| A wild Art Deco vintage bakelite belt buckle with an applied gilt brass snake on both pieces c1920s. This buckle measures 4-1/4" (both pieces joined) by 2-1/4" wide (largest piece); the bakelite on the large piece is black patinated over apple juice bakelite with a thin central opaque cream coloured layer - there is a little wear to the black finish where the buckle hooks, and it is just barely visible there. The small piece is opaque cream with black and gold patination. The highly detailed snakes have wonderful detail and patina, and this unusual unsigned buckle has the typical fine patina of scratches from wear as would be expected, but is overall in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, corrosion, repairs or damage.
