An E.J.D. Bodley Bamboo pattern trivet dated 1879. This 6-3/4" hexagonal shaped English bone china trivet was produced by E J D Bodley of Burslem, England. This plate has high relief bamboo decoration with a green border and thickly applied gold highlights; it has the English registry mark for a manufacture date of 1879 (this Bodley mark was used from 1875-92). A superb and evocative 1-5/8 x 1-3/8" mid-Victorian mourning pin in 14k yellow gold (unmarked but tested). This pin features a carved pink coral hand with black enamel bands on its sleeve, holding a wreath of flowers and leaves. There are seed pearls in the flower centers and there is a claw-set pearl in the center. It has a reeded edge and a c-clasp which has been added a bit later for wear as a brooch; originally it would have been a pendant and a small loop remains at the top. It is unsigned, it weighs 10.2 grams, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some wear to the central pearl and the addition of the pin. A rare set of the Birth of Edward VII comemorative china 1841. This is a grouping of the rarest Royalty commemmorative souvenirs we have encountered - this is a large covered sugar bowl, creamer and two cups and saucers in English pearlware celebrating the birth of (future) King Edward VII in 1841. Given the title Prince of Wales immediately following his birth, this set features the Prince of Wales feathers and a scene with ICH DIEN ("I Serve") on a banner and depictions of the Princess Royal and the Prince of Wales. Decoration is in a transfer blue which is on the outside of all pieces as well as on the interior of the cups; there are Prince of Wales feathers on the inside of the creamer's spout. Interestingly, the finial has been attached with a bolt and screw assembly which has had glaze applied over it. All pieces are unmarked, the sugar with lid stands 7-1/4" high, the creamer is 5" high, the cups are 2-1/2" high, and the saucers are 6-1/8" across. The sugar bowl's finial has purple highlights and considering its age this set is in very good condition with the following issues: 1)sugar bowl - staining and crazing plus fading on the body, tight 1/2" hairline to rim of lid 2)creamer - fine overall crazing 3)cup 1 - remnants of faded and worn feathers at bottom of bowl and loss of blue leaving black on the interior sidewall decoration (probably from bleaching from tea) 4)cup 2 - wear to feathers leaving brown and blue traces, tiny rim chip to cup 5)saucers - excellent condition. A wonderful looking vintage late Victorian 1-3/8 x 1" rolled gold plated oval photo locket on a 19" book-link rolled gold plated chain. The 5/16" wide chain has different engraved designs on each side, and the locket has fine hand tooling on the reverse side. It also has an applied mount with a central pearl surrounded by six natural garnets. It is unsigned, and it has a large springring catch; the interior has two photo bezels and (replaced) plastic windows. A pair of mid-19thC ornate Meissen style covered urns. This amazing and massive pair of mid-19th century French porcelain 19" covered mantle urns were made by M.S. Claus, France. They are fully hand painted and in the Meissen style, and both are extravagantly festooned with hand-formed and applied flowers and leaves. Each is topped with a similarly decorated lid, topped with a figure of a child. The colours are bright and vivid and they have the crossed swords mark for Claus and a 1777 pattern number. Each has had some restoration - the child with the umbrella finial has a repaired and repainted base and the lid has a large firing crack (on the interior edge and not visible when on display). It also has some gold wear to the lid's rim, and the base has a large area of restoration and painting to the upper rim and a firing crack to the outer shoulder. The other urn's lid has a similar interior firing crack, and the base has a similar repair to its rim as well (which also has a crack on the repaired area). Each urn has some minor expected chipping and losses to the flowers, and this pair is in very good/reasonable condition with a good appearance, and they could be completely restored if desired. A sterling silver cherubs brush mirror & comb set 1890 to 1900. This wonderfully ornate Victorian period set consists of the 10" x 3-7/8" mirror, the 9-3/8" x 2-1/2" brush with natural bristles, and the 7-5/8" long comb. Each is hallmarked for Birmingham, England and they