A true rarity. This is a hand-carved marbled Bakelite plastic perfume bottle pin or brooch c1930s. This pin consists of a block of amber Bakelite with swirls of black, red, green and other colours resembling burled wood. An 18k Victorian 5 pearls row engagement ring from the 1880s 1890. This antique size 5 ring features a row of five genuine pearls which in Victorian times meant fidelity, love, loyalty and purity. These were the wedding fashion before the diamond engagement ring came into vogue and this example tests as a minimum of 18 k gold (the marks are obscured and it may be as high as 22 carat). It measures 3/4" along the pearls setting and it weighs 4.5 grams. An Art Deco period 14k white and yellow gold filigree diamonds ring circa 1920s. This vintage size 5-3/4 or 5.75 ring is in a filigree or basket weave design, and the diamonds are genuine, and are antique round brilliant cut measuring a total of approximately 22-23 points (approximate by gauge). This ring measures 5/8" x 5/16" across the white gold top, and it weighs 2.3 grams. A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some indenting to two feet on each of the interiors of the mustard and salt pieces, and slight denting on bugs. An R.A. Kidston 20" London scene United Kingdom meat platter circa 1840. This is an early Scottish large blue transferware well and tree meat platter in blue transfer. This platter stands on two bracket feet and the juice well; it is stamped R.A.K. & Co. UNITED KINGDOM LONDON for R.A. Kidston and Co. Finnieston (part of Glasgow) Scotland who used this mark from 1838-1845. The Coysh & Henrywood Blue and White Printed Pottery reference book mentions this series, but not this actual scene of London - I have never run across this pattern piece before. It is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, a bit of minor bruising to one foot rim (intact with no losses), a 5/8" edge chip and some staining (mostly on the back). A 800 solid hand engraved Italian lidded canister or box circa 1930-35. This lovely silver item is gilded on the interior and it has a lobed design with ornate floral engraving. It could possibly have been for cigarettes, although similar items were also prodiced to hold sugar or tea. It is stamped 800 MILANO and A RONCHI on the bottom. The jewellery firm August Ronchi opened in Milan, Italy in 1929 - this firm sells mostly high end jewellery and watches, but has also produced lovely quality silver items in the past. An S Kirk and Sons sterling silver repousse nut serving bowl and matching spoon. The 6-1/2" diameter bowl and 5-1/4" long spoon both have the high-relief floral repousse work this quality American silver firm was known for. It is on on the bowl's rim and on the spoon handle and in the bowl, which also has a relief scene of fruit including pineapple, grape, apple and strawberry. The spoon's bowl measures 2" across. Both pieces have a fancy S monogram, and each is stamped S. KIRK & SON STERLING. The pattern number 409 is on the bottom of the bowl. A 19th c. hand painted toleware large tray. This decorative, vintage and stunning handpainted and signed large toleware display or serving tray dates to around 1860. This 24-3/8 x 19-3/4" painted metal tray features a large central basket of colourful and varied flowers; it has a floreate stepped edge and the G. J. Rudolph artist's signature. We have been unable to get any information on this artist, however the painting is superb. An antique embroidered silk with cotton back bed hanging or valance from the Xuantong era in the late Qing period 1908 - 1912. This beautiful fringed antique valance has fine embroidery, including gold thread and multi-color silk thread depicting flowers, butterflies, fish, people and many other symbolic figures and images, with fine short and long stitch embroidery and extraordinarily fine seed stitching. It is mounted on a pinkish cotton backing and it has a fine 7" fringe and edge netting. There are some black silk embroidered characters with the Xuantong era date. It has sewn red loops on the back of the fringe edge for the suspension of some article(s) and the top has a sewn fold for hanging much like a curtain-on-rod. The fabric section measures 81-1/2" x 18-1/2 inches. These fine embroideries were usually made to add to the bed of the newly married couple by the bride or her family. This item is in mostly excellent vintage condition with no tears, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor soiling to the cotton backing and some traces of thumbtacks from previous hangings and slight wear. A stunning hand painted Art Nouveau porcelain centerpiece 1890 1900. This true Nouveau table decoration is likely German or Austrian. This 