A stunning Nippon 3 pc. hand painted tea set 1880-90. This set consists of the 6-1/4" tall teapot, the 5" high two-handled covered sugar bowl and the 4-1/2" high creamer. The painting is exquisite as you would expect of high quality Nippon, with colourful flowers and copious gold highlights with beading. The ground is a mottled agate and the whole body of the set is covered with decoration. A Chinese export silver 3 piece cruet set with spiders and lizards. This truly unusual and well-made three piece cruet set is in high grade Chinese export silver. Dating to the late 19th-early 20th century, this condiment set has the 2-1/2" high pepper shaker, the 1-1/4" high open salt dish and the 2-1/4" high lidded mustard pot with handle. What makes this set exceptional is the presence of very high relief applied spiders being chased by lizards. The mouths are open on the lizards and the detail is stunning; each piece is on three insect-like legs. Each piece has Chinese silver marks, not a mark I have seen before - but given the unusual use of lizards and bugs, this piece had the look of work by Chinese silversmith Luen Hing. I have not seen this mark attached to any of his known work, so this is merely a speculative opinion. The 3 pc set weighs a total of 115.9 grams, and there is no liner present in the salt dish. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some indenting to two feet on each of the interiors of the mustard and salt pieces, and slight denting on bugs. A pair of so-called Whimsey glass vases c1900. Glass whimseys, or end-of-day glass, were made at the end of the day's glass production by glassmakers using leftover glass; these items were usually taken home and given as gifts. Many forms were produced, including glass canes, figurines and artistic objects. This pair is made of amber and citrene coloured glass with white highlights and ribbon decoration. They are unsigned and the amber vase has a hook so it can be hung on a wall; the other sits on a table. The hanging vase measures 6-7/8" from top to bottom and the yellowish table vase is 4-1/2" from the edge of the trumpet to the edge of the stem. A stunning hand painted Art Nouveau porcelain centerpiece 1890 1900. This true Nouveau table decoration is likely German or Austrian. This 14-1/4" tall and 10-1/4" wide decorative item would look good on the table or on the mantlepiece. Constructed of two pieces, the bowl and base, it has a figure on a column in the center of the lower bowl, which has finely molded openwork flowing handles. All parts of this display piece are fully handpainted, from the finely detailed face to the fine gold highlights. The finish is mostly matte, with the interiors, body of the figure and central panel in a gloss surface. The interiors of the bowls have a lustre finish. The bowl attaches to the base column with a brass cylindrical mount and sleeve, and this ornate piece is unmarked. The condition of this item is remarkable - it has survived completely intact with no wear, losses or any damage whatsoever over the last 110 or so years. This is a classic 8-3/4" x 8-1/2" (top measurement) two-handled heavy brass Chinese censer dating to the late 17th-early 18th century. This censer weighs approximately four kilograms and it has the ornate two character Xuande mark on the bottom, and an interior six character Xuande mark. It is of superb style and quality, and it is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the polishing off of most of the original patina, traces of which remains around the three feet and under the handles. A rare and unusual japanese oil lamp lamplighter`s kit which dates to the 19th century or earlier. This wonderful and old set is in a gold-trimmed and black lacquer over wood 8-1/2" x 4-1/2 inch box, which stands 6-1/4" inches high. There is gold trim inside as well as on the underside of the lid, with some minor wear and loss, and there is a bruised corner on the upper base. The interior has a divided compartment, and the lighting tools are inserted into a recress in the base. The tools include a brass base and fitted platform which snaps tightly into place; the tools include a pouring pot in the shape of a teapot for the oil and a receptacle with a hinged lid as well as long brass tongs in their holding slot. The pourer has a removable lid revealing a bat-shaped cutout; the receptacle has a pricket for a candle, which was used to light the liquid-fuelled lamps. The drawers are long and shallow and they smell of incense, and the finely-hinged handles lift up in order for the drawer to be opened. They are also brass, and painted black. These lamplighting chests were utilized by Japanese lamplighters, and this one is unsigned but of undeniably fine quality and construction. A truly unusual item from the distant past, in remarkable condition. A signed Christopher Dresser Linthorpe pottery plate circa 1880. This superb and rare Linthorpe high relief 8" English pottery plate features a naturalistic branch with leaves with a rustic white/yellow glaze on the front and no glazing on the back. It is stamped LINTHORPE Ch. Dresser HT on the back; Dresser was the designer for this factory c1879-89 and Henry Tooth was the manager prior to 1883, making the date of manufacture 1879-83. An S Kirk and Sons sterling silver repousse nut serving bowl and matching spoon. The 6-1/2" diameter bowl and 5-1/4" long spoon both have the high-relief floral repousse work this quality American silver firm was known for. It is on on the bowl's rim and on the spoon handle and in the bowl, which also has a relief scene of fruit including pineapple, grape, apple and strawberry. The spoon's bowl measures 2" across. Both pieces have a fancy S monogram, and each is stamped S. KIRK & SON STERLING. The pattern number 409 is on the bottom of the bowl. A Posen 800 silver coffee set for 12 in box circa 1905-10. This stunning, all original set is in its original fitted case; this set consists of twelve 3-3/4" coffee spoons with gilt bowls, sugar tongs, and the ornate silver sugar bowl with the original clear glass liner. The box is green paper wrapped with gold borders and gilt shell clasps; the interior is silk lined with the L. Posen Wwe. retail stamp. It has the designation in the stamp Hoflieferant, which translates as suppliers or purveyors to the Imperial Court, which was granted to this firm in 1903. The well-respected German silver firm Lazarus Posen Witwe (widow) was established in 1869, and was in operation until it was destroyed by the Nazis on Kristallnacht in 1938. Each piece is stamped with the Posen marks, and the bowl features an exquisitely detailed gryphon and wreath openwork design; the inrterior is gilded as well. The 4" diameter sugar bowl has a clear crystal liner with a polished pontil, and there is a sugar tongs as well as the 12 spoons. The box measures 13" x 9-1/2", and this stunning quality set is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs and it appears possibly unused. There is only a bit of tearing of the bottom paper, a bit of soiling to the silk on the inside of the lid and some darkening of the gold borders on the exterior.

