An attractive 19th century Victorian art glass basket. This unsigned 8-3/4" high quality basket features a ruffled-edge custard glass body with clear cranberry glass edging; the clear naturalistic glass handles resemble crossed branches (one has two spurs). The pontil is polished. It has a nice fiery glow when back-lit, and this Victorian art glass piece is in excellent original condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs. The ends of the handles have a bit of roughness - quite minor and does not detract. A fine quality two piece antique Gorham sterling string holder, made by Gorham 1890-1900. This lovely string holder weighs 3 ounces, and its pierced design allows you to see if you will soon need more string. It measures 3-1/4" in diameter and it stands 3-1/4" in height. It has the Gorham maker's mark with STERLING B1294 on the bottom, and this item is in excellent condition, with no monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage; there is a tiny dent on the bottom. An unusual find for your silver or string holder collection, and would also work well for pot-pourri. A vintage Mt. Washington Quilted Diamonds huge rose bowl. This true vintage Victorian cased glass rose bowl is in attractive aqua blue and it dates around 1890. This 5-1/4" high and 6-1/4" across crimped edge posey vase is in the satin finish Quilted Diamonds pattern, produced by Mt. Washington glass. This IS NOT a reproduction, but the real thing, as can be seen in our pictures, which show the soft irridescent design. A Martin Hall Victorian English silver plated meat dome. This 12-1/4" x 9-3/8" meat dome or cover was made by Martin, Hall & Co. of Sheffield, England (1854-1934). This table serving piece features a bolted and pegged finial with a wing nut and it stands 8-3/4" high. It is stamped 1127 EPNS with the maker's mark, and it is in excellent condition with no monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than one small penpoint protruberant dent and a nearby shallow penpoint dent. The plating is completely intact and this dome is in superb condition. A Sevres style hand painted portrait plate from the 19thC signed Amblet. This late 19thC cabinet or display plate is 9-5/8" across and it features fine gilding, a scalloped edge with high relief gilt vines with a pink ground and a beautiful signed free hand painted central portrait of a pretty young woman picking flowers. The plate has the genuine three part Sevres marks, which include the Louis Philippe 1844 mark (this mark actually dates to the late 19th century), the Chateau de Tuileries wreath and the S. 37 in lozenge year date. The portrait is signed F. Amblet, and this fine example of vintage French porcelain is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a very slight touch of wear to the gold on the ribs where they enter the painted scene. An early 19thC blue saltglaze pitcher. This high relief early to mid-19th century 6-1/8" tall salt glazed stoneware pitcher or jug has an allegorical scene with grapes and vines; it is unsigned and it has a nice medium blue colour. This item is in very good condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a firing crack around the bottom of the handle (original to the firing), a chip on the upper rim (with glaze infill, possibly later) and a barely visible shallow underglaze star crack on the bottom which doesn't interrupt the glaze or go through to the interior. A pair of early Staffordshire figurines of eagles on vermicular or marble painted bases from 1820-1850. These well modelled heavily gilded 19thC English earthenware eagles are 7-3/4" tall. Both have tilted heads and back-stretched wings. They have purple, yellow and orange marble-like painting on the simple rectangular shape bases. The mustard yellow rocky perches have a blue flower. They not signed with a manufacturer's stamp, unfortunately fairly common with Staffordshire figures. They are in very good, but not undamaged condition. One is undamaged with only a firing crack, which is original to the manufacture of the figurines (see image), and the other has had the lower portion of one wing and the head re-glued. Some wear to the gilding. The breaks and repair are quite clean and it could be restored professionally. The only pair of Staffordshire eagles I have owned in over 40 years selling antiques. The firing crack is very small with only small expected disturbances (including slight browning to the beak of one eagle) which don't detract from the appeal of these unusual figurines. They are all the same size (8" in length and 1 1/16" at the widest), they average 75 grams each, and all have what appears to be a beaver rampant crest. The maker is the same - RG - who may possibly be either R. Green or R. Grierson of Edinburgh. They are all in excellent condition with no worn spots, pitting or damage, & none have been initialled. A Royal Worcester 6-1/4" face or mask jug with gold made in 1897. This exquisitely detailed jug has superb hand applied gold decoration in the form of wild daisies with yellow and reddish centers along with wild grasses. The gold is thickly applied with ridges and jewelling and the ornate handle is gold as well. The mask or face on the spout is crisp and detailed and this jug has the Grainger Royal Worcester China Works mark with the G year code for 1897. The creamy satin finish glaze is quite attractive and this jug or pitcher has a 328 pattern or shape number. