This opulent yellow gold award comprises the brooch pin and hanging award shield on a navy blue grosgrain ribbon. The pin is engraved "HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION 1921" and the medallion has "WEST YORK" on the front and "FIRST HONORS S.S. # 32 DORIS COLEMAN" on the reverse. West York was the name of an area of Toronto and SS #32 was Baby Point school opened in 1915. Also known as Humbercrest Public School at 14 St. Marks Road, York, Ontario, this award would have been given to the student with the sectional school's highest academic ranking. this ornate, attractive award weighs an impressive 14.6 grams and the pin has the Ontario, Canada beaver and maple leaf emblems.
