gold nuggets - the setting tests as 10k gold. It has the original c-clasp and a safety chain and it weighs a total of 7.3 grams. Although soldered into the ring the coin remains in superb condition and this scarce historical souvenir of the gold trade in South Africa is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. An 18k birks bow brooch with diamonds from the 1950s. This retro brooch with three claw-set round brilliant cut genuine diamonds circa 1950s is well-made; it measures 2-1/8" x 1-1/4" pin is stamped 18 K and BIRKS. It has a safety catch, and it weighs 9.9 grams. The diamonds measure approximately 6 points in total - they are sparkling clear and white (VS, E-F colour). It is in excellent vintage condition with no breaks or cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, and the claws are in excellent condition also. It had an independent gemological appraisal by a certified gemologistfor $2600 CAD. I would doubt a piece of comparable quality could be purchased at Birks even for the appraised value, even if on sale. An 18k carved jade jadeite bracelet from the 1920s. This exceptional yellow gold and jadite bracelet features 6 carved floral jade stones claw-set on gold mounts interspersed with 18k yellow gold links resembling good luck symbols. It measures 7-1/4" long and 3/8" across the largest jade link. It weighs 12.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs.
