The Etchings of Frank Brangwyn fine arts book 1912. This large and vintage 13-1/2" x 10-1/2" art book is entitled "Catalogue of The Etched Work of Frank Brangwyn", published in 1912 by the London Fine Art Society Ltd. This book has a cloth and leather board cover with an applied gold-stamped leather title panel on the spine; it has 139 pages and it is profusely illustrated with tissue-covered etching reproductions. The paper is hand-cut and top gilt, and curiously this book was the personal copy of and it is signed on the facing flyleaf by A.H. Knighton Hammond, the famous English painter. Condition is very good, with the following issues: minor corner bruising,, leather soiling, minor water staining to cloth on the back cover, bruising to the upper leather on the spine, wear and scrapes to applied title leather, wear and loss and 1" split on lower spine, top-to-bottom back and front cover split between covers and body (covers still firmly attached with original cloth strips). It has a tipped-in "errata" strip, and the page condition is excellent with no foxing, tears or staining, however the endpapers have minor foxing. This item is in very good condition as described above. A Royal Bayreuth village scene with birds creamer and sugar. This 3-5/8" tall porcelain lidded sugar bowl and matching 2-7/8" high creamer were made by Royal Bayreuth, Bavaria (Germany) c1910-20. The creamer depicts a lady tending geese in front of a village scene with two geese on the back; the sugar bowl shows a gentleman tending turkeys with a village scene with turkey hens on the back. each piece is tgrimmed in gold and they have the Bayreuth mark plus a 22 pattern mark. A triple Mercury dime punch out gilt silver pin 1917. This stamped Liberty head gilt silver pin comprises three 1917 American Mercury silver dimes. Each coin is "punched out" with high relief Liberty heads with excellent detail, and they are soldered together, gilded, and mounted with a brass c-clasp pin. It is unsigned, and such vintage embossed coins are eagerly collected. This pin weighs 8.0 grams, and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A 800 solid hand engraved Italian lidded canister or box circa 1930-35. This lovely silver item is gilded on the interior and it has a lobed design with ornate floral engraving. It could possibly have been for cigarettes, although similar items were also prodiced to hold sugar or tea. It is stamped 800 MILANO and A RONCHI on the bottom. The jewellery firm August Ronchi opened in Milan, Italy in 1929 - this firm sells mostly high end jewellery and watches, but has also produced lovely quality silver items in the past. A Victorian brass & glass fob with a Lord Kitchener medallion. This 5-1/4 x 1" brass and cut French Jet (black glass) watch fob has a swivel and it is complete with a later commemorative oval 1-3/4" x 1-1/4" pressed steel medallion depicting Lord Kitchener. The medal has a high relief portrait of Kitchener (1850-1916) with the legends FEARLESS NOBLE BRAVE AND TRUE and BRITAIN'S NOBLE SON. The fob and medallion are both in very good condition with some chips to the glass inserts, some minor denting and a patina of wear to the chain, and some loss and weathering to the plating on the steel medal. A set of six matching 15/16" nurse's buttons (we think) from a World War I era uniform. Each is made of white metal and all have a black patinated finish - jewellery and metal were blackened so as not to reflect light or shine in the dark to avoid attracting the attention of the low-flying airplanes. The three of them have their retaining cotter pins. A lovely lady's Ryrie (later Birks) hanging watch in 9k rose gold c1910. This 1-1/8" diameter watch features a single sunk seconds dial, blued hands and black Roman numerals and a large hinged rectangular loop for hanging. The face is marked RYRIE, and the case is stamped with London, England import gold marks with a 109926 serial number. The 15/16" (24 mm.) diameter works are stamped 3326279 RYRIE VERNON 15 JEWELS; Vernon was Ryrie's quality gold watch line and they used Waltham works according to archive catalogues. This watch is suspended from a 10k yellow gold pin featuring the three loop Rebekah lodge symbol. The pin has a safety catch, and this pin and watch measures 2-1/4 x 1-1/4" in total. It weighs 18.2 grams, and this watch runs and keeps time, however we recommend that all timepieces be professionally cleaned and adjusted. A large and elegant