A detailed intaglio Laws Scottish family crest sterling silver seal ring from 1900-1930. This vintage size 7 ring features the family crest from the Laws family with a cockerel atop the shield and the quote from Horace (30 BCE) "COMPOSITUM JUS TASQUE ANIMI" which has various translations referring to justice, uprightness and nobility of the soul (one version states "A mind which respects alike the laws of mutual justice and of god"). It is a true seal ring, with the crest in reverse so it will appear correct on the actual seal. It is shown reversed in one of our images so you can read it. This classic gentleman's pinky ring is stamped STERLING. It has signs of an earlier resizing which likely caused the sterling mark to be barely visible in the last two letters and no maker's mark is presentand it weighs 11.8 grams. Established in 1924 this school added "District" to the name in 1953 and amalgamated in 1968 to become the John Diefenbaker Secondary School. This vintage beauty shouts Deco and it has the same silver tooling and buckle clasp as seen on signed DIAMONBAR bracelets by Wachenheimer Bros of Rhode Island (1905-1933) and this is probably an early example. The buckle itself has white rhinestones, the sides are finely and ornately engraved, the interior is cut-out and it is stamped only STERLING. This size 5-1/2 ring has a central 9/16 x 5/16" overlay gold front with a Gothic letter (an E or F, we think) with a corner hand engraved embellishment.