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs. A Minton wild strawberries A2625 hand painted berry or fruit bowl dated 1866. This Victorian beauty measures 9-3/8" across and it features finely handpainted leaves, flowers and wild strawberries all in high relief. This bowl is similar to other antique Minton patterns however we haven't definitively identified it. It has the impressed MINTON mark (used from 1862-71, later MINTONS) and a date cypher resembling that used for 1866. This bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than some wear and loss to the paint on the high points of the design. This is minor and most apparent on one strawberry, a few leaves and the roots of the plants. An E.J.D. Bodley Bamboo pattern trivet dated 1879. This 6-3/4" hexagonal shaped English bone china trivet was produced by E J D Bodley of Burslem, England. This plate has high relief bamboo decoration with a green border and thickly applied gold highlights; it has the English registry mark for a manufacture date of 1879 (this Bodley mark was used from 1875-92). It is stamped BODLEY B E.J.D.B Y3570 on the back, and this dinnerware item is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs. A Staffordshire figurine of a goatherd girl on a goat circa 1930 1850. This antique English figure dates to the early to mid quarter of the 19thC. She is hand painted painted fully on front, sides and back. 1830s -1860. It is a fine looking and well painted example reflecting the 19th century Victorian romanticism about farm and rural life with the advancing age of industrialism. People who lived on farms at the time would have found the concept of a girl riding a goat after gathering a basket of fruit possibly a little odd or possibly amusing. Meissen produced a pair of figurines of a tailor and his wife riding goats in the 18thC - possibly this figure was inspired by that. It measures 7 1/2" in height and is 5 1/2" at the widest. It is in mostly excellent condition except for one detail - the tip of the girl's foot is chipped. Other than that, it is in exceptional shape - no cracks, crazing or repairs, and the paint in in excellent shape. There is a firing crack on the back of the girl's neck, but it is original to the manufacture of the piece, and does not detract.We haven't been able as yet to find which English Staffordshire maker produced this. A pair of English Imari lustre jugs from the 1830s. This decorative unmarked pair of early to mid 19thC English jugs or pitchers is in the Imari colours with pink Sunderland luster. The largest is 8" tall and the smaller is 7"; both have embossed decoration and are hand painted. A Canton enamel squash blossom jewel or trinket box from the 1880s 1890s. This lovely and large Chinese enamel on metal box measures 4-1/2 x 3-1/2" and it stands 2-3/4" high on its foot rim. It is nicely worked with a fine life-like appearance and the hand applied enamel is in yellow, green and blue. The interior is light blue as is the underside. A stunning Nippon 3 pc. hand painted tea set 1880-90. This set consists of the 6-1/4" tall teapot, the 5" high two-handled covered sugar bowl and the 4-1/2" high creamer. The painting is exquisite as you would expect of high quality Nippon, with colourful flowers and copious gold highlights with beading. The ground is a mottled agate and the whole body of the set is covered with decoration. This embossed pair of 19th century salt cellars are 2" in diameter and they feature floral embossing and scalloped rims; they are stamped with the lion/anchor/G Gorham mark, STERLING, 2235 (pattern number) with the Gorham 1889 year mark. The pair of 2-1/8" long sterling silver salt spoons also have the Gorham old hallmark with STERLING, and they are in the Colonial pattern by Gorham, which was introduced in 1885. A pair of German 800 silver viande serving forks in the original box. This elegant and high quality pair of 800 silver German 8" viande or meat serving forks are in their original fitted box and they date to the 1900 1910 era. These forks are stamped 800 with the crown and eagle mark (Frankfurt, pre-1888), most likely produced by Bruckmann and Sohne (1805-1973). The forks are an interesting combiation of elegant Neoclassic revival design paired with the elements of Jugendstil - note the graceful and simple fork shape and crisp design to the ends of the handle. The 9" x 3-1/2" box is a tan coloured watered silk with a Greek key border and bronze coloured fittings with a patterned silk interior lid and cotton fitted platform with twisted cord trim. The forks weigh a substantial 83 grams, and they have traces of the original gilding. Lovely quality silver. A stunning hand painted Art Nouveau porcelain centerpiece 1890 1900. This true Nouveau table decoration is likely German or Austrian. This 14-1/4" tall and 10-1/4" wide decorative item would look good on the table or on the mantlepiece. A wonderful antique decorative pair of oval ornate Victorian period sterling silver bowls or baskets, fully hallmarked London, England 1895-96. These high style late Victorian dishes measure 6-3/4" x 5", and are just over 1" deep. They have high relief repousse Gothic designs and pierce-work panels, and they have a W.R.C. maker's mark for William Richard Corke. There is also a British registry number stamped in the rim of both bowls - it looks like RD. 248864. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. A pair of mid-19thC ornate Meissen style covered urns. This amazing and massive pair of mid-19th century French porcelain 19" covered mantle urns were made by M.S. Claus, France. They are fully hand painted and in the Meissen style, and both are extravagantly festooned with hand-formed and applied flowers and leaves. Each is topped with a similarly decorated lid, topped with a figure of a child. The colours are bright and vivid and they have the crossed swords mark for Claus and a 1777 pattern number. Each has had some restoration - the child with the umbrella finial has a repaired and repainted base and the lid has a large firing crack (on the interior edge and not visible when on display). It also has some gold wear to the lid's rim, and the base has a large area of restoration and painting to the upper rim and a firing crack to the outer shoulder. The other urn's lid has a similar interior firing crack, and the base has a similar repair to its rim as well (which also has a crack on the repaired area). An ornate Victorian SP ink stand with ink