European silver goblet of modern design by Wilhelm Binder of Schwabisch Gmund (Germany), established in 1869. This goblet apparently dates c1900-10. It measures 8-3/4" (24cm) in height, and measures 4-1/4" (just under 11 cm) across the rim. It weighs approximately 227 grams. It is stamped with the German post-1886 crescent moon and crown mark, 835 WTB and has a company number of 73123 and a small punch mark we could not make out. It has not been monogrammed or inscribed, and it is in excellent condition, with no dents, breaks, corrosion, repairs or damage. A massive Neoclassic English sterling silver centerpiece basket, fully hallmarked for Sheffeld 1910. Made by the firm James Dixon & Sons, this basket is a prime example of quality Edwardian silver done in the revivial of design from a century earlier. It has gadrooned edges, scroll and leaf edge terminals, and berried wreath designs. This 16-3/4" x 11" beauty weighs an impressive 1010 grams (approximately 32.5 troy ounces) of sterling silver. It was presented as an award, and it has the following inscription at the center of the bowl: PRESENTED TO W.T. GENT, Esqre. J.P., IN RECOGNITION OF 30 YEARS SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL OF MISTERTON 11th MARCH 1925." Mr. Gent was the Justice of the Peace of the small town and rural area of Misterton, Nottinghamshire, England, and the inscription also has the names of other council members. This basket is solidly made and heavy, and it was actually plated with sterling over the original parcel gilding (polishing has revealed gilding under polished silver areas, rather than vice-versa). As this basket was bought on the secondhand market for presentation some 15 years after its manufacture, the purchasers opted to silver over the existing gilding, which was considered somewhat ostentatious and contrary to the British taste of the day. Some of the gilding is visible on the ribbon openwork, on the upper section of the base, and on the inscription area. Further polishing will reveal the intact gilding under the thin sterling plating done probably at the time of presentation. This wonderful survivor is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the areas of exposed gilding. A very attractive German made 9 x 5-3/4" gold plated brass mounted glass bead floral purse c1920. This purse has deep purple, black, blue, turquoise, green, light green, pink, lilac, red, amber and yellow beads with beaded fringe along the bottom. An Edwardian 10K Birks carved green jadite ring from the 1910 to 1915 era. This Arts and Crafts size 5-1/4 or 5.75 ring measures 3/4" x 5/8" across the claw-set genuine jade gem stone, which appears to be carved with a pomegranate or peach and a pear or fig. It has ornate engraved shoulders which owe a bit more to the Edwardian era. It is stamped BIRKS 10K with the Birks crown mark and a sideways pear stamp. An elegant Edwardian period baisse-taille white enamel and sterling silver brooch with fine engine turning and gold inlay, circa 1910. This antique 2" across pin was made by Blackinton of North Attleboro, Massachusetts (1862-1967), It was constructed from French baisse-taille enamel on sterling mounted with a pin assembly with a safety catch. The bright gold flowers and wreath inlaid on the brooch set it off beautifully against the engine-turned design under the enamel. It has a pattern number 9707, and it has some solder where the company attached the pin to the enamel gilt-silver disc. The entire back is satin finish and gilt - the solder is original to the manufacture of the brooch, and is not a repair (enamel has to be heated with extreme care after manufacture). It is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, scrapes, dents, monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. An English sterling silver curb link watch chain with an escutcheon shape medal or award fob. The 14 3/8" length antique watchchain has individual lion passant marks and the watch swivel has the company mark of Henry Williamson Ld (known 1895 - ?). The fob, which appears to be a football award, has the makers mark of William H Haseler and the Birmingham 1915 year mark. The shield in the centre has rse gold and two ornate iniitials, possibly ST. There is one swivel, possibly this was being worn as a unique necklace. A motorcycle & sidecar tintype circa 1905 with a historic view. This scarce, very early photograph is on a late tintype (photo on treated metal blank) and