A nicely embossed pair of sterling silver open salt dishes with salt spoons by Gorham. These 2" diameter open salts feature floral embossing and scalloped rims; they are stamped with the lion/anchor/G Gorham mark, STERLING, 2235 (pattern number) with the 1889 year mark. The 2-1/8" matching salt spoons also have the Gorham mark with STERLING. This set of two salts and two spoons weighs 40.4 grams, and it is in excellent original condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. Chawner (registered 1808), this spoon weighs 142 grams, it has a family crest with a unicorn and the phrase "ORA ET LABORA" ("Pray and Work", the motto of St. Benedict). A very rare American coin silver 10-1/4" cake saw (cake knife) in the Medallion of Dionysus pattern, introduced in 1863 by Hotchkiss & Schreuder of Syracuse, New York (1864-1871+). Later re-issued in sterling silver (1867), this rare serving piece has the early H&S mark; the hand engraving and stippling is stunning, as is the thickness of the knife and the clarity of the design. This unusual piece weighs an impressive 95 grams (3 ounces), it has a Gothic MR monogram, and it is in excellent original condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A Victorian sterling silver engraved pepperette or spice shaker by the famous makers Roberts & Briggs, fully hallmarked for London, England 1861. This 3-7/8" tall shaker has a pierced domed lid with finial and a bulbous body with the fine engraving typical of Roberts and Briggs, it is hallmarked on both pieces and it weighs 50 grams. It has a floral decoration in one cartouche and a rising phoenix engraved in the other; the bottom has an 1137 pattern number and a hand etched JC/M891 number on the bottom. This item is in very good original condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than three shallow dents on the girdle (easily repaired, and the largest shows some tarnish at the base of the dent, which is not a split).