have the Thomas Hayes maker's mark; the brush year hallmark is 1890, the comb year hallmark is 1898 and the mirror year hallmark is 1900. It is quite normal for these sets to have slightly differing dates on the various pieces from the same firm, as they were assembled into sets for sale from existing stock, and sometimes pieces were purchased over time. All three have a script BETH monogram, and they are in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor edge denting to the brush, and the replacement of the comb with a recent plastic one and a soldered repair to the mirror at the handle/mirror join. The original bevelled mirror is in fairly good shape also, which is not always the case. An ornate Victorian SP ink stand with ink pot, drawer and pen rest 1860. A wonderful mid-Victorian silverplated ink stand with a Feb. 20, 1860 registration date. This 11-1/2 x 7-1/2" stand features a pottery inkwell in a domed lidded brass holder mounted on the deck, which also has a brass pen rest. Besides the ornate hand-engraving, it also has a copper military button mounted with a screw and bolt. The shoulders have a high relief vine and berries design and it has scroll feet. It has a sliding drawer with pen and paper compartments as well, and it has the British registration key and the PP&S maker's mark for Padley, Parking & Standforth of Sheffield, England (operating from 1855-80). This high relief early to mid-19th century 6-1/8" tall salt glazed stoneware pitcher or jug has an allegorical scene with grapes and vines; it is unsigned and it has a nice medium blue colour. A decorated 19thC copper lustre child's cann or mug. This vintage mid-19th century 2-1/2" high decorated copper luster mug features a relief beaded rim, lovely metallic copper luster, a blue band with leaf decoration and a white interior with a pink lustre interior rim. An evocative and well-painted framed 22-1/4" x 14-1/2" (sight size) English oil on canvas by Charles Cattermole (R.I., R.B.A., R.O.I. 1832–1900). Entitled "The Patrol's Return" on a mounted plaque on the 31-1/2" x 24" wood and plaster frame, this painting is signed CHAS CATTERMOLE on the lower right. The back has a Toronto gallery label from 1949 and the canvas is numbered 908 on the back. Aubrey Beardsley The Yellow Book with 3 volumes available (priced each). This is a group of three of the famous English illustrated quarterly called The Yellow Book. This late 19th century series featured art, essays, discussions, poetry and criticism. They were 8-1/4 x 7" hardbacks in yellow and featured artistic cover illustrations as well as inserted plates, including illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley and others. Offered here is Volume 1 April 1894 Second Edition, with four Beardsley illustrations as well as the cover, 272 pages (excluding end advertisements and lists). An extremely fine late 19th century natural shell cameo mounted in 12K yellow gold circa 1890. A superb sterling silver repousse locket and engraved chain dated 1884. A fine example of sumptious Victorian sterling silver craftsmanship! This 2-1/4 x 1-5/8" sterling silver photo locket has a complex design and inset rose and green gold highlights on the central flower. It has a full set of Birmingham, England silver hallmarks on the undecorated side corresponding to the year 1884, and it has an I.H maker's mark. This pendant includes the ornately hand engraved 18-1/4 x 5/8" flat-link chain necklace, which has a large springring catch. This necklace weighs 53.4 grams, and it is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses or damage except for some fine denting on the plain back, tool marks from the flattening of some dents and some identifying symbols on the interior. A Victorian 14k yellow gold diamond ring with a nice quality antique round cut diamond circa 1890-1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring features an approximately 18 point antique cut diamond in a sunken star setting (measured by gauge) with hand engraved shoulders. The ring is unmarked with the stamps having been removed when the ring band was re-hooped in the past but it tests as 14k, and the diamond has been tested also. It weighs 4.8 grams. A Victorian 14k black and white sardonyx cameo ring circa 1870s. This antique size 3-1/2 or 3.5 hand carved stone features a portrait cameo of a woman. It measures 7/16 x 5/16" across the yellow gold setting and is stamped 14 K (rubbed). It