This necklace consists of turned and hand-carved bakelite beads in oval, round and barrel forms; the colours include off-white, swirled tan, 2 colour pale green and brown. Most beads have variable colour layers and stripes, and the between triple disc striped spacers are all one piece. A Birks 14K gold charm bracelet with 7 different 14k or 18K figural charms circa 1930s and possibly later. The bracelet itself is 7-1/2" long and the loops are 1/4" at widest. The charms are:
- an 18k gold ladies figure skate with a white painted enamel except for the skate inner flap, which is red. About 1/5 of the enamel is worn, otherwise quite intact. 3/4" x 5/8".
- a moveable 18k Italian Commedia dell'Arte sad clown figure. He is not always shown with the pointed cap, and the face is a bird mask. Modern versions of this figure rarely show that cap, now it is usually a rounded one. His arms and legs move freely. The large round raised dots are meant to represent his oversized pompoms. 1-3/8" tall.
- a 14k Spanish bullfighter/toreador with cape and bull. 7/8" tall.
- an 18k Venetian gondola boat with gondolier figure. 1-1/8" length.
an 18k donkey or pack animal with harness and saddle. 3/4" x 1/2" tall
- a 14k horn - it is either an older bugle horn or a traditional hunting horn. 3/4" x 1/2". (585 mark).
- an 18k bucket with handle containing a champagne bottle (European hallmarks, possibly French). 3/4" tall.
The bracelet is stamped BIRKS and 14Kt on one side. The charms are all stamped on the charms or on the attached loops.
