An exquisite and original Victorian watercolour botanical study in its original mahogany frame c1860-70. This oval section of the painting measures 9" x 7", and it is a watercolour painting of a moss rose. It has a double mat (possibly original), and the 17" x 15" reeded edge frame has the original patterned gilded interior frame and it has the original 19thC glass. It is unsigned but of lovely quality, and the watercolour is in excellent original condition with no rips, scrapes, fading, foxing, stains, losses, damage or repairs other some slight darkening of the paper. There is an irregular look of the finish in each corner of the frame, which most likely was from someone removing some corner decorative pieces to the frame (leaving a slight roughness to the surface at each corner) and some browning to the mat, which has a pale olive green colour unlike our photographs. There is also a long sliver chip to the frame, visible to the left side of the bottom of the frame. Please note the light reflections in the closeup - these are not creases in the paper, but only a reflection of the photography. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. starts at $22 (securely packed, other spots may vary, can be shipped without glass) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. NOTE: we do not accept PayPal.

A late Victorian period unsigned framed watercolour on paper depicting a child. This piece of early memorial folk art was possibly made by a family member as a reminder of a deceased child, with typical muted colours and austere pose. This Victorian memorial picture is a lovingly made piece, with a hand-cut deep red velvet mat, a gilt paper mount from a photo-album page and a black and gilt frame with applied coptic-style crosses in each corner. The image measures 5-1/2" x 4" (sight size), the frame is 14 x 12", and it has a unique back closure - a cut wood ruler screwed to the frame with brass screws (later addition, and removeable). It retains its original black backing paper and glass, and this unsigned piece of Victorian folk art is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping (securely packaged) to the continental U.S. starts at $16 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.

A lovely early 20th century scenic watercolour painting by the listed British artist Edwin St. John (1878-1961). This painting measures 20-3/4" x 14-1/4" and it depicts a wonderful panoramic hillside view overlooking Lake Lugano in Italy with a town in the background ("Scene of Lake Lugano" hand written in pencil on back). Mountains rise up on the horizon under a partly cloudy sky, and the detail, lighting and composition are all top-notch, with vivid colours in front and atmospheric detail as the distance recedes. This painting is being sold unmatted and unframed; it is currently on foam-core with temporary mounts and it will be properly and securely packed for shipping. This item is in very good original condition with no scrapes, tears, fading, losses, damage or repairs other than the following: there is some soiling/foxing to the white clouds, there are a couple of shallow paper blisters near the top (shown sidelit in the last image) and a very slight touch of rubbing and a small corner bump along the lower edge from a previous mat. A beautiful painting ready for conservation and framing. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping is $22 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card; credit card items will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
