An early Victorian 18k Socrates carnelian intaglio signet ring. This antique size 7-3/4 or 7.75 rose gold mid-19th century ring is completely hand made. It and it features a deeply carved carnelian intaglio portrait of Socrates. It is simply executed but stylish with subtle design flourishes. It measures 7/8 x 5/8" across the bezel-set intaglio gem stone. It has a full set of stretched and now obscured hallmarks - it tests as 18K. Although the stone is a substantial size, this ring in the 18thC and 19thC worn on a gentleman's pinkie finger as a pinkie ring. In order to save gold some jewellers would stretch the shank to resize the ring rather than solder another section of gold to effect the sizing and that appears to be the case here. It weighs 8.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, it does show wear and patination commensurate with age.

A Victorian Aesthetic silver plated hot water pot by Reed & Barton 1876. This 9-1/4" tall pot is stamped with the Reed & Barton mark, the 2764 pattern number and the patent date of Feb. 1, 1876. It has fine floral high relief feet and floral bands plus hand tooling and a pebbled finish on the top panel. It has a hinged lid with a tight spout cover and the finial is a basket with flowers and it would make a fine syrup pitcher. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. This antique serving piece is truly superb, from the immaculately detailed gilded butterfly basket with a swing handle to the original cranberry glass bowl with a polished base. The three feet have fine hand engraving and most unusually each of the seven butterflies has the old English diamond registry mark incorporated into the design, not added or stamped on later. Although unsigned this is a work of superb craftsmanship and the registry number dates the design to 1869. It measures 4-1/2" across and it stands 5-3/4" tall with the handle upright. It is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, losses, damage or repairs other than a few small areas of darkening to the gilding and a couple of very tiny edge nicks to the liner. A Victorian 3 strand alpaca man's pocket watch chain with an engraved slide from the 1880-1890 era. This 12-1/4" man's accessory has a t-bar and a swivel and the decorative and fancy slide and ends all have hand engraving. The slide has a loop for a fob and a Gothic GB monogram; this chain is made of alpaca (an imitation silver) and it is also known as silveroid, German silver and other names (there is no silver content). A Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee china teapot with enamel decoration circa 1897. This scarce royalty commemorative antique teapot celebrates the Diamond Jubilee of the reign of Queen Victoria. This black glaze Jackfield style English teapot measures 9-1/4" across the handle and spout and it stands 7" tall; it has a gold coloured stencil of Victoria on one side and the commemorative legend on the other. There are also thistles, roses and shamrocks and there are hand applied enamels in orange, white and blue. An Unger Bros. 4 piece sterling silver brush, mirror and box dresser set from the 1890s. This fancy repousse sets consists of the 9-3/8 x 5" hand mirror with beveled glass, the 9 x 2-3/4" natural bristle hair brush, the 2" across round lidded pomade, salve or rouge pot or box with a gilded interior and an associated (not Unger) 3-5/8 x 1-1/8" natural bristle clothes or dress brush. Three pieces feature the Unger Brothers mark and STERLING 925 FINE and the small brush is marked STERLING 925/1000 8164. This set is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs; the large and small brushes have a minor bit of edge denting and the mirror has some moderate edge denting. A Loetz Crete Papillon 7" Czech art glass green vase 1890 1900. This period vase has the famous Papillon finish in green (Crete) and this line was introduced in 1898. It has a tapered 3-1/8" across girdle and 2-5/8" base. It is in very good condition with no cracks, wear or repairs however there is a 1/4" rim chip mostly affecting the inside of the rim with minimal impact to the outside - this vase can be ground down to eliminate the chip if you are so inclined. A Scottish sterling silver banded agate sword and shield brooch pin dated 1863. Although a common form this example is one of the most ornate and best constructed we have seen. It measures 2-3/4 x 1", the silver is deeply and intricately tooled and the cut and polished banded agates are well matched and are gray (or grey), white and blue striped. The shield is mounted by wire pins through loops on the sword back and most unusual is a hand-etched British hallmark shield with the letter and number cyphers indicating a manufacturing date of Dec. 6, 1863. This item is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a bend to the C from the original c-clasp (easily straightened). A 19th century Dutch red glass bracelet with a 14k clasp. This Victorian era 19th century 7-3/4" hand cut red glass bead four strand bracelet is complete with an unmarked but tested 14k yellow gold clasp. The beads have a rich red garnet colour and the 3/4" wide box clasp has three large faceted red glass beads. It was obtained from the estate of another similar red glass bead necklace which had Dutch gold marks, and this lovely necklace is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some expected minute edge chipping and abrasions to some of the red beads (barely noticeable) and some denting to the clasp. An antique 12k gold genuine rhodolite garnets and mine cut diamonds ring circa 1890 1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring has four genuine true red colour garnets surrounded by twenty genuine mine cut diamonds in a classic marquise shape. This Victorian period piece is unmarked, but has been tested and is confirmed to be 12 K gold. It measures just over 7/8" long and is 5/16" across the elegant marquise shaped setting and it weighs 3.0 grams. Rhodolite garnets most resembled rubies in colour, so were a desirable gem stone even in the 19thC. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This ring was a popular style at that time, sometimes all in diamonds, but mostly with a less expensive gemstone in the centre for contrast. A massive Japanese 19thC bronze jardiniere or plant holder with raised or bas-relief detail. This handsome antique signed Japanese bronze work stands 13-1/2" tall and it measures 11-1/2" across the opening. This is a large example of a classic bowl design, and it has a nice patination (appears somewhat lightened in our photographs to show detail). It features perching and flying birds and floral branches, a decorated collar with bat designs (a sign of luck and prosperity) and incised decoration. It has an applied signature planchet on the bottom, which has not yet been translated. It has some patina inside from use. It is in otherwise excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs except for a minor bend on the foot-rim. A Victorian gold filled double slide expanding gentleman's watch fob chain. This 9-1/4" (maximum) chain shrinks to 6-1/8" when the two engraved slides are separated (which contracts the chain forming a double chain between them, shown partly drawn in our second image). It has a t-bar and a swivel as well as two textured balls which act as stops for the slides. It is stamped W.LH.&Co. on the swivel and it is a neat bit of Victorian ingenuity. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. Besides being a handsome style of chain, it would also make an attractive bracelet.