pot, drawer and pen rest 1860. A wonderful mid-Victorian silverplated ink stand with a Feb. 20, 1860 registration date. This 11-1/2 x 7-1/2" stand features a pottery inkwell in a domed lidded brass holder mounted on the deck, which also has a brass pen rest. Besides the ornate hand-engraving, it also has a copper military button mounted with a screw and bolt. The shoulders have a high relief vine and berries design and it has scroll feet. A 7-1/2" German or Austrian porcelain hand painted figurine of a bugler. This mid to late 19th century figure features fine hand painting with gold, orange, blue, tan and realistic flesh colours; it is in a style similar to Heubach figures, but many European factories of this period were producing such figures, and it has a shiny rather than matte glaze. This is a genuine English sterling silver William IV teapot fully hallmarked for London, England 1837. This table serving piece measures 11-1/4" from spout to handle and it has a wonderful bolt-mounted floral finial. It has fine leaf and flower repousse decoration throughout and it stands on four fancy feet. It has the maker's mark for the respected English silversmith firm of Edward, Edward Jr., John and W. Barnard and it weighs an impressive 810 grams. A Georgian sterling silver large footed master salt dish dated 1817. This simply splendid high quality English Georgian silver open salt dish is fully hallmarked for London 1817. This 3-5/8" diameter and 1-7/8" high bowl has fine high relief and rather unusual rim decoration of a lion head alternating with a shell, surrounded by flowers, with ornate floral feet. It retains the original gilding on the bowl as well. It is stamped with the maker's mark for William Elliot or William Eaton of London. It weighs an impressive 162.6 grams. It has a small lion rampant family crest engraving on one shoulder (not shown). One of the largest and most unusual Georgian silver open salts we have seen. A Georgian English hand painted Imari dessert dish or platter circa 1800 1820. This 11-1/4" x 7-1/4" unmarked bowl features gold, orange, cobalt, teal, green and purple painted floral designs. Although it lacks an indent, it is possible that this is the platter that went beneath a tureen. It is 1-3/4" deep at the deepest point, so we are also calling it a s dish or shallow bowl. We have so far been unable to identify the manufacturer or pattern, but it is entirely consistent with English late 18th to early 19th century manufacture. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor wear to some of the gold. A very rare set of (probably) English 9-7/8" plates in a variant of the original Blue Willow pattern. We haven't been able to accurately identify this pattern with its distinctive border butterflies in our books, however they are definitely Georgian. The porcelain is the expected light gray and the decoration is slightly blurred and each plate has the expected frit and minor variations from the manufacture of these items. It is quite unusual to find a matched set of four of these plates and one has a partial gold seal from the British Antique Dealer Association (B.A.D.A.) which guaranteed that the plates were over 100 years old at the time of sale (many decades ago). They are unsigned and are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a 5/8" loss to the surface glaze on the rim of one plate only. A rare Georgian whiskey barrel figural string holder. This superb, unusual vintage Georgian whiskey or ale cask figural string holder is from the 1800-30 era. String was a valuable and useful item in the Georgian home, and this holder could also have held embroidery thread for sewing. Made of beautifully figured rosewood with a great patina and trimmed with gilt brass bands held with hand made nails, this string dispenser has a detailed brass spigot through which the string emerges. There is a mounted steel cutting blade in the form of the spigot's handle, and the whole barrel sits on a rosewood plinth. The workmanship is superb, and it has remnants of a velvet-covered bottom. The base measures 3-7/8" x 2-7/8" and it stands 3-1/2" high. Made for a well-to-do household, this holder is in excellent original condition with no corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some age shrinkage of the wood causing the brass bands to sit a bit above the wood surface, some minor loss to the gilding and some minor age cracks to the rosewood base. A William IV sterling silver vinaigrette made by Thomas Shaw of Birmingham, England 1833. Vinaigrettes were used in the 18th and 19th century as a personal hygiene accessory for the moneyed class and were used to carry pleasant oils and attars or vinegars which were absorbed into cloth pads under the pierced gilded grillwork and sniffed so as to cover up the smells of everyday life (when there were open sewers and waste and garbage were tossed from windows onto the sidewalks and streets below). This 1-7/16 x 1" example has fine hand engraving and it retains the fine openwork grill and gilding. It has the hallmarks and maker's mark for Thomas Shaw of Birmingham, England and the date letter for 1833. It has a gothic M monogram on the top and it is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some signs of slightly abrasive polishing in the past.

A rare Clews Jasperware cream jug circa 1815-34. This pre-Victorian English 3-3/4" high milk jug is signed by Clews. Ralph and James Clews (Cobridge, Staffordshire) was in business only from 1815-34; pieces of Jasperware in imitation of Wedgwood were tricky to manufacture and as a result examples by Clews are quite scarce. This buff coloured example has applied bacchanalia scenes, with figures drinking wine and holding grapes. It has a grape-leaf border and a hand-formed spout. It has an incised CLEWS on the bottom, and it shows the typical firing cracks in the decoration typical of the era. This exceptional piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs.
