A Victorian silver plate rolltop butter dish or server in the Aesthetic style from the 1880s. This antique beauty was made by Meriden and it has all of the hallmarks of quality and Victorian style and mechanical complexity. It has a pedestal base, a handle with floral decoration, high relief borders and a roll top with a pressed floral design. The rolling lid rests on two pins secured with a chained pinion and there are mounts on each side for a pair of butter knives. This steampunk item remains in reasonable condition with a few issues - one knife rest is missing (3 are intact), one side of one mounting bracket for the retaining pins is broken off, there is some pitting on the interior where a (now missing) ice liner would have been and there is a bit of plating loss on a few areas. The rolltop is functional and this would make a great decor item or table centerpiece (and a great "what is it?" for your next dinner party). A matching pair of American coin silver 3-3/4" master salt spoons, made and stamped with the Albert Coles hallmarks (in business 1835-75). The marks are slightly worn, but still clearly visible (more so than our picture). This is a 10-1/2" x 8-1/2" ball-footed swing-handle serving basket fully hallmarked for Sheffield, England 1895-6. Made by James Dixon & Sons, this basket has ornate repousse decoration in the bowl as well as attractive design to the ornate handle. It has a presentation inscription in the centre, as it was presented as a gift in September 1896, and it weighs an impressive 595 grams. Besides the hallmarks, it is also stamped 1618P and B3916, at least one of which refers to the design. This item is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. An antique Unger Bros sterling silver stamp safe or case circa 1890. This scarce late Victorian era 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" American sterling silver stamp safe has a lovely floral repouse design. This pocket stamp carrier is similar to a match safe in appearance, but smaller and without the striker edge. It has two circular cutouts on the upper edge for grasping the stamps. In the Victorian era, letter writing was a more popular pastime, so these boxes were a necessity to a well appointed desk. But not every writer had one, they are uncommon and are quite collectible today. It is stamped STERLING 925 FINE with the Unger Brothers maker's mark (they were in business 1872-1914), and it weighs 11.2 grams. A fine quality two piece antique Gorham sterling string holder, made by Gorham 1890-1900. This lovely string holder weighs 3 ounces, and its pierced design allows you to see if you will soon need more string. It measures 3-1/4" in diameter and it stands 3-1/4" in height. It has the Gorham maker's mark with STERLING B1294 on the bottom, and this item is in excellent condition, with no monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage; there is a tiny dent on the bottom. An unusual find for your silver or string holder collection, and would also work well for pot-pourri. An antique Dutch silver hand made miniature fireplace from 1900 or earlier. This unusual and well-made decorative miniature stands 1-5/8" high and 1-7/8" wide. It has a tooled gallery around the back plate, an integrated fire fender and floor surround and a space in the bed of the fireplace possibly for a wood cradle or grate (not present). It has an array of silver stamps including the Dutch sword mark and others - some may be import and maker's marks or resale marks (Dutch items were required to be marked each time an item is sold). This hand wrought decorative miniature weighs 19.6 grams and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there are two solder bumps at the top of the back plate where it may have had hoops attached for wear as a pendant at some time in the past. A Howard Sterling Co. 4 piece brush and mirror set from the 1890s. This high relief, decorative personal grooming set consists of the 10 x 5" hand mirror with beveled glass, the 9-1/4 x 3" hair brush, the 5-5/8 x 1-3/4" small clothes or shoulder brush and the 7 x 2-1/2" large clothes brush. This vanity or dresser set matches, it has the Howard marks, STERLING, 925/1000 and a patent date of 1892 (PAT. '92.). Not all pieces have all of the marks but they certainly match and each piece has a fancy script AGA (or AJA) monogram. A sterling silver cherubs brush mirror & comb set 1890 to 1900. This wonderfully ornate Victorian period set consists of the 10" x 3-7/8" mirror, the 9-3/8" x 2-1/2" brush with natural bristles, and the 7-5/8" long comb. Each is hallmarked for Birmingham, England and they have the Thomas Hayes maker's mark; the brush year hallmark is 1890, the comb year hallmark is 1898 and the mirror year hallmark is 1900. It is quite normal for these sets to have slightly differing dates on the various pieces from the same firm, as they were assembled into sets for sale from existing stock, and sometimes pieces were purchased over time. All three have a script BETH monogram, and they are in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor edge denting to the brush, and the replacement of the comb with a recent plastic one and a soldered repair to the mirror at the handle/mirror join. The original bevelled mirror is in fairly good shape also, which is not always the case. A pair of Gorham sterling salt dishes with spoons dated 1889. This embossed pair of 19th century salt cellars are 2" in diameter and they feature floral embossing and scalloped rims; they are stamped with the lion/anchor/G Gorham mark, STERLING, 2235 (pattern number) with the Gorham 1889 year mark. The pair of 2-1/8" long sterling silver salt spoons also have the Gorham old hallmark with STERLING, and they are in the Colonial pattern by Gorham, which was introduced in 1885. A wonderful antique decorative pair of oval ornate Victorian period sterling silver bowls or baskets, fully hallmarked London, England 1895-96. These high style late Victorian dishes measure 6-3/4" x 5", and are just over 1" deep. They have high relief repousse Gothic designs and pierce-work panels, and they have a W.R.C. maker's mark for William Richard Corke. There is also a British registry number stamped in the rim of both bowls - it looks like RD. 248864. They are heavier than the usual pierce-work English sterling dishes you normally find from this period - one basket weighs 81 grams, and the other 83 grams - and are a lovely quality pair of dishes. Other than a few minor rim bends, they are overall in excellent vintage condition, with no dents, monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage. It is an open edge, so this is restorable. A quality late 19thC 750 silver jug with baronial crests by J Wagner and Sohn ( Son ) Germany. This antique 5-1/4" tall cream pitcher has a wrythen or twisted groove style and a thumb rest as well as classic hoof shape feet. It is stamped J. This Queen Anne style serving piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906; it has a C.H maker's mark for Charles, Alfred Henry & Francis Herbert Westwood trading as Charles Harrold & Co, 2 and 3 St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. It has an ebony finial with a threaded wingnut mount and it weighs 256 grams. An attractive c1900 silverplated cylindrical silverplated holder and matching etched glass vase by Meriden. This 9-1/2" tall vase features a lattice-style silverplated holder with a band of laurel leaves, holding the matching glass liner also with a laurel leaf band. It is stamped with the Meriden Canada mark and H 13.
