WE HAVE MORE PICTURES OF THIS ITEM AVAILABLE - PLEASE EMAIL US AND WE'LL SEND THEM TO YOU. Here's a rare chance to own a superb example of late Victorian technology. This is a stunning c1900 mahogany and brass 1/2 and 1/4 glass plate camera which includes the original tripod, extra plates, plate holders, photographer's guide and other items. Thornton-Pickard was a renowned maker and distributor of fine cameras and this early model, probably a Ruby, is certainly one of the nicest, and in superb original condition as well. It includes the brass mounted mahogany body (serial number 6337) fitted with the brass bottom wheel for mounting of the original three-leg adjustable brass-mounted tripod. It retains the original leather carrying handle (this camera collapses for easy transport). It retains the original black leather bellows which remain in excellent shape (shown slack in one of the pictures - it extends fully and cleanly as expected) and all screws and mounts are intact and fully functional. Included is a 1911 Wellcome Photographic Exposure Record from the London, Ontario, Canada owner which has a later notation describing the lens as an F.H. Dowblet with a T-P shutter; this booklet also has an exposure calculation wheel as well as shutter, picture and other information. Also included are three mahogany and metal slide McKenzie Wishart film and plate holders allowing 6 further plates to be exposed (numbered with ivory discs from 1-6). The lens assembly has the original wrapped pull cord and the ivory discs showing the speed settings and another with the T-P identification information (TIME & INST. PATENT THORNTON-PICKARD). Also included in this suite is a cardstock case with five unexposed glass 1/4 plates (2 broken, 3 intact), three black patinated metal double sided (#1-6) 1/4 plate carriers in the original cloth wrapped carry case, an extra loose metal mounted plate from one of the carriers, some old newspaper scraps that wrapped some of the plates, four exposed 1/2 plates (uniformed guard, couple in front of house in London, Ontario, three landscapes with a newspaper clipping showing the bridge over a river which is one of the views on the plates) plus a 1/4 plate showing a school soccer player. We have reversed the image with our photo software so you can see the couple (available in our email picture files). Conditon on this intact and rare package is exemplary - some minor corner bashes to the wood of the lens housing and some very minor signs of gentle use and some fraying and loss to the shutter cord and minor wear to the carrying handle, but overall it is astounding this setup has remained intact and in such archive-worthy condition. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $75 (other spots may vary). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. PLEASE NOTE: we DO NOT accept PayPal, only VISA and MASTERCARD.

An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This was lit in the flame, carried to the cigar, and then extinguished and reinserted in its well to soak it for the next cigar. Each tweezer/clamp has a sliding collar to squeeze onto the wick, and this unusual item has the maker's mark for Hirons, Plante & Co. (c1878-1882) of Birmingham, England. This lighter is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than seven shallow dents on the body. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Before Rolling Stone turned into an irrelevant pile of commercial crap over 40 years ago, it was at the vanguard of the "Underground Press" - a crude newspaper devoted to the counterculture, drugs, music, uncensored political and sexual expression and all things Hippie. Fortunately, being Canadian, the Georgia Straight of Vancouver carried on the anarchistic torch for a few years after RS gave it up, giving us a ribald and unfettered underground newspaper sold in the British Columbia area. From r-rated underground comics (the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers (FFFB) by Gilbert Shelton, Fat Freddie's Cat, and others) to interviews with counterculture icons, this paper is a window on a long-gone world of late 1960s ideals (it started around the same time as RS in 1967). This is a selection of 14 issues from 1973-74 and although not a contiguous run it gives a great look at the era. Included are the following issues:
VOL.7 (1973) - June 14-21 (no issue number, Allen Ginsberg); #306 Aug. 16-23 (Flo & Eddie concert ad, Craig Herb and the Wife comic, FFFB comic); #307 Aug. 23-30 (FFFB, Neil Young, Elton concert ad); #310 Sep. 13-20 (Bruce Lee, Ecohawks Brent Boates comic); #314 Oct. 12-19 (FFFB, tinted paper stock); #315 Oct. 18-25 (Cluck Wilverton comic, stain/tear/yellowing); #319 Nov. 15-22 (Wavy Gravy, FFFB, Leon Russell concert ad); #321 Nov. 29-Dec. 6 (FFFB, Willie Dixon/J.L. Hooker concert ad); #324 Dec. 20-Jan. 3, 1974 (Craig Xmas colour comic, Quicksilver concert ad)
VOL. 8 1974 -#325 (FFFB, Pigpen eulogies); #328 Jan. 24-31 (Harold Hedd comic); #329 Jan. 31-Feb. 7 (FFFB, Nancy Kotex Yossarian comic, Craig Vancouver colour comic spread, ELP concert ad); #331 Feb. 14-21 (Craig comic, G. Shelton Fat Freddy's Cat comic); No number May 2-9 (Allen Ginsberg Craig colour cover, ROBERT CRUMB COMIC, Leslie comics, Ginsberg). For the most part all are in excellent condition with only a bit of raggedness to the lower edges, a bit of yellowing of the old newsprint stock, and a small tear or two on an issue or two. There are no losses, writing, labels, cut out sections, creases or folds and they are very well preserved considering their 40 years of existence. A great chance to own a piece of history. Since there isn't a complete run, we're selling these as a collection only. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $21 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT accept PayPal, only VISA and MASTERCARD.
