A rare and wonderful find. This is a matching set of six 8-3/4" Chinese porcelain blue and white plates from the late Kangxi period (1662-1722). These Kang Hsi plates have a beautiful panelled decoration with blossoms and flowers, with a cricket on all but one. The porcelain is quite fine and it has the expected glaze dimples and the occasional bit of frit. Each has a design on the underside of the rim and each has an unusual circled lotus flower mark on the base of the plate. This scarce matching set of six is in very good original condition with the following condition notes: one is excellent without damage, one two tiny rim abrasions and one edge flake (1/8"), one hairline crack from rim to edge of center and two small edge flakes, one moderate foot-rim chips, one 1/8" rim chip and light footrim chips, one very slight foot-rim chips. There is no staining or crazing, and each has very, very slight cutmarks not affecting the design. Surface shipping starts at $25 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. NOTE: we DO NOT accept PayPal.

An attractive Japanese Meiji period silver 5-1/2" x 3-1/2" picture frame c1880-1900. This frame has a bamboo pattern with a patterned ground; it has a textured snakeskin styled backing that originally had a support foot for standing up the frame (now missing and replaced with a wire and eyelets). The frame is mounted with copper round-head nails; it retains the original patterned backing paper and glass window. It is unmarked, as was often the case with older Japanese silver, but tests as very high grade silver. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the loss of the foot rest and slight bending at the lower right hand corner (very minor). All
items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. starts at $6 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. NOTE: we do not accept PayPal.

$195 pair

A great pair of rectangular glass 1920s gentleman's after-shave or cologne and talc bottles with Chinese hand made and enamelled brass caps and bases. The bottles (which were made in the US) are clear glass with ribbed shoulders and they are marked U.S.A. 4 J.B.W. Co. 9 5 OZ. 2 and they measure 3" x 1-3/4" and they stand 4-1/4" tall. The fitted removable pierced brass bases have lovely enamelling over brass flowers and plants, in pleasing shades of purple, green, blue and aqua. The lids are similarly enamelled. The lids don't have liners and may have had cork, and the bottles have a small opening for dispensing a splash of after-shave or talc. They are unsigned, and they are even engraved on the bottom. They were owned by an American officer who served in China in the 1920s. This great pair is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, dents, corrosion or damage other than some slight losses and minor cracking to areas of the enamel (slight, and apparent only under close observation), and the loss of most of the original gilding which was over the brass. Shipping starts at $8 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $100 if paid with a credit card. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. A charming late 19th century Japanese pebble finish glaze hand painted teapot with the original interior tea strainer. This teapot measures 8-3/8" across the spout and handle and it stands 5-1/2" high and it has a beige-tan coloured background with a glaze that looks like the rind of an orange or a tiny all-over pebble glaze (have also heard this referred to as sharkskin glaze) . The glaze does not cover the two panels (one on each side) with a white background with painted floral scenes in cobalt blue, purple, red, pink, orange and green. There are also dark red and blue flowers painted in various spots around the teapot, as well as additional green leaves. This teapot retains its original interior china strainer and it is signed on the bottom. The bottom of the teapot and a small amount near the bottom is unglazed. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, crazing, staining, repairs or damage other than some losses to the gold trim on the top rim and spout and a bit of gold rubbing on the floral panels and there is minor chipping on the strainer rim. There is a minute pin hole sized spot on the tip of the spout that is missing glaze and some variations on the thickness of the tan pebble glaze, including a spot on the handle - looks like a small finger spot where the glaze was not applied - but this is original to the making of this piece. Surface shipping starts at $15 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
