A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. They both have a painted 316 pattern number and the plate has an impressed PEARL WHITE mark. A cranberry thumbprint pattern glass pickle cruet on a silver plated stand from the 1890 era. The ornate stand is 11-3/4" tall and it has a nice decorative design as does the original silver plated lid; it is stamped with the Standard Silver Co. mark, which was in business in Toronto before 1893 (they later merged with International in 1913). The cranberry glass liner/jar has a thumbprint pattern and it fits snugly in the rim on the base. Also included is a fine, contemporary pair of pickle tongs. This item is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some tiny fleabites on the rim of the liner (very slight) and some minor loss to the plating on the stand. A vintage Victorian period porcelain pink lustre 5 piece condiment or cruet set depicting a playing pair of cherubs or children with the legend "A present from Rathdowney" (a town located in County Laois, Ireland). This 5-3/8" across set is 5-1/4" deep and stands 4-1/2" high with the lids and shaker insert. It includes the base with molded leaf decoration, gold trim and the original spoon for the lidded mustard pot; the shaker inserts into one of the cups. The lustre is a Sunderland pink, popular in the mid to late 19th century, and this set has an incised 776 on the bottom and was most likely made originally in Austria or Germany, and sold in Rathdowney. This set is in excellent original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a touch of gold wear and a small 1/8" interior shallow rim chip on the mustard bowl and a small loss to the transfer decoration. A 19thC Bohemian red glass and enamel vase. This late Victorian era red or ruby flash 7-1/4" tall lobed vase features clear panels with acid etching with hand applied blue, orange and green enamel painting as well as traces of gold trim on the top edge. A finely detailed 11-3/4" tall silverplated epergne stand or base c1880s. This stand features a semi-nude woman stganding on a footed base holding the dish aloft; it is stamped MONARCH SILVER CO. 592 on the bottom. The bottom of the bowl support has a satin finish, and it measures 3-5/8" across the interior, with a 9/16" deep collar for supporting the bowl. This item is in very good condition with no corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor losses to the original plating, a break where her foot was soldered to the base (see picture) and some denting under her other foot. A Davenport 2614 Old Imari 2451 style pattern cup and saucer from 1870-1887. This wonderful fully hand painted English bone china 2-5/8" tall cup and matching 5-5/8" saucer has lush gold, cobalt and orange decoration. The pattern was later copied by Royal Crown Derby as "Old Imari" or "Traditional Imari" (in production from 1902-2014). This scarce cup and saucer has the Davenport mark used from 1870-87 and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than a tiny 1/16" surface glaze flaw or glaze crack. The cup rings true and on the top and interior edge the flaw isn't visible through the original gilding, which was applied over the flaw at the factory. A decorated 19thC copper lustre child's cann or mug. This vintage mid-19th century 2-1/2" high decorated copper luster mug features a relief beaded rim, lovely metallic copper luster, a blue band with leaf decoration and a white interior with a pink lustre interior rim. It is unmarked and it has a pink lustre brush wipe on the interior, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than an overglazed flat spot on the bottom rim and some craze lines on the interior bottom only. the luster is a consistent deep rich copper colour from top to bottom, unlike in our photos which show reflection from the towel. A scarce covered jar in the early American pressed or pattern glass Festoon pattern, issued by Beatty Brady Glass Co. (Indiana 1898). This is a 10-1/2" x 8-1/2" ball-footed swing-handle serving basket fully hallmarked for Sheffield, England 1895-6. Made by James Dixon & Sons, this basket has ornate repousse decoration in the bowl as well as attractive design to the ornate handle. It has a presentation inscription in the centre, as it was presented as a gift in September 1896, and it weighs an impressive 595 grams. Besides the hallmarks, it is also stamped 1618P and B3916, at least one of which refers to the design. This item is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A gray transfer covered sauce dish. This early unsigned English covered footed sauce dish dates to circa 1830-50. It has classical scenes and an oak leaf border as well as sculpted handles and feet, all with gray or grey transfer decoration. It is marked only with an impressed P underneath. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, three tiny glaze flakes on the lid's rim (two at the opening for the ladle) and a pinpoint burst glaze bubble or small chip on the lid rim (see pic). An antique Dutch silver hand made miniature fireplace from 1900 or earlier. This unusual and well-made decorative miniature stands 1-5/8" high and 1-7/8" wide. It has a tooled gallery around the back plate, an integrated fire fender and floor surround and a space in the bed of the fireplace possibly for a wood cradle or grate (not present). It has an array of silver stamps including the Dutch sword mark and others - some may be import and maker's marks or resale marks (Dutch items were required to be marked each time an item is sold). This hand wrought decorative miniature weighs 19.6 grams and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there are two solder bumps at the top of the back plate where it may have had hoops attached for wear as a pendant at some time in the past. An R.A. Kidston 20" London scene United Kingdom meat platter circa 1840. This is an early Scottish large blue transferware well and tree meat platter in blue transfer. This platter stands on two bracket feet and the juice well; it is stamped R.A.K. & Co. UNITED KINGDOM LONDON for R.A. Kidston and Co. Finnieston (part of Glasgow) Scotland who used this mark from 1838-1845. The Coysh & Henrywood Blue and White Printed Pottery reference book mentions this series, but not this actual scene of London - I have never run across this pattern piece before. It is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, a bit of minor bruising to one foot rim (intact with no losses), a 5/8" edge chip and some staining (mostly on the back). A vintage Victorian English silverplated footed salver with fine hand engraving. This 19th century 12" serving tray features a scalloped edge with modified shell decorations; the engraving has shells, boughs, florals and fruits as well as a complex monogram in the center. A vintage Mt. Washington Quilted Diamonds huge rose