A framed 1920s vintage copper plate etching by George Huardel-Bly (1872-19??) of France. The etching depicts a (probably) Parisian church (there is a pasted notation on the back paper lining which is too faded to make out), and the image size is 9-3/8 x 4". The etching has a fancy signature below the image, and the frame size is 13-7/8 x 7-3/4". This item is in excellent condition with no losses, tears, foxing, fading, damage or repairs other than a few light spots below the image (the paper is a mellowed tan colour) and a few spots of wear to the original frame. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. A scarce and vintage dry point etching depicting Lock Number 6 of the Welland Canal, by F.W. Jopling CPE (1860-1945). Frederic Jopling studied at the OSA in Toronto and at the ASL in New York City. His work is in the National Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario and many other galleries in Canada, the United States and England as well as many private collections. Frederic Jopling is listed in the Dictionary of Canadian Artists and also in Who was Who in American Art. This example measures 10" x 5-3/4" (image size), and the print size is 11-1/2" x 7-1/2" with am impression size of 10-1/4" x 6". It is in a contemporary oak frame and it is signed F. JOPLING 1928 Lock No6 in pencil. This item is in excellent condition with no losses, foxing, fading, discolouration, damage or repairs other than a tear and crease on the lower left outside of the impression, a tear just to the edge of the image to the right of the signature, and a small spot of soiling at the top of the page. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. An 8-3/4 x 6-5/8" numbered, limited closed edition engraving probably of Angers Cathedral by the German engraver Karl (Carl) Max Schultheiss (1885-1961). Starting out in Germany, he moved to the U.S. in the 1930s, where he had a 1938 exhibition of his etchings at the Art Institute of Chicago. This etching, in the original 16-1/4" x 16-1/4" black painted wood frame with original mat is signed on the right lower corner; it has a 98/350 number in pencil, and it has an embossed WOLGEMUTH & LISSNER BERLIN printer's mark. It would have had the original T. Eaton Co. inventory sticker and a label stating: "ORIGINAL ETCHING bearing the artists signature. This proof has been printed by hand from the original copper plate, etched by the artist and is published in a short limited edition, the plate ultimately being destroyed. Published by Wohlgemuth & Lissner, Berlin" as found on our other contemporary Schultheiss etching. This art etching is in excellent original condition with no tears, foxing, holes, fading, losses, damage or repairs, however the backing paper and stickers are absent on this example. An attractive 11-3/4" x 5-3/4" (plate size) etching by Charles Herbert Clark (England, b. 1890), depicting John Knox's House in Edinburgh, Scotland. Signed Chas. H. Clark in pencil in the lower right hand corner. Clark studied in the Liverpool School of Art and exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery. He resided in Liverpool, and his work was also exhibited at the Royal Academy. This framed etching is one of a limited (restricted) edition of 156 proofs. The original tag is applied to the back (the etching has been reframed in a 19" x 20-1/2" black painted wood frame, and the tag says: John Knox's House Edinburgh. An original etching by Chas. Clark. A fine quality late 18th century copper plate etching by Francesco Londonio (1723-1783) of Milan, Italy. This Georgian period etching is from the Costumes Pastoris (Pastoral Customs or more commonly, Pastoral Scenes ) series. Image size (taken from the plate indentation lines) is 36 cm. x 27 cm. (14-1/4" x 11"). This series was produced for Consigliere Mellerio. This item is in the collection of the National Digital Library in Portugal, and a collection of Londonio's etchings resides at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco (F.A.M.S.F.), amongst others, and there are some etchings from this specific series in the F.A.M.S.F. collection. The F.A.M.S.F. dates this series to the 18th century. It has an 8 in the lower right corner, indicating that this is plate 8 in the series. It is housed in a later 19th century black finished wood frame measuring 21-5/8" x 18-1/2", and it is in very good original condition with no cracks, tears, repairs, losses, damage or repairs other than some very fine overall speckled foxing and a central crease.
