A scarce World War I era 60" patinated metal and amethyst cut glass watch or fan chain c1915. Unsigned but probably English, it was common for jewellery at this time to be blackened or patinated so as to avoid flashing and glinting, which could have been seen by the enemy fliers at night. This necklace has a large spring-ring catch and swivel, and the chain has oblong loops. This silver plated on brass 16-3/4" necklace features three shield-shaped drops (largest 2 x 1-1/2") with openwork and applied flowers; the claw-set glass stones include blue Murano, goldstone and Peking glass, with faux pearls and marcasites.