this 2-3/8 x 1-5/8" (view area) image consists of a young motorcycle rider astride the bike with a rather concerned-looking grandma in the sidecar. Three other ladies stand behind her, and there is an Edmonson's Red Seal Toffee pail in the middle of the road (road hazards were a little different in those days...). A Royal Crown Derby 6452 hand painted covered entree dish 1907. This fine quality English bone china covered oval entree dish is dated 1907and it was made by Royal Crown Derby in the 6452 pattern. This 11-1/4" x 7-3/4" serving dish has a cobalt band with matte gold painting including a grape vine motif and white enamel jewelling. It is marked on both pieces with the orange ROYAL CROWN DERBY ENGLAND 6452 mark, the M year letter (for 1907) and an underglaze stamped DERBY 6-07. A Charles Dana Gibson THE WEAKER SEX ink sketch study. We are proud to offer this original preliminary ink sketch by the famed American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944), the creator of the Gibson Girl. He first came to eminence as the foremost magazine illustrator of his time in the late 19th century, later in life he turned completely to painting. His long and illustrious career takes more room than alloted here to discuss, and is well covered elsewhere on the Internet. This item is a 22" x 15-1/2" preliminary ink study on paper of his "The Weaker Sex" illustration. The hair is done in characteristic fashion but the inking is more simplistic, and the magnifying glass is not as finely detailed as in the final work, which in the final version has a fourth woman in the upper right hand corner. His signature (Charles Gibson) is visible in the shadow area beneath the arm of the woman holding the magnifying glass. On the back of the drawing No. 84 and Mrs (or Miss) Drew is written in pencil. Besides the fact that he apparently was working out the details of the shadows under the arm, he most likely deliberately drew lines over the signature as this piece does not have the perfection of his finished work. The paper is a slightly heavy thickness of sketch pad paper; it is framed in a black-painted wood frame with gilding (minor paint spots and a couple of dings to the frame). Some notes on condition: there are some creases, a tear in the upper left, a few scratches to the paper surface, some brown foxing and some spotting and a water stain on the right hand side. A rarity and an interesting example of a great work in progress. This item is in very good original condition with the condition issued noted above. An attractive, well painted Japanese 10" x 6-3/4" lacquer over wood box c1900. This box has a richly painted scene of a bird, tree with flowers and leaves and a curved fence with mountains and a lake in the background. The thickly applied colours include textured black (tree), gold, orange and grey. This box has a black interior and the original lock (key missing) with a metal escutcheon plate; it appears to have been used as a cigar box in the past however, it could be used for many things. A truly unusual late Victorian rolled gold plate swing-open photo or hair locket brooch c1900. This 1-3/8" diameter pin features a twist border and a bevelled glass window; it has a c-clasp and the back is hinged, opening to reveal a bezel holding the glass. An attractive c1900 silverplated cylindrical silverplated holder and matching etched glass vase by Meriden. This 9-1/2" tall vase features a lattice-style silverplated holder with a band of laurel leaves, holding the matching glass liner also with a laurel leaf band. A c1900 swing-out lorgnette eyeglasses on a handle in heavy rolled gold plate. These folding spectacles measure 4-1/2" long and the lenses are 1-1/2" across. A Vict. gf watch chain with a 12k banded agate fob. This gold plated late Victorian period 16-1/8" watch chain has a 12K gold and agate fob and it dates to the 1890s. It has a swivel and spring-ring, with a suspended t-bar on a 1-3/4" chain. It has a barrel shaped 1" x 7/16" genuine banded agate fob mounted with 12k yellow gold ends (unmarked but tested). This octagonal facetted stone fob is mounted on two 7/8" gold filled chains and is attached to the main chain by a 7/8" link drop. This chain is finer an more delicate than the usual, and would make a great necklace. It is in excellent antique condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a few barely visible nicks to the stone's edges and a bit of gold wear to the swivel.
