A Sevres style hand painted portrait plate from the 19thC signed Amblet. This late 19thC cabinet or display plate is 9-5/8" across and it features fine gilding, a scalloped edge with high relief gilt vines with a pink ground and a beautiful signed free hand painted central portrait of a pretty young woman picking flowers. The plate has the genuine three part Sevres marks, which include the Louis Philippe 1844 mark (this mark actually dates to the late 19th century), the Chateau de Tuileries wreath and the S. 37 in lozenge year date. The portrait is signed F. Amblet, and this fine example of vintage French porcelain is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a very slight touch of wear to the gold on the ribs where they enter the painted scene. This is an assortment of hand painted over transfer French dinnerware pieces in the Moss Rose pattern, made by Haviland Limoges c1871. Made by many firms over many years, this collection was made by Haviland & Co. Limoges, France. All pieces are stamped with the H&Co. or H&Co/L mark; the entree dishes have an impressed English registry mark (for 1871) plus an underglaze impressed H & Co. It is probable that Haviland purchased the blanks from an English firm for decoration and sale to the English market. All serving pieces have maritime or rope twist handles. A group of four hand painted German porcelain cups and saucers by Helena Wolfsohn c1870s-80s. Each has fine floral decoration with garlands and gold trim and highlights, both inside and out. Each has a blue ground and all have the blue Wolfsohn backstamp (crowned D over Hand painted Dresden Saxony). One has "Handgemalt" instead of handpainted, and all have the gold rose overstamp. The cups stand 2" high and the saucers are 5-7/8" across, and each saucer also is stamped with a retailer stamp. A decorated 19thC copper lustre child's cann or mug. This vintage mid-19th century 2-1/2" high decorated copper luster mug features a relief beaded rim, lovely metallic copper luster, a blue band with leaf decoration and a white interior with a pink lustre interior rim. It is unmarked and it has a pink lustre brush wipe on the interior, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than an overglazed flat spot on the bottom rim and some craze lines on the interior bottom only. the luster is a consistent deep rich copper colour from top to bottom, unlike in our photos which show reflection from the towel. Majolica grape and vine pitcher with a pewter lid with a leaf motif, most likely for serving wine outdoors circa 1880s. It is 8-1/2" tall and hand painted in brown, blue and green colors. It is unmarked except for what looks like a 70 painted onto the bottom. Majolica is an antique form of pottery, with a great revival of interest in the 19thC. This item is in excellent condition for its age and use, with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some overall crazing and two burst glaze bubbles (one on the handle and one on the side) as well as the expected manufacturing artifacts seen on vintage majolica. A pair of 19thC Japanese Meiji blue and white porcelain covered bowls. This fine pair consists of the 4-3/4" diameter footed bowls and their 5-1/4" covers with a rimmed foot or receptacle on the top. The covers can be placed on the rim to act as side dishes to the bowls. The hand painted blue and white design includes dragons, panels and scenes and each has hand painted gold highlights. A Royal Nippon hand painted white green & gold floral jardiniere plant pot from the 1880s. This beauty measures 8-5/8" across the handles and it stands 4-3/8" tall on its four feet. The decoration includes white flowers with a bit of orange blush on a few petals, pale green ground and a medium green band under the flowers. It is lushly decorated with applied gold and it has lots of beading. The bowl itself if lobed and the handles are forked at the top. It is typically unmarked and dates to around 1880 (items had to be marked for country of origin after 1891). It appears to never have been used for plants and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than some minor gold rubbing to the handles and the top edge. