This 1-5/16" locket features an engine turned design on each side, a watch-style bale for hanging from a chain, pin or chatelaine, and it has a removable central compartment for hair or a memento. A scarce World War I era 60" patinated metal and purple cut glass fan or watch chain circa 1915. Unsigned but possibly English, it was common for jewelry at this time to be blackened or patinated so as to avoid flashing and glinting, which could have been seen by the enemy fliers at night. World War I planes were smaller and flew lower, so moonlight reflecting on jewelry allowed people to be seen. The patination made it possible to wear jewelry that was not visible at night, so this style of jewelry became popular until 1918. A huge Continental blue aurora borealis rhinestone brooch and matchingclip on earrings circa 1950s. The 3" across brooch and 1-1/8" x 1/2" earrings are unmarked but are undoubtedly by Continental. An Edwardian 9k yellow gold turquoise and pearls bar tie cravat pin from the 1900 1910 period. This 1-3/4 x 1/2" brooch or straight pin is stamped 9Ct and it weighs 1.7 grams. It features a central natural turquoise cabochon surrounded by silvery seed pearls in a flower head arrangement with Nouveau style swirls. It has a c-clasp and it is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a small dent at one end and some minor flattening of the bar part of the pin (possibly from the making). One of the accent pearls is also cracked.