A finely detailed 11-3/4" tall silverplated epergne stand or base c1880s. This stand features a semi-nude woman stganding on a footed base holding the dish aloft; it is stamped MONARCH SILVER CO. 592 on the bottom. The bottom of the bowl support has a satin finish, and it measures 3-5/8" across the interior, with a 9/16" deep collar for supporting the bowl. A vintage English Edwardian 6-5/8" tall sterling silver hot water pot. This Queen Anne style serving piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906; it has a C.H maker's mark for Charles, Alfred Henry & Francis Herbert Westwood trading as Charles Harrold & Co, 2 and 3 St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. It has an ebony finial with a threaded wingnut mount and it weighs 256 grams. A Gorham silver plated open chafing dish on stand from the 1900 era. This top quality late Victorian era warming dish measures 9-5/8" across and it sits on the ornately designed heavy quality footed stand, which has a large fuel well with a turned handle. It has two mechanical burners - the long thumbwheels open the lids and raise and lower the wicks in the same motion, snuffing the flames. The burners are mounted in a fitted top which sits on the fuel well; they are stamped PAT'D AUG 29.1899. The stand is marked with the GMCo EP anchor mark for Gorham and it has a pattern number 0560, which also appears on the dish. An R.A. Kidston 20" London scene United Kingdom meat platter circa 1840. This is an early Scottish large blue transferware well and tree meat platter in blue transfer. This platter stands on two bracket feet and the juice well; it is stamped R.A.K. & Co. UNITED KINGDOM LONDON for R.A. Kidston and Co. Finnieston (part of Glasgow) Scotland who used this mark from 1838-1845. The Coysh & Henrywood Blue and White Printed Pottery reference book mentions this series, but not this actual scene of London - I have never run across this pattern piece before. It is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some fine overall crazing, a bit of minor bruising to one foot rim (intact with no losses), a 5/8" edge chip and some staining (mostly on the back). This 19th century 12" serving tray features a scalloped edge with modified shell decorations; the engraving has shells, boughs, florals and fruits as well as a complex monogram in the center. A fine hand painted and gold trimmed Dresden factory painted porcelain lidded jam or marmalade pot by Donath & Co. c1900. This 5-1/2" tall serving piece features different floral scenes on each panel between the footed columns and on the lid; it is marked with DRESDEN with the crown mark for Donath & Co. (1893-1916), and it has a gold rose painted over the Thomas maker's name. It also has the retailer's stamp for Ryrie Bros. Ltd. of Toronto (who were bought out by Birks in the 1920s). A pair of English Imari lustre jugs from the 1830s. This decorative unmarked pair of early to mid 19thC English jugs or pitchers is in the Imari colours with pink Sunderland luster. The largest is 8" tall and the smaller is 7"; both have embossed decoration and are hand painted. A wonderful antique decorative pair of oval ornate Victorian period sterling silver bowls or baskets, fully hallmarked London, England 1895-96. These high style late Victorian dishes measure 6-3/4" x 5", and are just over 1" deep. They have high relief repousse Gothic designs and pierce-work panels, and they have a W.R.C. maker's mark for William Richard Corke. There is also a British registry number stamped in the rim of both bowls - it looks like RD. 248864. They are heavier than the usual pierce-work English sterling dishes you normally find from this period - one basket weighs 81 grams, and the other 83 grams - and are a lovely quality pair of dishes. Other than a few minor rim bends, they are overall in excellent vintage condition, with no dents, monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage. It is an open edge, so this is restorable. This unusual and well made hand painted late 19th century porcelain figural whimsey or decorative figure is of a girl holding a Pierrot doll over a washtub. This European 3-5/8" across and 3-3/4" high figurine has gold trim and fine handpainting; it is unsigned except for a 2219 (or 2279) and a 49 stamped on the bottom. This is a 10-1/2" x 8-1/2" ball-footed swing-handle serving basket fully hallmarked for Sheffield, England 1895-6. Made by James Dixon & Sons, this basket has ornate repousse decoration in the bowl as well as attractive design to the ornate handle. It has a presentation inscription in the centre, as it was presented as a gift in September 1896, and it weighs an impressive 595 grams. This antique matched pair of 2 gravy or sauce servers measure 7" from the lip to the edge of the handle and they stand 3-3/4" tall to the handle's top; they have the maker's mark for Martin Hall & Co. Ltd. They weigh 343 grams and have a Celtic design G or G monogram. The feet are a simple trefoil shape. They have a liquid capacity of approximately eight to nine ounces in each gravy boat. A fine 19th century 6-1/2" Stourbridge-style milk glass vase with amber glass applied leaves and feet plus red cherries.
