$1500

A lovely hand made studio 14k gold brooch in the design of a dragon. This dragon is a gemmy creature, with a back set with diamonds at the high points, and a pink sapphire eye. He is curved around a lovely piece of jadite, and in his jaws is the largest diamond, from which curling plumes of gold flames or smoke are emanating. The brooch is designed so it may also be worn as a pendant. It weighs 27.1 grams, and the 10 diamonds are a mix of European cut and modern cut measures 1 to 2.5 points each, and they are all old European cut. The large diamond measures 25 points (by gauge in setting) and is a round brilliant cut (VS-1 clarity G colour). All of the diamonds are very clear and with good white colour, no damage or carbon spots. The ruby is an oval cut, approximately 3-4 points. The jadite measures 13mm x 10mm (although the bezel setting is larger, so the stone may be also). The brooch measures 2 1/8" x 2 1/16", and it has a current independent gemmologist's appraisal for $4200 CAD. The only marks (delicately scratched in the back) are Nancy Meek and 14K. Nancy Meek Pocock was a Canadian silversmith and jewelry artisan, and was a well respected founding member and director of the Ontario Metal Arts Guild in the 1940s. She was working in Toronto (after a year studying in Paris) from the 1930s until 1970. Her pieces have a flowing organic style. It is in excellent condition - no damage or repairs. Shipping is registered insured or Fedex, and all of our prices are in $US.
