An exceptional Victorian Tunbridge Ware trinket or dresser box circa 1850s. Tunbridgeware was made as souvenir ware in England and Scotland. It consists of tiny inlaid exotic wood tesserae in geometric designs. This 4-3/8 x 4-1/4" and 1-3/4" high example has a repeating floral pattern on the top, a Greek key design on the sides and a bird's eye maple ground. The lid appears to be rosewood and the box is quite heavy. It retains the original colours which include green, yellow, red and gold and the workmanship is superb. It is in remarkable intact condition with no fading, chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a bit of warping to the lid. The hinges are intact and our pictures don't even come close to showing the fine detail of this folk art box. A Fa Dahlia Dutch 835 solid silver pastry pie lifter or cake server dated 1920. This ornate European silver 8-1/2" dessert server features a high relief village scene, flowers and a mythological mask on the pierced work blade and the stem is fancy as well. This fine dining or tea table serving piece is topped with a finely detailed sailing ship. It has various Dutch hallmarks including the .835 silver mark, the K date mark (for 1920) and the maker's mark for Fa. Dahlia. It is nicely cast and finished and it weighs 77.3 grams. This handpainted and unmarked figurine stands 8-1/2" high, and she has decoration on the front and on the back. A feldspar necklace and earrings set from the 1930s with pastel colours. This natural mineral crystal is semitranslucent and easily dyed with a linear fiber-like appearance and it is shown to good effect in this post-Deco era set. The 15-1/2" necklace has five interlocking hoops with one colour each of blue, pink and green; the colours alternate on the ends of the necklace. The 1-1/2 x 7/8" screwback earrings have multiple colours of feldspar as well and all stones are capped with brass fittings and wire loop spacers. This set is unsigned and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs however the metal links and caps show signs of silver plating which has now mostly worn off. A lovely mid-Victorian piece of hair jewellery in 10k yellow gold c1860-80. This 1-3/4" x 1-3/8" pendant features a fine hand engraved (unmarked but tested) gold surround with a central concave transluscent moonstone agate, on which is mounted a gold-bordered hair insert. The insert and surround are bolted to the agate with hand-cut bolts, and it retains the original finely braided black hair, bezel and glass window. This item has been converted to a pendant, with a loop attached through a small drilled hole; the hinge for the pin remains and it could easily be converted back to a brooch with the addition of a pin and catch. It weighs 12.3 grams, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses or damage, other than the conversion. A fine 10k coral cameo with seed pearls pendant pin circa 1900. This high relief hand carved pale pink and white coral portrait cameo pendant pin is in 10k yellow gold. This 1-1/4 x 1-1/16" brooch features a thickly carved bezel-set cameo with a string of seed pearls wrapped around the spiral edge of the pin. It is stamped 10K on the pin, it has a swing-up loop for wear as a pendant necklace, and it weighs 8.4 grams. A Franck L. Paris France oil on panel painting dated 1969. An excellent example of 1960s French Modernism, this painting is by the renowned painter Franck.L. and is an early work by this respected artist who is still producing. Born in 1944, he started exhibiting in 1966 and his works have been shown at the Musee d’Art Moderne in Paris. This work is an untitled still life and it was purchased for a London, Ontario home in 1969. It comes with a contemporary linen-bordered 25 x 19" gilt wood frame and the sight size is 20-1/2 x 14-1/2". It is in good condition with a few areas of craquelure with some scattered areas of lost small paint flakes and a diagonal crease with paint loss near the left hand margin however the thinly applied paint wash also has areas showing small areas of plain panel as well which appear to be integral to the original artist's intent. We are selling it in unrestored condition as it was found in the home. An important Canadian Group of 7 oil on panel by Francis Hans - Franz or Frank - Johnston OSA, ARCA (Canadian, 1888-1949) titled "Pools of Spring". Born in Toronto, he was a founding member of the renowned Toronto painters known as the Group of Seven, which he left by 1926. He became a principal of the Winnipeg School of Art and later the Ontario College of Art. He changed his signature to "Franz" in 1927 on the advice of a friend. He was the most productive and financially successful of the Group of Seven, painting steadily until he suffered a stroke in 1948. His work shows his love of the Canadian landscape and his fascination with light. His highly sought after works are on exhibition in the McMaster Collection, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada (General Collection and War Gallery Collection), among others. This painting has a sight size of 24" x 20" and the original painted frame, which measures 31" x 26-3/4". This painting has an inscription on the back saying "POOLS of SPRING Source of the Oroman Early April by Franz Johnston A.R.C.A." and this work of art has also been authenticated in writing by a leading Toronto fine arts auction house.
