An important Canadian Group of 7 oil on panel by Francis Hans - Franz or Frank - Johnston OSA, ARCA (Canadian, 1888-1949) titled "Pools of Spring". Born in Toronto, he was a founding member of the renowned Toronto painters known as the Group of Seven, which he left by 1926. He became a principal of the Winnipeg School of Art and later the Ontario College of Art. He changed his signature to "Franz" in 1927 on the advice of a friend. He was the most productive and financially successful of the Group of Seven, painting steadily until he suffered a stroke in 1948. His work shows his love of the Canadian landscape and his fascination with light. His highly sought after works are on exhibition in the McMaster Collection, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada (General Collection and War Gallery Collection), among others. This painting has a sight size of 24" x 20" and the original painted frame, which measures 31" x 26-3/4". This painting has an inscription on the back saying "POOLS of SPRING Source of the Oroman Early April by Franz Johnston A.R.C.A." and this work of art has also been authenticated in writing by a leading Toronto fine arts auction house. It is in excellent original condition with no craquelure, rips, soiling, fading, losses, damage or repairs other than a few tiny flecks to the gilt surface of the frame. An early Danecraft sterling silver lily parure set circa 1940. It consists of the 2-5/8" x 2" brooch pin with safety catch, the 16" long and 5/8" wide necklace with spring-ring catch, and the 7/8" x 5/8" pierced earrings. Each piece and link is in the form of a lily, and this set is signed with the Danecraft Sterling mark except for the earrings, which have been converted to pierced/posts (losing the marks on the screwbacks). The necklace is unfortunately laid out with the flowers facing inward - should face the other way. An ornate good quality silver plate 4 PC tea set and matching large tray. This set consists of the 5-3/4" (lip to handle) cream jug, the 8" handle to handle covered sugar bowl, the 9-1/8" high coffee pot with wood handle, and the 12" wood handle to spout teapot, together with the engraved 27-1/4" x 16" duck footed serving tray. The tea set has gadroon edges and the pieces are stamped SILVERPLATE ON COPPER SHEFFIELD REPRODUCTION with the International mark and the 1028 pattern number. The tray is stamped with OLD ENGLISH REPRODUCTION and an L BROS. maker's mark. It has a gadroon edge / similar design. A set of 3 sterling silver ducks scatter pins from the 1930s-40s. This charming vintage set of three handmade gilt sterling silver duck scatter or sweater pins have safety catches and they measure from 1-1/2" across to 1-1/4" x 1-1/8" across. They are stamped HANDMADE STERLING on the backs, no other marks, and the gilding that remains has a rose gold colour, which was very popular in the 1930s -early 1940s. The bodies and wings are layered and slightly repousse, giving the pins a nice lift and depth, and they are rather charming and slightly comical. Certainly the finest and most decorative vintage chocolate box we've come across! This is a c1930s-40s (we think) paper wrapped box with an applied print of two kittens on the top. The textured paper wrap is wallpaper thick with lush gold highlights, and this box has a gold Urney applique. The original tied ribbon is also present on this 13-3/4 x 9-3/4" box, which has the original sticker on the bottom (CHOCOLATES - 1-1/2 LB NET MANUFACTURED IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND). An unusual grouping of eight vintage 1940s moulded and hand painted hard rubber character figures. We haven't been able to identify the series or origin of this set (can you help?), and the largest, Dumbo, measures 2-1/4 x 2-1/2". Each has handpainted highlights in red and yellow and four have black painted shoes. This set includes the Mad Hatter, the Rabbit, Gepetto, Donald Duck, Dumbo, rabbit with heart, Red Queen, and Alice. A Stromberg-Carlson Model 1243 desk telephone from around 1940. This stylish, heavy black painted metal phone is 8" deep and 5-1/2" wide with a 9-1/4" long hand piece. A great display piece or suitable for use, it has been fitted with modern phone jack wiring and it has the original included schematics mounted on the inside with wiring options, etc. A few wire strands are disconnected and we couldn't get a dial tone, but we couldn't figure out the wiring scheme. It is in very good original condition with no overpainting and only minor paint scrapes and minor signs of rubbing and wear. The dial is a bit stiff, and this item is perfect for a good restoration. A Girard Perregaux 14K white gold lady's diamond manual wind wristwatch. This elegant Art Deco vintage wrist watch measures 15/16" x 1/2", and it has a a fine braided black leather strap and a full wrist size chain link guard safety chain; the case is set with two large 3 mm. across bezel set diamonds on the top of the strap loop and bottom, with 26 round cut genuine diamonds around the bezel (approximately .65 carat total weight by gauge). The inside of the case is marked J MILHENNING INC. M 14K 145594; the works are marked GIRARD-PERREGAUX & Co. GXM SWISS UNADJUSTED 52 432917 SEVENTEEN JEWELS and it has gold gears. We believe it dates to the 1930s, but it may be slightly more recent. This watch has just been overhauled by a professional watchmaker a few years ago and appears to be in excellent running order, although