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. An Ironstone tea or tobacco leaf teapot and 8 petit four plates 1860s. A matching English ironstone 8-3/8" tall teapot and eight 4-5/8" petit four plates, all with a tea or tobacco leaf variant in gold with gold trim. The teapot has some relief design on the feet and near the top, and the petit four plates have twelve sides. These items date to the 1860s, and they are in excellent condition with no cracks, losses, repairs or damage other than some overall crazing to the teapot and 3 plates, one plate with a chip to the bottom rim, one with a factory overglazed rim chip, and two with minor staining and crazing. A Staffordshire figurine of a goatherd girl on a goat circa 1930 1850. This antique English figure dates to the early to mid quarter of the 19thC. She is hand painted painted fully on front, sides and back. 1830s -1860. It is a fine looking and well painted example reflecting the 19th century Victorian romanticism about farm and rural life with the advancing age of industrialism. People who lived on farms at the time would have found the concept of a girl riding a goat after gathering a basket of fruit possibly a little odd or possibly amusing. Meissen produced a pair of figurines of a tailor and his wife riding goats in the 18thC - possibly this figure was inspired by that. It measures 7 1/2" in height and is 5 1/2" at the widest. It is in mostly excellent condition except for one detail - the tip of the girl's foot is chipped. Other than that, it is in exceptional shape - no cracks, crazing or repairs, and the paint in in excellent shape. There is a firing crack on the back of the girl's neck, but it is original to the manufacture of the piece, and does not detract.We haven't been able as yet to find which English Staffordshire maker produced this. A pair of English Imari lustre jugs from the 1830s. This decorative unmarked pair of early to mid 19thC English jugs or pitchers is in the Imari colours with pink Sunderland luster. The largest is 8" tall and the smaller is 7"; both have embossed decoration and are hand painted. These jugs are in excellent condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs except for some minor glaze flakes and craze lines on the upper rim of the larger jug, some allover crazing on the smaller jug, a couple of straight-line craze lines on the smaller one that don't appear on the external side of the piece, and some very minor spots of wear to the decoration. An attractive Victorian period china jardiniere, c1880s. It has a repeating somewhat Art Nouveau floral motif, the flowers look a bit like poppies or anemones, all in blue transferware with occasional splashes of gold. It measures 5-3/4" in height and the opening measures just over 5" across (opening only, does not include the wavy rim). Although it is unmarked, which happened more frequently before 1891, it is almost certainly English in origin. Except for some minor wear in a few spots to the gilding, it is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, staining, losses, damage or repairs. A pair of mid-19thC ornate Meissen style covered urns. This amazing and massive pair of mid-19th century French porcelain 19" covered mantle urns were made by M.S. Claus, France. They are fully hand painted and in the Meissen style, and both are extravagantly festooned with hand-formed and applied flowers and leaves. Each is topped with a similarly decorated lid, topped with a figure of a child. The colours are bright and vivid and they have the crossed swords mark for Claus and a 1777 pattern number. Each has had some restoration - the child with the umbrella finial has a repaired and repainted base and the lid has a large firing crack (on the interior edge and not visible when on display). It also has some gold wear to the lid's rim, and the base has a large area of restoration and painting to the upper rim and a firing crack to the outer shoulder. The other urn's lid has a similar interior firing crack, and the base has a similar repair to its rim as well (which also has a crack on the repaired area). Each urn has some minor expected chipping and losses to the flowers, and this pair is in very good/reasonable condition with a good appearance, and they could be completely restored if desired. A 19thC china child with doll in washtub figurine. This unusual and well made hand painted late 19th century porcelain figural whimsey or decorative figure is of a girl holding a Pierrot doll over a washtub. This European 3-5/8" across and 3-3/4" high figurine has gold trim and fine handpainting; it is unsigned except for a 2219 (or 2279) and a 49 stamped on the bottom. This item is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some paint scrapes to the hat, a shallow chip or flake under the hat's rim (just visible to the left in the pictures) and some minor gold loss. A 7-1/2" German or Austrian porcelain hand painted figurine of a bugler. This mid to late 19th century figure features fine hand painting with gold, orange, blue, tan and realistic flesh colours; it is in a style similar to Heubach figures, but many European factories of this period were producing such figures, and it has a shiny rather than matte glaze. It is unsigned except for a painted XX, and it is in very good original condition with no chips, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a tight crack on the base at the back and some gilt wear. There are original glazed firing cracks at the elbows, right front leg and hat at the thigh, but these are original to the manufacture of the piece, not later damage.