bowl. This true vintage Victorian cased glass rose bowl is in attractive aqua blue and it dates around 1890. This 5-1/4" high and 6-1/4" across crimped edge posey vase is in the satin finish Quilted Diamonds pattern, produced by Mt. Washington glass. This IS NOT a reproduction, but the real thing, as can be seen in our pictures, which show the soft irridescent design. An early magenta transfer cup and saucer from the 1830s-1850s. This nice early example of transferware is a 2-3/8" high footed cup and matching 6" saucer with a fine magenta (purple/red) colour floral transfer with handpainted highlights. It has a painted 2/441 pattern mark and a formed fluted column design. The saucer is deep for drinking from (an 18th and 19th century custom) and it is typical for the era. This attractive item is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a small rim chip on the bottom of the saucer as well as some barely noticeable areas of glaze wear on two flowers and one flute on the cup (see enlargement). A fine 19th century 6-1/2" Stourbridge-style milk glass vase with amber glass applied leaves and feet plus red cherries. The milk glass has nice orange fire when held to the light, and the leaves, feet and cherries are well formed. A 19th century Rococo revival silver plated ornate wine bottle stand/carrier c1875-80. This two bottle stand has a Gothic railing surrounding the bottle section, and a handle adorned by the three Graces with birds on the handle. The base has naturalistic slightly rococo flowers and leaves. It measures just over 12 inches in height, and the base measures 12" x 5-1/8". The handle can be unbolted from the base for easier polishing. There is a spot near the base at the bottom of the handle which appears to have been re-soldered professionally at some point in the past, and one spike is missing from the Gothic railing (and a few others are slightly bent). It has been lightly polished and much of the original plating is intact (you can finish polishing it if you wish). This item is in very good original condition with no dents, corrosion, damage or repairs other than stated above. A stunning hand painted Art Nouveau porcelain centerpiece 1890 1900. This true Nouveau table decoration is likely German or Austrian. This 14-1/4" tall and 10-1/4" wide decorative item would look good on the table or on the mantlepiece. Constructed of two pieces, the bowl and base, it has a figure on a column in the center of the lower bowl, which has finely molded openwork flowing handles. All parts of this display piece are fully handpainted, from the finely detailed face to the fine gold highlights. The finish is mostly matte, with the interiors, body of the figure and central panel in a gloss surface. The interiors of the bowls have a lustre finish. The bowl attaches to the base column with a brass cylindrical mount and sleeve, and this ornate piece is unmarked. The condition of this item is remarkable - it has survived completely intact with no wear, losses or any damage whatsoever over the last 110 or so years. A group of four hand painted German porcelain cups and saucers by Helena Wolfsohn c1870s-80s. Each has fine floral decoration with garlands and gold trim and highlights, both inside and out. Each has a blue ground and all have the blue Wolfsohn backstamp (crowned D over Hand painted Dresden Saxony). One has "Handgemalt" instead of handpainted, and all have the gold rose overstamp. The cups stand 2" high and the saucers are 5-7/8" across, and each saucer also is stamped with a retailer stamp. An attractive 19thC American (or Canadian) pattern or pressed glass stoppered decanter with what appears to be an double leaf motif (one over the other) not dissimilar to a maple leaf. This 9-1/2" tall (with stopper) blown-mould decanter retains its original stopper; the detail and relief are sharp and well defined, and this unusual piece, whose maker and pattern unknown to us, is in excellent original condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some chips to the bottom of the stopper (see image). We would be happy to add the name of the pattern if any knowledgeable glass person would care to drop us an email. A 7-1/2" German or Austrian porcelain hand painted figurine of a bugler. This mid to late 19th century figure features fine hand painting with gold, orange, blue, tan and realistic flesh colours; it is in a style similar to Heubach figures, but many European factories of this period were producing such figures, and it has a shiny rather than matte glaze. It is unsigned except for a painted XX, and it is in very good original condition with no chips, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a tight crack on the base at the back and some gilt wear. There are original glazed firing cracks at the elbows, right front leg and hat at the thigh, but these are original to the manufacture of the piece, not later damage. A Minton wild strawberries A2625 hand painted berry or fruit bowl dated 1866. This Victorian beauty measures 9-3/8" across and it features finely handpainted leaves, flowers and wild strawberries all in high relief. This bowl is similar to other antique Minton patterns however we haven't definitively identified it. It has the impressed MINTON mark (used from 1862-71, later MINTONS) and a date cypher resembling that used for 1866. This bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than some wear and loss to the paint on the high points of the design. This is minor and most apparent on one strawberry, a few leaves and the roots of the plants. A 19thC china child with doll in washtub figurine. This unusual and well made hand painted late 19th century porcelain figural whimsey or decorative figure is of a girl holding a Pierrot doll over a washtub. This European 3-5/8" across and 3-3/4" high figurine has gold trim and fine handpainting; it is unsigned except for a 2219 (or 2279) and a 49 stamped on the bottom. An attractive 19th century Victorian art glass basket. This unsigned 8-3/4" high quality basket features a ruffled-edge custard glass body with clear cranberry glass edging; the clear naturalistic glass handles resemble crossed branches (one has two spurs). A 19th c. hand painted toleware large tray. This decorative, vintage and stunning handpainted and signed large toleware display or serving tray dates to around 1860. This 24-3/8 x 19-3/4" painted metal tray features a large central basket of colourful and varied flowers; it has a floreate stepped edge and the G. J. Rudolph artist's signature. We have been unable to get any information on this artist, however the painting is superb. This all-original piece has slight and attractive alligatoring, and it is in superb original condition with no scrapes, dents, monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a few small spots of gilding loss around the rim.
