A Minton wild strawberries A2625 hand painted berry or fruit bowl dated 1866. This Victorian beauty measures 9-3/8" across and it features finely handpainted leaves, flowers and wild strawberries all in high relief. This bowl is similar to other antique Minton patterns however we haven't definitively identified it. It has the impressed MINTON mark (used from 1862-71, later MINTONS) and a date cypher resembling that used for 1866. This bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than some wear and loss to the paint on the high points of the design. This is minor and most apparent on one strawberry, a few leaves and the roots of the plants. An early English 7-3/4" high large footed comport or tazza made by Wedgwood in 1878-9. This elegant Neoclassic design table serving piece measures 12-3/4" across the two handles and features fine hand painted gilding, a black transfer design (on top and underneath the plate) and relief molding to the handles, edge and foot. It is in the Corinth pattern, which is marked in underglaze black transfer lettering, and it is impressed WEDGWOOD PEARL with GH over P, 1813 pattern number and a triangle mark. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some very minor glaze rubs to the underside of the top edge in afew spots. An early magenta transfer cup and saucer from the 1830s-1850s. This nice early example of transferware is a 2-3/8" high footed cup and matching 6" saucer with a fine magenta (purple/red) colour floral transfer with handpainted highlights. It has a painted 2/441 pattern mark and a formed fluted column design. The saucer is deep for drinking from (an 18th and 19th century custom) and it is typical for the era. This attractive item is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a small rim chip on the bottom of the saucer as well as some barely noticeable areas of glaze wear on two flowers and one flute on the cup (see enlargement). A gray transfer covered sauce dish. This early unsigned English covered footed sauce dish dates to circa 1830-50. It has classical scenes and an oak leaf border as well as sculpted handles and feet, all with gray or grey transfer decoration. It is marked only with an impressed P underneath. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, three tiny glaze flakes on the lid's rim (two at the opening for the ladle) and a pinpoint burst glaze bubble or small chip on the lid rim (see pic). A Davenport 2614 Old Imari 2451 style pattern cup and saucer from 1870-1887. This wonderful fully hand painted English bone china 2-5/8" tall cup and matching 5-5/8" saucer has lush gold, cobalt and orange decoration. The pattern was later copied by Royal Crown Derby as "Old Imari" or "Traditional Imari" (in production from 1902-2014). This scarce cup and saucer has the Davenport mark used from 1870-87 and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than a tiny 1/16" surface glaze flaw or glaze crack. The cup rings true and on the top and interior edge the flaw isn't visible through the original gilding, which was applied over the flaw at the factory. An attractive Victorian period china jardiniere, c1880s. It has a repeating somewhat Art Nouveau floral motif, the flowers look a bit like poppies or anemones, all in blue transferware with occasional splashes of gold. It measures 5-3/4" in height and the opening measures just over 5" across (opening only, does not include the wavy rim). Although it is unmarked, which happened more frequently before 1891, it is almost certainly English in origin. Except for some minor wear in a few spots to the gilding, it is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, staining, losses, damage or repairs. A decorated 19thC copper lustre child's cann or mug. This vintage mid-19th century 2-1/2" high decorated copper luster mug features a relief beaded rim, lovely metallic copper luster, a blue band with leaf decoration and a white interior with a pink lustre interior rim. It is unmarked and it has a pink lustre brush wipe on the interior, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than an overglazed flat spot on the bottom rim and some craze lines on the interior bottom only. the luster is a consistent deep rich copper colour from top to bottom, unlike in our photos which show reflection from the towel. Majolica grape and vine pitcher with a pewter lid with a leaf motif, most likely for serving wine outdoors circa 1880s. It is 8-1/2" tall and hand painted in brown, blue and green colors. It is unmarked except for what looks like a 70 painted onto the bottom. Majolica is an antique form of pottery, with a great revival of interest in the 19thC. This item is in excellent condition for its age and use, with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some overall crazing and two burst glaze bubbles (one on the handle and one on the side) as well as the expected manufacturing artifacts seen on vintage majolica. A pair of 19thC Japanese Meiji blue and white porcelain covered bowls. This fine pair consists of the 4-3/4" diameter footed bowls and their 5-1/4" covers with a rimmed foot or receptacle on the top. The covers can be placed on the rim to act as side dishes to the bowls. The hand painted blue and white design includes dragons, panels and scenes and each has hand painted gold highlights. A Royal Nippon hand painted white green & gold floral jardiniere plant pot from the 1880s. This beauty measures 8-5/8" across the handles and it stands 4-3/8" tall on its four feet. The decoration includes white flowers with a bit of orange blush on a few petals, pale green ground and a medium green band under the flowers. It is lushly decorated with applied gold and it has lots of beading. The bowl itself if lobed and the handles are forked at the top. It is typically unmarked and dates to around 1880 (items had to be marked for country of origin after 1891). It appears to never have been used for plants and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than some minor gold rubbing to the handles and the top edge. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. Both have floral hand painted designs; they have both copper and pink lustre with green leaves and flow blue decoration. They both have a painted 316 pattern number and the plate has an impressed PEARL WHITE mark. An R.A. Kidston 20" London scene United Kingdom meat platter circa 1840. This is an early Scottish large blue transferware well and tree meat platter in blue transfer. This platter stands on two bracket feet and the juice well; it is stamped R.A.K. & Co. UNITED KINGDOM LONDON for R.A. Kidston and Co. Finnieston (part of Glasgow) Scotland who used this mark from 1838-1845. The Coysh & Henrywood Blue and White Printed Pottery reference book mentions this series, but not this actual scene of London - I have never run across this pattern piece before. It is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, a bit of minor bruising to one foot rim (intact with no losses), a 5/8" edge chip and some staining (mostly on the back). An early 19thC blue saltglaze pitcher. This high relief early to mid-19th century 6-1/8" tall salt glazed stoneware pitcher or jug has an allegorical scene with grapes and vines; it is unsigned and it has a nice medium blue colour. This item is in very good condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a firing crack around the bottom of the handle (original to the firing), a chip on the upper rim (with glaze infill, possibly later) and a barely visible shallow underglaze star crack on the bottom which doesn't interrupt the glaze or go through to the interior.