weighs 1.6 grams. A true survivor. This is a 6-3/4" x 5" double well papier-mache tea caddy with ornate decoration with a porcelain miniature c1850-60. This attractive tea caddy stands 4-1/4" high and the hinged lid lifts to reveal the twin compartments, whose lids have hand carved and decorated mother-of-pearl grips. The wells have a gray painted lining. It has conical decorated gilt brass feet and ornate hand painted polychrome and gold decoration on the lid, base and front panel. An unusual feature consists of a gilt brass mount holding a hand painted porcelain miniature of a lady on the lid. This box retains the original lock (no key), and it has some condition issues: losses to the lid's corners, some loss and darkening to areas of the decoration due to a fire which coated the box in soot, loss of gilding to the portrait's brass mount, splitting of one wood foot, some craqueleur to the black finish, damage to the hinge mounts on the lid (which is detached from the hinges). The soot was gently removed and a lot of the decoration remains - otherwise this is a survivor which can be restored. This handsome caddy is sold in as is as described condition, we do not know a restorer. A cranberry thumbprint pattern glass pickle cruet on a silver plated stand from the 1890 era. The ornate stand is 11-3/4" tall and it has a nice decorative design as does the original silver plated lid; it is stamped with the Standard Silver Co. mark, which was in business in Toronto before 1893 (they later merged with International in 1913). A TJ&J Mayer superb glazed moulded stoneware jug from the 18303s - 1850s. This wonderfully detailed and high quality glazed English high relief stoneware pitcher is 9-1/2" in height. It has a chocolate brown stippled ground on which is laid very thick allegorical scenes with palm trees in greyish coloured clay. It is known as the Paul and Virginia design. The hand-carved detail is stunning and even the handle is decorated with fronds and a stalk. The lip has two holes for the fitting of a pewter lid which was an option with these jugs - this example was never fitted. It has the stamped T.J.&J. MAYERS PATENT mark with DALE HALL POTTERY LONGPORT under the Royal Arms mark which was in use from c1843-55. It also has a No 102 18 pattern mark and the registry number for 1850. Majolica grape and vine pitcher with a pewter lid with a leaf motif, most likely for serving wine outdoors circa 1880s. It is 8-1/2" tall and hand painted in brown, blue and green colors. It is unmarked except for what looks like a 70 painted onto the bottom. Majolica is an antique form of pottery, with a great revival of interest in the 19thC. A William Armstrong RCA (1822-1914, Toronto Canada) watercolour painting of a masted sailing ship in low tide, dated 1892. Born in Dublin Ireland and trained as an engineer and draughtsman, he immigrated to Canada in 1851. His firm produced what is believed to be the first full panoramic photographic view of Toronto in 1857. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His work is represented in important collections and galleries. His Western paintings particularly are quite famous. This example appears to be tall bluffs with buildings and a beached sailing vessel. Sight size is 10" x 6-1/4" and it is loosely matted in a later 15-1/4 x 12-3/4" painted wood frame. It is signed ARMSTRONG 92 in the lower right and this artwork is in excellent condition with no tears, apparent fading, losses, damage or repairs other than a small surface deposit of some sort on the surface of the paper to the right of the mast (we haven't tried to remove it) and browning to the paper. A Victorian period 15k yellow gold, enamel & natural pearl large Victorian mourning pin c1860 with an insert with hair. This (unmarked but tested and guaranteed) 15K yellow gold brooch consists of a raised fancy scrollwork front with black enamel, a circle of high quality and lustre natural pearls surrounding a central crystal enclosed compartment with a swirl of medium-brown hair, and a polished mother of pearl backing under the nicely arranged lock of hair. It measures 2-1/2" x 2", it closes with a c-clasp with its original extended pin, and it has a loop for hanging as a pendant. The unusual mother of pearl backing has wonderful pink and green fire, and this pin weighs a substantial 37.4 grams. A large pair of European 19thC porcelain figural centerpiece swan bowls. Made as dining