A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. A pair of English Imari lustre jugs from the 1830s. This decorative unmarked pair of early to mid 19thC English jugs or pitchers is in the Imari colours with pink Sunderland luster. The largest is 8" tall and the smaller is 7"; both have embossed decoration and are hand painted. A pair of 19thC Japanese Meiji blue and white porcelain covered bowls. This fine pair consists of the 4-3/4" diameter footed bowls and their 5-1/4" covers with a rimmed foot or receptacle on the top. The covers can be placed on the rim to act as side dishes to the bowls. The hand painted blue and white design includes dragons, panels and scenes and each has hand painted gold highlights. A rare, early English flow blue covered entree or casserole dish c1860. This serving piece stands 7" high with the lid, and it measures 11-1/4" x 10-1/2". It has a floral style motif, and it has a pseudo Chinese mark, minor variants of which were used by Charles Meigh (1835-49), Charles Meigh & Son (1851-61) and also Job Meigh (c1805-34), all of Hanley, Staffordshire; we feel it dates c1850-60 but it could be of earlier manufacture. An early English 7-3/4" high large footed comport or tazza made by Wedgwood in 1878-9. This elegant Neoclassic design table serving piece measures 12-3/4" across the two handles and features fine hand painted gilding, a black transfer design (on top and underneath the plate) and relief molding to the handles, edge and foot. It is in the Corinth pattern, which is marked in underglaze black transfer lettering, and it is impressed WEDGWOOD PEARL with GH over P, 1813 pattern number and a triangle mark. A Royal Crown Derby 6452 hand painted covered entree dish 1907. This fine quality English bone china covered oval entree dish is dated 1907and it was made by Royal Crown Derby in the 6452 pattern. This 11-1/4" x 7-3/4" serving dish has a cobalt band with matte gold painting including a grape vine motif and white enamel jewelling. It is marked on both pieces with the orange ROYAL CROWN DERBY ENGLAND 6452 mark, the M year letter (for 1907) and an underglaze stamped DERBY 6-07. A TJ&J Mayer superb glazed moulded stoneware jug from the 18303s - 1850s. This wonderfully detailed and high quality glazed English high relief stoneware pitcher is 9-1/2" in height. It has a chocolate brown stippled ground on which is laid very thick allegorical scenes with palm trees in greyish coloured clay. It is known as the Paul and Virginia design. The hand-carved detail is stunning and even the handle is decorated with fronds and a stalk. The lip has two holes for the fitting of a pewter lid which was an option with these jugs - this example was never fitted. It has the stamped T.J.&J. MAYERS PATENT mark with DALE HALL POTTERY LONGPORT under the Royal Arms mark which was in use from c1843-55. It also has a No 102 18 pattern mark and the registry number for 1850. A Georgian English hand painted Imari dessert dish or platter circa 1800 1820. This 11-1/4" x 7-1/4" unmarked bowl features gold, orange, cobalt, teal, green and purple painted floral designs. Although it lacks an indent, it is possible that this is the platter that went beneath a tureen. It is 1-3/4" deep at the deepest point, so we are also calling it a s dish or shallow bowl. We have so far been unable to identify the manufacturer or pattern, but it is entirely consistent with English late 18th to early 19th century manufacture. A superb quality 19th century hand painted German porcelain double spills vase c1860-80. This decorative mantle piece measures 7-3/4" wide and it stands 7-1/4" tall; it is in the form of a boy at the seashore with waves and two shells acting as the vases. The painting and detail are superb, from the finely painted face to the realistic sand and the painted flowers on the boy's pants. A rare Clews Jasperware cream jug circa 1815-34. This pre-Victorian English 3-3/4" high milk jug is signed by Clews. Ralph and James Clews (Cobridge, Staffordshire) was in business only from 1815-34; pieces of Jasperware in imitation of Wedgwood were tricky to manufacture and as a result examples by Clews are quite scarce. This buff coloured example has applied bacchanalia scenes, with figures drinking wine and holding grapes. It has a grape-leaf border and a hand-formed spout. It has an incised CLEWS on the bottom, and it shows the typical firing cracks in the decoration typical of the era. A Royal Nippon hand painted white green & gold floral jardiniere plant pot from the 1880s. This beauty measures 8-5/8" across the handles and it stands 4-3/8" tall on its four feet. The decoration includes white flowers with a bit of orange blush on a few petals, pale green ground and a medium green band under the flowers. It is lushly decorated with applied gold and it has lots of beading. The bowl itself if lobed and the handles are forked at the top. It is typically unmarked and dates to around 1880 (items had to be marked for country of origin after 1891). An English polychrome blue & white transfer milk jug circa 1850. This 19th century decorative 5-3/4" tall jug measures 6-1/2" from spout to handle, and it has a Chinese scene design. The colours are green, teal, orange and yellow and the design is continued on the inside upper rim and spout.
