A Georgian sterling silver large footed master salt dish dated 1817. This simply splendid high quality English Georgian silver open salt dish is fully hallmarked for London 1817. This 3-5/8" diameter and 1-7/8" high bowl has fine high relief and rather unusual rim decoration of a lion head alternating with a shell, surrounded by flowers, with ornate floral feet. It retains the original gilding on the bowl as well. It is stamped with the maker's mark for William Elliot or William Eaton of London. It weighs an impressive 162.6 grams. It has a small lion rampant family crest engraving on one shoulder (not shown). One of the largest and most unusual Georgian silver open salts we have seen. It is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs; All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use.