room table decorations with an open center for flowers, fruit, etc., these large and beautifully detailed swans are possible German in origin (both are unmarked). They measure 12-1/2" long and they stand 10" high; they are finely detailed and are in a simple white glaze. They weigh approximately 4 pounds / a bit under 2 kilograms each. They are in very good original condition with no cracks, scrapes, damage or repairs other than a loss to the right foot of one and some bottom-only small craze lines and slight loss to the left foot on the other. An unusual mid 19thC Japanese Imari 12 sided handled mug 1850. This 3-1/8" tall and 3-3/4" across the top Japanese porcelain mug features the Imari colours of red, orange, gold and blue, and it was undoubtedly made for the European market. It has the expected minor pebbling, bubbling and frit in the glaze, and it is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor wear to the gilding and a small chip to the underside interior rim, which has some underglaze stress cracks. The colours are green, teal, orange and yellow and the design is continued on the inside upper rim and spout. A quality 14k rhodolite garnet and enamel stickpin circa 1860. This large, heavy and superb 19th century stickpin is in 14k yellow gold, with a 40 point purplish pink rhodolite garnet and enamelling. The garnet is claw-set in an incised star and surrounded by an enamelled six-pointed star in cobalt enamel (more purple than in our photographs). The twisted-shaft pin measures 2-3/4" long and the head of this stickpin measures 5/8" across. It weighs an impressive 6.4 grams and the stone has been checked by a gemmologist. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, scrapes, dents, monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some old solder on the back which was added to lock the threaded shaft to the head of the pin. This decorative mantle piece measures 7-3/4" wide and it stands 7-1/4" tall; it is in the form of a boy at the seashore with waves and two shells acting as the vases. The painting and detail are superb, from the finely painted face to the realistic sand and the painted flowers on the boy's pants. This 5-1/4" high and 6-1/4" across crimped edge posey vase is in the satin finish Quilted Diamonds pattern, produced by Mt. Washington glass. This is an antique 15k yellow gold horseshoe bangle bracelet circa 1880. This Victorian equestrian or sporting bracelet is a well-made piece with a tight fitting hinge and tongue and box clasp. Note the small size and oval shape - it measures 2-1/4" x 1-7/8" across the interior (inner wall-to-wall measurement) and 1/2" across the horse shoe. It has a matte and a polished finish. This 15 K Victorian beauty hails from the period when sport and animal motif jewelry was most popular in the 19th century, which is 1870-80. It of is of typical hollow construction with a matte finish and it weighs 12.0 grams. It is stamped 15 inside the clasp, but has also been tested. A Victorian child's ironstone dinner set circa 1860 with 35 pieces. This rare and early 35 piece set is one of the most complete we have encountered, and it has many serving pieces; it has a black transfer design. It was made by Livesley Powell & Co. of Hanley, Staffordshire, England (1851-1866), with the BEST LP & Co. maker's mark found on three of the rim soup bowls only. This set includes: two 4" across the spout and handle gravy or sauce boats, six 4-1/2" dinner plates, six 3-5/8" salad plates, four 3" bread and butter plates, six 4-1/2" rim soup bowls, 4-3/8 x 3-1/2" oval open vegetable bowl (some minor browning), a set of three platters (5-5/8 x 4-1/2", 5-3/8 x 4-1/4", 4-7/8 x 3-7/8" (tight hairline resembling craze line showing on both sides)), 4-1/4" high and 4-1/2" across the handles covered round footed entree dish, a second footed entree dish without the lid, and, amazingly, the soup tureen complete with ladle, lid, bowl and underplate! The soup tureen itself consists of the 5-7/8 x 5-1/4" fitted underplate (underglaze "PRINTED" stamp on bottom), 4" across lid with ladle opening, 4-1/2" ladle with transfer design, 5-5/8" across the handles footed base (minor browning). The tureen stands 6-1/4" high, and this amazing set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs unless stated; please note that all pieces have fine overall crazing and a few have the expected very minor firing flaws found in items of this vintage.
