A Victorian Aesthetic brass dress hem lifter circa 1880. This unusual Victorian design object was made to hold up the hem of a lady's dress. It sounds a little risque, but sometimes you preferred those long skirts not to be near water or mud, as is only sensible. In the Aesthetic design popular at the time (and swans certainly were popular), this solid brass clothing accessory clamps the bottom of the lady's dress with the tongs, which are locked in place by the sliding shield-shaped housing. A cord looped through a (now missing) brass loop at the top of the slider is pulled to raise the hem of the floor-length skirt. It has the word PATENT on the tongs, and this unusual item is in excellent original condition with no dents, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the missing loop and some minor bending of the shield edges. A Victorian child's ironstone dinner set circa 1860 with 35 pieces. This rare and early 35 piece set is one of the most complete we have encountered, and it has many serving pieces; it has a black transfer design. It was made by Livesley Powell & Co. of Hanley, Staffordshire, England (1851-1866), with the BEST LP & Co. maker's mark found on three of the rim soup bowls only. This set includes: two 4" across the spout and handle gravy or sauce boats, six 4-1/2" dinner plates, six 3-5/8" salad plates, four 3" bread and butter plates, six 4-1/2" rim soup bowls, 4-3/8 x 3-1/2" oval open vegetable bowl (some minor browning), a set of three platters (5-5/8 x 4-1/2", 5-3/8 x 4-1/4", 4-7/8 x 3-7/8" (tight hairline resembling craze line showing on both sides)), 4-1/4" high and 4-1/2" across the handles covered round footed entree dish, a second footed entree dish without the lid, and, amazingly, the soup tureen complete with ladle, lid, bowl and underplate! The soup tureen itself consists of the 5-7/8 x 5-1/4" fitted underplate (underglaze "PRINTED" stamp on bottom), 4" across lid with ladle opening, 4-1/2" ladle with transfer design, 5-5/8" across the handles footed base (minor browning). The tureen stands 6-1/4" high, and this amazing set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs unless stated; please note that all pieces have fine overall crazing and a few have the expected very minor firing flaws found in items of this vintage. A Victorian gold filled photo locket on a fancy rolled gold plate chain necklace from the 1870s 1880s. This necklace is unusual in that it is gold filled and not the typical sterling silver and it features yellow gold plate and a strip of fancy bordered rose gold plate setting off the design. It has a subtle matte finish and the rose gold is glossy and it opens up to show two (very faded) baby photos which both have annotations with names and the date 1900 as well as the paper lining, original glass windows and both bezels. The locket measures 2-1/4 x 1" (including bale) and it comes on a fancy 19" long and 5/16" wide rolled gold plated chain which has a springring clasp and a safety chain. "15 YRS." refers to the guarantee on the chain's gold plating to last for 15 years under normal use (similar to that used on watch cases). A Victorian hand engraved sterling silver bangle with a double loop clasp. It features fine hand engraving on the shoulders beside the clasp which consists of a double loop in a hook and eye style. It has a fine safety chain anchored to a loop and it measures 2-3/8 x 1-7/8" across the interior and 5/16" wide. The chain has no second loop and it was probably soldered to the other loop as a retaining chain to the underside (where there is some solder) but it is now loose. This bangle is unmarked but tested and it weighs 12.2 grams. A Victorian jet bracelet with carving circa 1870-80. This genuine (tested) jet carved bracelet is in the Aesthetic style. It has elastic cord threading (re-strung)and it has a staggered orientation of the band's panels (possibly strung differently originally). The 1" across top panel and two flanking panels both have decorative carving, the rest are plain polished. This item is in fair vintage condition with the following issues: chipping to the thread mounting holes on the back of the center panel, some small edge chips to the bottom corners of the side panels, some tiny edge flakes and chips on the front edges of the side panels and one one other panel and a cracked side panel (the crack is tight and is held together by the elastic, and it can be glued if you wish). A Victorian silver plate rolltop butter dish or server in the Aesthetic style from the 1880s. This antique beauty was made by Meriden and it has all of the hallmarks of quality and Victorian style and mechanical complexity. It has a pedestal base, a handle with floral decoration, high relief borders and a roll top with a pressed floral design. The rolling lid rests on two pins secured with a chained pinion and there are mounts on each side for a pair of butter knives. This steampunk item remains in reasonable condition with a few issues - one knife rest is missing (3 are intact), one side of one mounting bracket for the retaining pins is broken off, there is some pitting on the interior where a (now missing) ice liner would have been and there is a bit of plating loss on a few areas.
