$45

A scarce 5-3/8 x 3-3/4" enamelled metal and cedar lined cigarette box from the Canadian Pacific liner SS Duchess of York. Built in 1928, she was converted to a troop ship in 1940, and in 1943 she was set on fire by an air attack off Morocco; she was torpedoed and sunk the following day. This c1930 box has a Deco design on the lid and bright red enamelling. This tobacco accessory is in fair original condition with the following condition notes: the hinge is slightly bent outwards (the top doesn't seal firmly), the cedar from the lid is missing (the clips remain), there is some minor denting and wear on the lid, the enamel is worn from the seams and is 90% intact on the sides and 1/3 missing on the bottom and there are some stains and marks on the cedar. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $8 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card; items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.

$59

An unusual small round mirrored compact or rouge pot with the shield insignia of the HMS Nelson, the British warship launched in 1925. The Nelson, named after the naval hero, was launched in 1925 as the home fleet flagship, and it was decommissioned in 1948 and scrapped in 1949. This gilt brass 1-5/8" diameter box has an applied crest with enamelling, and it has engine turning on both sides. It has an interior mirror, and it would make a great pillbox. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, scrapes, dents, monograms, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $6 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card; items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
