This item is in excellent original condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some slight soiling and some minor rubs and frays at the corners. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. $395

A Qianlong period Chinese porcelain covered ginger jar c1750 in the Famille Rose palette, later converted into a table lamp. This jar measures 7-5/8" high (from bottom to top of cover). It has a 1-1/2" tall slightly oversize carved wood base, and the lamp measures 19-1/2" in total, and it has a 1920s painted wood finial and harp with c1950s wiring and fittings. The lid has been drilled as has the base (causing a small tight star crack around the hole). This unsigned jar has fine, subtle enamel colours and fine detail, and it is in excellent condition with no chips, crazing, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the fitting for use as a lamp. Someone used a sharp pin or something similar to scratch the word China in the base over the glaze (difficult to photograph) - this was done unfortunately even with antique china when it was imported into Canada originally. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. starts at $19 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. NOTE: we do not accept PayPal.

$125

A slightly macabre but wonderfully Victorian ensemble of remembrance items from the Sherk family of Welland County, Ontario. This c1890 grouping consists of two shadowboxes containing curls of hair with ribbon bows in plaster and wood frames (16 x 11-3/4" and 13 x 10-3/4" (3-3/4" and 3-1/4" deep respectively), a 7" x 5" cabinet card with a 3-3/4 x 2-5/8" mounted photograph of the two girls and a hand-cut and hand-engraved sterling silver unmarked JESSIE name pin (tested). The smaller shadow box has lace as well as ribbon, and the photo card is from CHAS B. WILLSON WELLAND, ONT. This set is in very good original condition except for: fading to the originally pink ribbons, 1/3 losses to the frame plaster (restorable), missing pin from the brooch (easily replaced), intact but crumbling backing paper on the largest frame (the smallest has no backing paper). All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $20 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.

$235

A superb quality 4-3/8" across Sorrento ware wood inlay trinket or jewellery box from the mid to late 19th century. This box stands 1-3/4" high and it has wonderful colour and workmanship. The sides feature red banding and a Greek key design in green, yellow and black with a brown ground. The top is the highlight, with literally thousands of individually placed fruitwood tesserae in a needlepoint-style flower and leaf panel decoration - the effect isquite similar to a carpet; the colours are bright and unfaded and the fine workmanship is remarkable. The interior of the box is olive wood. The condition of this unsigned, brass-hinged box is very good indeed for a box of its age and type, with only some very small barely noticeable losses and craquelure to the finish. There is a small loss along the edge of one corner panel, some minor lid warping to the hinge and front edge leaving small gaps, a thin crack and small corner losses to one lower red band on one side panel and the possible replacement of one half of one hinge with a non-brass one. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $7.50 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Expresspost-air post and Fedex are available for faster shipping options - please email with your zip code or postal code for the rates. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.

$165

An unusual 19th century low-form milk glass oil lamp with high relief flowers and spiderwebs. This unmarked lamp stands 7-1/8" high (to the brass collar only, sans socket) and 8-1/2" across; it sits on four protuberant feet. We haven't been able to identify the maker or pattern, and this great piece is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. It has been converted to electricity, however the fittings are wired through the bottom of the socket and there has been no drilling or damage in the conversion, which can easily be reverted to oil with the proper lamp fitments. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted. Uninsured surface shipping starts at $14 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $100 if paid with a credit card. We do ship internationally. $275

A scarce and unusual Royalty item! This is one we haven't seen before, in 27 years of selling Royalty commemoratives. This is a 2-5/16" diameter two piece early thermoplastic composition (similar to the early daguerrotype cases) covered box - probably a snuff box - issued to commemorate the wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840. It has a domed yellowish celluloid/plastic protective cover (a replacement, of much more recent origin, probably 1920 or 1930 - it was undoubtedly a glass dome originally) that has been cut to sit within the brass retaining bezel in the lid or cover. This was to protect the gilt metal or composition cameo medallion of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert that is mounted in the centre of the cover, with the legend VICTORIA AND ALBERT MARRIED 10. FEB. 1840. The bottom has a nice typical 19th century geometric impressed design. The interior is unlined, and this unusual souvenir piece is in excellent condition, with no repairs or damage other than the replaced protective glass; it remains in superb original condition for its 164 years of age with only some very minor soiling on the bottom (possibly removeable), and some dust under the glass (we haven't removed it). A rare addition to your collection. Surface shipping starts at $6 (to the US, other spots may vary) insured is higher and insurance is required on items paid by credit card over $85 in value. We ship internationally, and all prices are in $US.

$48

An unusual Victorian plush covered handkerchief box c1880 with an applied glass disk with a photograph. The box measures 8" across and 1-7/8" deep; it is covered by a yellow/green plush or velvet with a pressed paper bottom. The interior is lined with embossed lizardskin paper in a light green colour. The photograph is a contemporary print of an English scene photograph (fine dots visible under magnification); the photo/print is mounted on to the underside of a 6" glass circle with a gold edge. This dresser box is is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, corrosion, repairs or damage other than some wear to the nap of the plush exterior showing the base of the material in some spots, some fading of the green plush, a small loss and rubbing to the bottom paper, and some pencil marks and hinge split on the interior paper. Shipping is $5 to the US, insured is higher. We ship internationally, and all prices are in $US.

$275

An unusual late Georgian period rolled gold plate mourning frame with a plaited hair insert and daguerrotype of a gentleman. This is a large engine turned oval frame c1820-40, with an oval glass insert section on the back, containing a lock of plaited and waxed hair. The front of the frame contains a large Daguerrotype (negative/positive image on polished silver) of a gentleman that is slightly more recent than the frame, dating to around 1850s-1860, by his style of clothing. The workmanship on this 2-5/8" x 2-1/8" ornate frame (measurement doesn't include hanging loop) is superb, both in execution and in detail. The hair insert is original, with its original glass and bezel and the daguerrotype itself is in good condition with some haloing on the edges and minor spotting on the man's cheek. This attractive frame has ornate deeply carved engraving around the frame edge and around the back hair insert section. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or damage other than a recent repair to the suspension loop which was broken off and reattached, and there is some minor wear on the back of the frame. trackable surface shipping starts at $12.50 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. Please note that we do not accept Paypal.
