A vintage cotton-backed 83 x 19" Chinese embroidered silk bed hanging decoration c1880-1900. This beautiful fringed hanging has wonderful embroidery, including gold and multi-colour silk thread depicting flowers, butterflies, fish, people and many other symbolic figures and images. It is mounted on a powder pink cotton backing and it has a fine 7" fringe and edge netting. There appear to be some Chinese symbols or a signature and an initial on a cotton corner. It has sewn red loops on the back of the fringe edge for the suspension of some article(s) and the top has a sewn fold for hanging much like a curtain-on-rod. This item is in excellent original condition with no rips, tears, fading, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor soiling to the cotton backing and some traces of thumbtacks from previous hangings. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use.
