A small and fine vintage 19th century Japanese green lacquer box. This lobed shape 2-1/8" x 1-3/4" box has a nice olive-green exterior with handpainted irises with gold highlights; it is unsigned and the interior is black. This item is in very good original condition with no chips, cracks, scrapes, losses, damage or repairs other than a scrape on the lid's rear edge (1/8"), a flake and small loss on the left-hand edge of the top, two small edge flakes on the lower edge of the lid and one small flake on the edge on the bottom. There appears to be a water spot on the top, but we haven't attempted to clean it. All flaws are quite small and this box is in very fine condition. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use.
