$85

A great and unusual 1920s-30s brass key ring with a double stanhope viewer in the form of a pair of binoculars. Stanhopes were a Victorian optical amusement consisting of (sometimes naughty) miniature photographic views behind magnifying lenses, artfully hidden in everyday objects. In this case it is in a pair of leather and brass miniature 1-1/4" x 7/8" binoculars, mounted on a leather and brass 3-1/8" key ring in the form of a belt buckle. The fittings on the binoculars are threaded and finely detailed (the lenses and photos can be easily removed when the caps are unscrewed); the views include two different black and white photographic views of Toronto - a skyline ("Toronto The Queen City") and a view of the railway roundhouse. The keyring is stamped MADE IN ITALY, and this optical curiosity is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $6 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
