| A scarce 5-3/8 x 3-3/4" enamelled metal and cedar lined cigarette box from the Canadian Pacific liner SS Duchess of York. Built in 1928, she was converted to a troop ship in 1940, and in 1943 she was set on fire by an air attack off Morocco; she was torpedoed and sunk the following day. This c1930 box has a Deco design on the lid and bright red enamelling. This tobacco accessory is in fair original condition with the following condition notes: the hinge is slightly bent outwards (the top doesn't seal firmly), the cedar from the lid is missing (the clips remain), there is some minor denting and wear on the lid, the enamel is worn from the seams and is 90% intact on the sides and 1/3 missing on the bottom and there are some stains and marks on the cedar. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use.
