| A large multi-coloured round covered Mi'kmaq (Micmac) ash splint, rope and sweetgrass basket c1940. This 9-1/4" across and approximately 6 1/2" high three footed basket retains much of its original colouration (some slight fading from age), including red, yellow, orange and blue, which are still visible in their original intense colours inside of the basket. The weave is a complex one, with sweetgrass woven with splint and a rose coloured rope also woven into the design. It is in very good and original condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than the mentioned minor fading of the external colours and a few small splits in the splints on the lid (roping intact, but slightly out of alignment).