14-1/4" tall and 10-1/4" wide decorative item would look good on the table or on the mantlepiece. Constructed of two pieces, the bowl and base, it has a figure on a column in the center of the lower bowl, which has finely molded openwork flowing handles. All parts of this display piece are fully handpainted, from the finely detailed face to the fine gold highlights. The finish is mostly matte, with the interiors, body of the figure and central panel in a gloss surface. The interiors of the bowls have a lustre finish. The bowl attaches to the base column with a brass cylindrical mount and sleeve, and this ornate piece is unmarked. The condition of this item is remarkable - it has survived completely intact with no wear, losses or any damage whatsoever over the last 110 or so years. An ornate Victorian SP ink stand with ink pot, drawer and pen rest 1860. A wonderful mid-Victorian silverplated ink stand with a Feb. 20, 1860 registration date. This 11-1/2 x 7-1/2" stand features a pottery inkwell in a domed lidded brass holder mounted on the deck, which also has a brass pen rest. Besides the ornate hand-engraving, it also has a copper military button mounted with a screw and bolt. The shoulders have a high relief vine and berries design and it has scroll feet. It has a sliding drawer with pen and paper compartments as well, and it has the British registration key and the PP&S maker's mark for Padley, Parking & Standforth of Sheffield, England (operating from 1855-80). A quality late 19thC 750 silver jug with baronial crests by J Wagner and Sohn ( Son ) Germany. This antique 5-1/4" tall cream pitcher has a wrythen or twisted groove style and a thumb rest as well as classic hoof shape feet. It is stamped J. A Georgian sterling silver large footed master salt dish dated 1817. This simply splendid high quality English Georgian silver open salt dish is fully hallmarked for London 1817. This 3-5/8" diameter and 1-7/8" high bowl has fine high relief and rather unusual rim decoration of a lion head alternating with a shell, surrounded by flowers, with ornate floral feet. It retains the original gilding on the bowl as well. It is stamped with the maker's mark for William Elliot or William Eaton of London. It weighs an impressive 162.6 grams. It has a small lion rampant family crest engraving on one shoulder (not shown). One of the largest and most unusual Georgian silver open salts we have seen. An unusual mid 19thC Japanese Imari 12 sided handled mug 1850. This 3-1/8" tall and 3-3/4" across the top Japanese porcelain mug features the Imari colours of red, orange, gold and blue, and it was undoubtedly made for the European market. It has the expected minor pebbling, bubbling and frit in the glaze, and it is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor wear to the gilding and a small chip to the underside interior rim, which has some underglaze stress cracks. A very rare set of (probably) English 9-7/8" plates in a variant of the original Blue Willow pattern. We haven't been able to accurately identify this pattern with its distinctive border butterflies in our books, however they are definitely Georgian. The porcelain is the expected light gray and the decoration is slightly blurred and each plate has the expected frit and minor variations from the manufacture of these items. It is quite unusual to find a matched set of four of these plates and one has a partial gold seal from the British Antique Dealer Association (B.A.D.A.) which guaranteed that the plates were over 100 years old at the time of sale (many decades ago). A quality 14k rhodolite garnet and enamel stickpin circa 1860. This large, heavy and superb 19th century stickpin is in 14k yellow gold, with a 40 point purplish pink rhodolite garnet and enamelling. The garnet is claw-set in an incised star and surrounded by an enamelled six-pointed star in cobalt enamel (more purple than in our photographs). The twisted-shaft pin measures 2-3/4" long and the head of this stickpin measures 5/8" across. It weighs an impressive 6.4 grams and the stone has been checked by a gemmologist. A Martin Hall Victorian English silver plated meat dome. This 12-1/4" x 9-3/8" meat dome or cover was made by Martin, Hall & Co. of Sheffield, England (1854-1934). This table serving piece features a bolted and pegged finial with a wing nut and it stands 8-3/4" high. It is stamped 1127 EPNS with the maker's mark, and it is in excellent condition with no monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than one small penpoint protruberant dent and a nearby shallow penpoint dent. The plating is completely intact and this dome is in superb condition. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design.