we are not watchmakers so cannot guarantee it. Other than some very slight darkening visible around a few of the numbers on the face, it appears to be in excellent condition. A very fine quality watch. A pair of gilt brass roses metalwork table lamps with marble bases from the 1930s 1940s. These beauties stand 25-3/4" to the tops of the original finials and the bases are genuine black veined marble. They may actually date from the 1920s and they have been rewired and resocketed. The pleated silk shades shown are later (and were on the lamps when we acquired them) and they can be included if you wish (they have minor staining/spotting) but that will raise the shipping costs substantially. The antiqued patination is intact but attractively mellowed and the metalwork could use a good, gentle cleaning. A 10k yellow gold man's opal ring from the 1940s. This size 9-1/2 ring features a natural rectangular opal with lots of green flash with an underlying orange fire. This ring measures 5/8 x 3/4" across the setting, it weighs 5.1 grams and it is stamped 10K with the maker's mark for I.B. Goodman Manufacturing Co., Inc. of Newport, Kentucky (1937-). This attractive ring is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there are some surface abrasions to the stone's face from use, a small chip to one corner and a flake on one other corner. A Birks sterling silver sauce boat with under tray dated 1946. The sauce boat measures 5" from the edge of the spout to the outer edge of the curved handle and it stands 2-1/4" tall (excluding the handle) on it's four hoof style feet. The boat has the Birks date mark for 1942 while the 5-5/8 x 3-5/8" tray bears a 1946 date stamp. This classy serving piece weighs 128.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no monograms, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs other than a few slight scratches and small, shallow dents on the boat rest part of the tray. This necklace consists of turned and hand-carved bakelite beads in oval, round and barrel forms; the colours include off-white, swirled tan, 2 colour pale green and brown. A gold plated saphiret tassels necklace from the 1930s. This superb and vintage (unsigned) gold plated brass necklace has large dramatic tassels with saphiret (or sapphiret) glass stones. This 15-1/2" gold plated brass necklace has a spring-ring clasp and it has five graduated chain and bell tassels suspended from it. The largest tassel measures 3-1/2" long and 1" across the bell; each individual tassel chain ends in a sapphiret glass stone. The farthest left and right tassels have 9 suspended chains and stones, the 2nd and 4th tassel have 11 chains and suspended stones, and the center tassel has 18 chains and suspended stones. There is also a sapphiret at the top of each tassel canopy. An outstanding Art Deco sterling silver enamel and marcasites pendant necklace circa 1930. The pendant itslf measures 2" x 1" (including enamelled bale loop). It features colorful matte enamel in of geometric flowers in lilac, yellow, orange, lime green, blue and black with various sizes of marquisites. Please note that the colors may appear several shades brighter in our pictures than they are in real life, and the blue is a light royal blue, not turquoise. It is stamped EN in a kidney-shaped cartouche and STERLING on the back - we are still researching the maker. it weighs 7.5 grams (pendant only). We were unable to find any corresponding information about this mark, at first glance it looks very much like a piece produced by the Theodor Farhner firm, who were well known for such fine matte enamel finishes and the extensive use of marquisites. It is shown with a very recent sterling silver chain which is not included. This item is in good condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion or repairs other than a visible loss to the red-orange enamel and a couple of very short surface abrasions to the blue (just visible with a loupe). A classic style English sterling silver footed 3-3/8" tall handled creamer, fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1931. It has the maker's mark of Adie Bros. Ltd. This creamer weighs 74.6 grams (2.4 troy ounces), and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A true and vintage example of period Industrial Art Deco design. This is a 16-1/2" long chrome plated .830 silver necklace featuring a carnelian glass facetted and grooved stone in the central 5/8" wide drop. It has a springring catch and is probably German or Austrian. The necklace has the famous angles, textures and repetitive elements found in true Deco design of the era and this is a fine example of the quintessential elements then in use. It weighs 7.3 grams, it is stamped 830 with an unidentified maker's mark on the jump ring, and it is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a very tiny flake on the edge of the stone (barely noticeable). An Art Deco carved Bakelite nail grooming kit with an elephant from Austria circa 1930. This period 3-5/8" x 5/8" vanity item features a carved threaded two-piece cylinder topped with an elephant figure with black glass bead eyes and traces of red colour; it is stamped AUSTRIA on the bottom. Included is the one remaining grooming tool - a cuticle pusher with bakelite handle (marked KLEIN-AUSTRIA). This item is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, losses, damage or repairs other than some surface corrosion on the steel cuticle pusher.
