A Scottish sterling silver banded agate sword and shield brooch pin dated 1863. Although a common form this example is one of the most ornate and best constructed we have seen. It measures 2-3/4 x 1", the silver is deeply and intricately tooled and the cut and polished banded agates are well matched and are gray (or grey), white and blue striped. The shield is mounted by wire pins through loops on the sword back and most unusual is a hand-etched British hallmark shield with the letter and number cyphers indicating a manufacturing date of Dec. 6, 1863. This item is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a bend to the C from the original c-clasp (easily straightened). A great brooch for your next Scottish wedding. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. A scarce Victorian era sterling silver matching pair of engraved link bracelets, both with matching British patent registry diamond shape marks and dated 1881. These antique silver bracelets measure 6-3/4" long and 1" wide; both have safety chains ans snap catches. These antique English silver bracelets have thick hollow tubes linking two outer bands of oval links with fine engraving, and a central smooth row of links. They are quite hard find in the original matched pairs now. Silver jewellery was the jewellery of choice for 19thC women who had some means or who worked. It was affordable, but was not considered as showy as gold, more appropriate for the serious minded. These bracelets were often worn with the wonderful Victorian lockets with the same type of ornate chain. The bracelets are actually scarcer now than the lockets. This pair is in very good original condition with no scrapes, monograms, bends, corrosion or losses. Each bracelet has some very minor and small shallow denting on some links and some minor denting to a few of the tubes on the outer edges; one has a professionally repaired clasp and both have had a few hollow tubes soldered to the next links for stability (not affecting the wearing of the bracelets), but they show well and look great on. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $30 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. It has a full set of Birmingham, England silver hallmarks on the undecorated side corresponding to the year 1884, and it has an I.H maker's mark. This necklace weighs 53.4 grams, and it is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses or damage except for some fine denting on the plain back, tool marks from the flattening of some dents and some identifying symbols on the interior. An antique Art Nouveau period Scottish sterling silver two piece belt buckle, depicting the Green Man, a well known creature from ancient United Kingdom mythology. He is associated with birth and re-birth, and the coming of spring. Wide silver buckles of this size - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8" - in solid silver, silver plate or gold were often presented to a young graduate nurses by their families or by consultants at the hospital they were then working as graduate nurses, as their badge was the wide black belt of their nursing uniform. One of my nurse friends who trained in the UK says this practice was still usual into the 1950s. This buckle is fully hallmarked for Glasgow, Scotland 1897-8 and it has the maker's mark for (possibly) James Forest. It weighs 47.8 grams, and this late Victorian period vintage beauty is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs.
