A group of three 11" x 8-1/2" hardbound yearbooks of The Iris, published by the Iris Association of the University of Buffalo, New York. This set comprises Volumes 7, 8 and 10 (1904, 1905 and 1907 respectively), and each has staff and student photos, illustrations, drawings, writings, poetry and lists along with pages of fascinating period advertisements. Volume 7 has a green cloth and part leather binding with a laid in Nouveau woman illustration, Volume 8 has gold stamping and an Art Nouveau floral and ribbon illustration and Volume 10 has a leather and cloth gold-stamped cover. Condition: 1904 - minor water spotting to cover at corner, spine bruising, worn gold stamping, unblemished and intact pages, no losses, inscriptions or defacements; 1905 - water damage to open edge of cover, minor spine bruising and small corner bumps with edge tear, detached frontispiece, water stains on pages at cover damage site; 1907 - corner bumps, spine bruising, minor colour loss to lower right covers, minor cover soiling, unblemished and intact pages, no losses, inscriptions or defacements. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. An early c1899 undated edition of "The Children of the New Forest" by Captain Marryat. This 7-1/2 x 5-1/4" book has 256 pages, green embossed and coloured covers with Art Nouveau style illustrations, gold title stamping on the spine and a black and white frontispiece illustration. From the Famous Books series, this undated copy was published by Blackie and Son (Dublin & Glasgow). It has a pasted-in St. Mark's National School Cheetham Hill presentation document dated Dec. 1900, and this early edition is in excellent original condition with no losses, tears, creases, foxing or staining, damage or repairs; it is in superb condition with only very slight colour fading to the spine, some slight page yellowing, and some minor bruising to the spine's top and bottom. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. A two volume set of books by Rev. John Adams, A.M. entitled "The Flowers of Ancient History; Comprehending On A New Plan, The Most Remarkable And Interesting Events, As Well As Characters, of Antiquity. Designed for the Improvement and Entertainment of Youth", published in London, England by J. Thomson, Holborn in 1804. The books measure 6-1/2" x 4-1/4", and the two book set consists of Volume 1 (291 pages, split but attached leather-bound front cover, mostly detached back cover, very slight corner bumps and edge wear to cover, remnants of library sticker on spine, early book store sticker inside front cover, some foxing and spotting, no tears, creases, folds or losses) and Vol. 2 (309 pages, minor splitting and wear to leather covers, binding tight and intact, minor sporadic spotting and foxing, no folds, tears, losses or damage). A scarce 1770 leather-bound copy of "The World Volume The Third A New Edition" by Adam Fitz-adam (a pseudonym of Edward Moore (1712-57). This 7" x 4-1/4" book has 360 pages plus an extensive index and an embossed gold-trimmed leather-bound hard cover. It was printed by Alexander Donaldson, and it is in very good condition with the following: loss of 3/4" of the spine leather, minor bruising and wear at corners and moderate spine wear, minor sporadic spotting mostly on the edges of the paper. No folds, tears, or losses to pages, two early inked names, tight and intact binding. A nice survivor in very good condition. We also have volume 1 available. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use.
