All Items : Antiques : Decorative Art : Ceramics : English : Pre 1900 item #947157 (stock #6304)
A Staffordshire figurine of a goatherd girl on a goat circa 1930 1850. This antique English figure dates to the early to mid quarter of the 19thC. She is hand painted painted fully on front, sides and back. 1830s -1860. It is a fine looking and well painted example reflecting the 19th century Victorian romanticism about farm and rural life with the advancing age of industrialism. People who lived on farms at the time would have found the concept of a girl riding a goat after gathering a basket of fruit possibly a little odd or possibly amusing. Meissen produced a pair of figurines of a tailor and his wife riding goats in the 18thC - possibly this figure was inspired by that. It measures 7 1/2" in height and is 5 1/2" at the widest. It is in mostly excellent condition except for one detail - the tip of the girl's foot is chipped. Other than that, it is in exceptional shape - no cracks, crazing or repairs, and the paint in in excellent shape. There is a firing crack on the back of the girl's neck, but it is original to the manufacture of the piece, and does not detract. We haven't been able as yet to find which English Staffordshire maker produced this. This figurine is unsigned, as were most figurines. Condition details are noted; items will have signs of use as expected. Condition issues are noted; items are antique and may have signs of use.

All Items : Vintage Arts : Decorative Art : Ceramics : English : Pottery : Pre 1960 item #1328732 (stock #7191)
A Moorcroft art pottery 5-7/8" vase in the Anemone pattern in the flambe line. This vase was produced 1947-53 period. This vintage example is stamped MOORCROFT MADE IN ENGLAND with Walter Moorcroft's monogram underglaze signature and cypher. Walter Moorcroft worked at Moorcroft from a young age, and took over after the death of William Moorcoft in 1945. Moorcroft pottery constantly explored different glazes even with their more popular patterns - the flambe is an interesting brown-orange colour. Pre 1960s Moorcroft still shows the fine quality hand painting with subtle shading in the leaves and flowers, and is understandably more popular with Moorcroft collectors. Flambe pieces are much less common than the blue or green background Moorcroft. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some overall crazing. This vase is vintge and signs of age and use must be expected.

All Items : Estate Jewelry : Gold : Victorian : Pre 1900 item #1350683 (stock #9504)
An 18k Victorian 5 pearls row engagement ring from the 1880s 1890. This antique size 5 ring features a row of five genuine pearls which in Victorian times meant fidelity, love, loyalty and purity. These were the wedding fashion before the diamond engagement ring came into vogue and this example tests as a minimum of 18 k gold (the marks are obscured and it may be as high as 22 carat). It measures 3/4" along the pearls setting and it weighs 4.5 grams. Other than some signs of use it is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the replacement of one pearl which has some edge losses and a slightly different colour than the rest (it can be easily replaced if you wish). All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $25 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some indenting to two feet on each of the interiors of the mustard and salt pieces, and slight denting on bugs. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $21 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. An R.A. Kidston 20" London scene United Kingdom meat platter circa 1840. This is an early Scottish large blue transferware well and tree meat platter in blue transfer. This platter stands on two bracket feet and the juice well; it is stamped R.A.K. & Co. UNITED KINGDOM LONDON for R.A. Kidston and Co. Finnieston (part of Glasgow) Scotland who used this mark from 1838-1845. The Coysh & Henrywood Blue and White Printed Pottery reference book mentions this series, but not this actual scene of London - I have never run across this pattern piece before. It is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, a bit of minor bruising to one foot rim (intact with no losses), a 5/8" edge chip and some staining (mostly on the back). A nice survivor from c1840. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. A very rare set of (probably) English 9-7/8" plates in a variant of the original Blue Willow pattern. We haven't been able to accurately identify this pattern with its distinctive border butterflies in our books, however they are definitely Georgian. The porcelain is the expected light gray and the decoration is slightly blurred and each plate has the expected frit and minor variations from the manufacture of these items. It is quite unusual to find a matched set of four of these plates and one has a partial gold seal from the British Antique Dealer Association (B.A.D.A.) which guaranteed that the plates were over 100 years old at the time of sale (many decades ago). They are unsigned and are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a 5/8" loss to the surface glaze on the rim of one plate only. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use as would be expected. Silver and silver plated items are hand-polished, not buffed, and our halogens and magnified images may exaggerate otherwise barely noticeable scratches and flaws.
